I couldn't get over it. I sat there and bawled for 30 minutes afterwards. I thought about it for days after. & you have to be careful how you talk about it with people because you don't want to ruin it for them if they haven't seen it. & yet you want to say, you know, that last scene where Claire is.... |
It could be the first TV show where death, real death--not serial murders and such--is treated seriously as the main theme. No?
|
probabily, i love claire, she is like my hero/idol or something, im studying photography too, and i guess through watching that i looked up to her. i loved brenda too.
did you know that the actress who played Melissa, brenda's prostitute friend, died in 2003? |
oz was better than all of them.

In an odd way, Claire is my hero/idol, too. I admire her for many things--her rebellious nature, her creativity, among them--and as well she has a certain inherent naivete that is endearing. |

She looks so lost and scared.
Claire is an honorary member of the super kool girls club, I hope? Totals the gas-guzzling hearse and then acquires the environmentally-cool hybrid. There's an example of endings/beginnings that I missed the first time. |
Quote:
she sure is!, you can be an Honorary member if you want too!, since your not a girl. its just me and Ploesj at the moment, i think im gonna make EMMAh a member too. |

I'm flattered, and most honored, to be included in such great company! Yes, thank you. |
i don;t have cable.
I have watched a few sopranos. it's a fucking soap opera disguised as mob stuff so guys will watch it. I have not seen nip tuck. I have seen two eposidoes of six feet under and it iis another boring ass soap opera. |
Quote:
true man, true, ha ha, the sopranos is a soap opera, but it's fun-- and i don't have cable either-- or even tv reception, but i rented the dvds. if you rent dvds, though, try checking out "the wire". soap opera? maybe. but my favorite angle is the fucking corruption and how people who run the world are such incompetent, self-preserving assholes. |

Ooh, Robbb.... (in Mary Tyler Moore as Laura Petri voice). |
South Park, Boston Legal, Lost
|
I like the Dick Van Dyke show, too. When I was a kid, I thought that's what grown ups did when they went to work--ordered sandwiches and coffee and sat around making up jokes while grumbling about their boss. Turns out, I wasn't too far off the mark.
|
People don't be fucking spoilers. Other countries get the shows later than you Americans, REMEMBER!
I read people saying "I don't have cable". So? I have cable but I rarely watch it. I watch all these shows on free to air tv and then usually buy them when they're cheap on dvd. |
none of the shows on this poll are on regular television.
My favorites are CHEERS - I can watch any episode at any time and love it and it makes me feel good and it makes me laugh and it rules. CSI - this season has been very dull, which is due to the Hollywood writer's strike. CSI is ussually the best written show, no fluff, no extraneous bullshit, no easy answers and obvious ploys. this season is no good. KING OF THE HILL - consistently hilarious to me. this show is morre about real people and real situations and real life than niptuck, sopranos, or six feet under will ever be. Scientific American Frontiers - I loved it when it had Alan ALDA AS host. NOVA FRONTLINE and my favorite which is no longer in existance, MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL. the cable bullshit makes me sick! |

Here they're on both. |
you so lucky.

Hahah I would love that. |
One of our first orders of club business should be a retrospective of Claire Fisher's artwork.

I liked Claire in the first season or so, but then she just irritated me. She's the one out of the bunch who you can tell is acting.
REMEMBER DONT BE SPOILERS! The sixth season hasn't been on here yet. |
I think you'll change your mind when you watch the sixth season.
|
I think she's perfect for the role, but it's certain things she does with her eyes and stuff, it's like she's practiced certain shit infront of the mirror and she thinks it looks cool or sexy, then does it on camera. I can tell she's acting, and I don't like that. But she's perfect as Claire.
|
I voted Nip/Tuck and seem to be the onyl one who has. Not because I liek it more than Six Feet Under, but because the 3rd season just came on tele here and I loved that show first. Such a great fucking show.

Well, in a way, the character Claire is acting, because she's trying to find herself. She's always trying on new roles, so what you may be noticing is simply something very in character. |
No, it's not that. It's facial expressions that seemed forced etc. You notice it alot in drama schools etc and in plays. It's alittle over acting. I think Nate is a great actor.
|
oh and i almost forgot! twin peaks!! fuck yeah.. the kingdom (lars von trier) anyone?

You'll probably hate nip/tuck. Its more of a soap opera than six feet under and sopranos combined, in my opinion. |
I don't consider any of them soap-operas.

can i be a member? |

I consider Nip/Tuck a soap-opera with writers who don't repeat everything and anything thats ever been done before. |
I don't consider it a soap-opera. Soap-operas are given that title purely for the cheese and cliche factor.
|
soap operas are just hour long shows dealing with the endless sequences of personal interactions/betrayals/commitments/etc., ussually about rich people since rich people are the only ones with the leisure time to complicate their lives in such manners over and over again for our viewing pleasure.
some dramas are procedurals (CSI, LAW & ORDER) which just detail week in and week out the sequence of events that people go through to solve a case, or cure a duisease, or try a criminal in court. some dramas are escapist action (Miami Vice and stupid shit like that) some dramas are morality plays, where the main point of each episode is the internal struggle of a character or several charatcers to make a decision which is a diffcult one. (all the star trek stuff, House, ER) some dramas are purely about the interpersonal relationships and endless twists and turns of those relationships. that is what soap operas are all about (dynasty, sopranos, dallas, melrose place, the OC, etc.) |
rob you just explained yr 11 media in one post

Anyone watch the season finale of "Nip/Tuck" last night? What did everyone think of that "Magnolia" moment when the cast was singing? Season 4 was very uneven, it had some very good episodes and others were just ho-hum. The first two seasons of "Nip/Tuck" are classic. Third should have been great but it ended uneven as well. I'd hope that season five brings its focus back, some of the season 4 episodes I thought stood up to any from the first season, and some were just okay.
|
No, not everyone has. Season 3 has just started here.
|
I like that South Park show.
I'm gong to get high now. (popeye theme music) Oh man, I'm so high right now that everything is looking fuzzy. Oh man. |
Quote:
Nate's good! And David's boyfriend is also really with it. I really want to get back into 6 feet under again, I only watched one episode recently and it was 2 seasons ahead of where I am. |
oh, this is closed already. i would have voted for sopranos.

Yup, The Wire is just incredible. Finished season 1 DVDs a few weeks ago. Getting a lend of Season 2 over christmas, season 3 I saw on TV last year. It flows and unfolds in such an unassuming, natural way, but it just grabs you by the balls until you end up watching half a series in 1 day. The way the corruption just seeps into everything, and everyone just wades through it like its nothing. Why the fuck wasn't it in the poll? Sopranos is great, loved Deadwood too. Liked Six Feet Under for the first series or so but it just got so emotionally overloaded it started to wreck my head. Nip Tuck is utter shite, but funny sometimes. |
