ravaged queen had the benefit of working at a record store. gmku has prob been searching through shelves and bins for the better part of his life. i vote gmku.

gmku 12.13.2006 01:03 PM

Thank you. Yes, my collection has humble beginnings. My first record came from a lowly bin in an old Woolworth's store in Vinton, Iowa. I scraped together 4 dollars from my pittance of an allowance and meager pay from mowing lawns to buy Sgt. Pepper's. I shoveled sidewalks and driveways to pay for All Things Must Pass, and begged my parents, poor struggling teacher and store clerk that they were, to put Let It Be and Abbey Road under the Christmas tree.

Rob Instigator 12.13.2006 01:05 PM

My first record was Def leppard's PYROMANIA
My last record (today) was Archers of Loaf ALL THE NATION"S AIRPORTS PICTURE DISC

Savage Clone 12.13.2006 01:07 PM

For the...um, record, my record store job lasted all of 10 months.
A fun 10 months it was, though.

gmku 12.13.2006 01:08 PM

That still gives you 10 months of the sort of privileged life I was denied.

A little secret for you:
That rarified air has mold spores in it. And an obscene amount of dust!

gmku 12.13.2006 01:12 PM

In all seriousness, do record store clerks get first dibbs on the good stuff? I sometimes think the reason I don't see more really good stuff in the bins here is all the record store kids snatch it up.

soniknirve 12.13.2006 01:18 PM

i think it was clone that said clerks will hold onto any good stuff, compare to the quality of their own copy and put out the lower quality for sale.

gmku 12.13.2006 01:27 PM

I'm pretty sure the record store owner here does that, since he's definitely the collector sort. But I'm not so sure all the record store clerks can afford to do so. When I worked at a clothing store and at a camera store, I'd squirrel stuff away--we were allowed to hold things back we wanted to buy for ourselves. My problem is I'd start hording stuff and then realize I couldn't possibly buy everything--which pissed off the managers royally when they could have sold the stuff handsomely to many a regular paying customer.

_slavo_ 12.13.2006 02:31 PM

DJ mothafuckin Rick!

You'd be right to think that. When i worked in a record shop and processed the stock i'd regularly put records away for myself to buy and so did everyone else.Huge amounts of bags would end up piled up behind the counter on a regular basis but then the amount of stock that would flow in was endless.

This is the flipside/tradeoff to having no health insurance.

porkmarras 12.13.2006 05:46 PM

Inhuman is an unsung hero on here.

gmku 12.13.2006 08:33 PM

I graciously concede.

No, no, wait. I demand a recount!

Better_Than_You 12.13.2006 08:40 PM

My pa pwns all you guys. He has 1000+ records and 1000+ CDs. He is a music whore.

Better_Than_You 12.13.2006 08:40 PM

Oh... never mind. If its all about the sonic youth forget it.

Norma J 12.13.2006 08:42 PM

I'm not impressed with anything I've saw in this thread, except for the structure in which Savage Clone sets his records out.

gmku 12.13.2006 09:09 PM

We all suck, basically. Each and every one of us.

soniknirve 12.13.2006 09:12 PM
