porkmarras 01.15.2007 04:56 PM

I'm listening to it now.I also still have to listen to Tokolosh's mix but i will right after this.

racehorse 01.15.2007 06:03 PM

slowly chewing my way through all the mixes on this page, and i'm liking what i'm hearing.....
i've got a bunch of ideas for my next mix, i just need to find the time to do it. maybe friday night.
see you then!

compulsive diarrhea, jico 01.16.2007 08:29 AM

it starts with "towards the light" from the portuguese group the raindogs, it's out of the context of this mix which is mainly dub and noise.

apart from that, relax and enjoy.

http://www.badongo.com/file/2023664
(it's probably a piece of shit, gite it a try if you want to)

porkmarras 01.16.2007 08:31 AM

I haven't downloaded this yet but i will soon.

compulsive diarrhea, jico 01.16.2007 08:34 AM

taht raindogs it's there accidentaly (stupid copy/paste), it's part of other mix i was working at, mainly nick cave, tom waits, captain beefheart, bob dylan etc. i will post it once it's finished.

_slavo_ 01.16.2007 09:52 AM

I made my first mix yesterday, appropriately titled _slavo_'s Ninja Tunes (pretty retarded, huh???).
I pretty much love it - I'll upload it tomorrow since I only have it in wav and haven't found a way to convert it to mp3 yet.

Anyway, there are things like Harris/Plotkin, I.S.O., Hermit/Thirdorgan, Black Dice, AGF, Susumu Yokota/Rothko, Muslimgauze, Birchville Cat Motel, Fly Pan Am on it.

_slavo_ 01.17.2007 01:47 PM

shiiiit
I haven't converted it yet,,....

so here's the cover at least...

porkmarras 01.17.2007 02:00 PM

Cool stuff everyone.I'm listening to Jico's and Toko's mix and a good job has been done by both.I'll probably pick a movie next and make an alternative soundtrack to it complete with samples.I'm trying to think of one at the moment. If anyone has got any ideas, they are more than welcome.

porkmarras 01.17.2007 07:38 PM

Right,so far so good.Racehorse, myself,Toko,Jico,Mama, pokkeherrie,S erpiente,_slavo_(coming up),Nicfit and Synthetic all contributed a mix.Let' try to theme the next ones.Pick up a theme(a bit like kegmama's mix) and develop it from there.

compulsive diarrhea, jico 01.17.2007 07:52 PM

i choose mid-sixties psychedelic music :D

o o o 01.18.2007 04:16 AM

I finally have my internet connection back at home and I'm really looking forward to listening to all those mixes now. The links still seem to work, as yesterday I managed to download the first one in the thread (did not have the time to listen to it yet).

I would like to do one, but what software would you advise me to use in order to mix the tracks? Yesterday, I downloaded the demo of mixmeister, but as racehorse wrote, there is apparently this voice regularly insisting on the need to buy the full version. The demo of soundforge isn't ideal neither, since apparently you can only use the 60 first seconds of each track you include (not sure about this, but at least that's what I have understood). isn't there another simple and free software i could use?

porkmarras 01.18.2007 04:53 AM

Good, the more the merrier.I've only ever used Sound Forge,Mixmeister or Cool Edit Pro.If you go on some of those download websites i'm sure there must be a free program for this sort of thing.Either that or do it on tape and then convert it into a file.

nicfit 01.18.2007 05:13 AM

I made a new "themed" one called "From sunset to shunshine", here is the tracklist ( I'll add the download link as soon as my kind friend finds the time tu put the file up..)

1. Martina Topley Bird - Sandpaper Kisses
2. Radiohead - The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy
3. Tricky - Pumpkin
4. Bartòk (an italian band, not the composer) - Kinds Of Waters
5. Devics - Heart And Hands
6. Elysian Fields - Rolling
7. Bauhaus - All We Ever Wanted
8. Polly Paulusma - She Moves In Secret Ways
9. Emiliana Torrini - The Sunny Road
10. The Delgados - Pull The Wires From The Wall

1+2 - the sun is going down and you're quite tired going back to your home from work
3+4- you're home, relaxing, drinking some red wine and thinking you won't go out and stay at home, your mind is full of ideas/thoughts
5 - you can't sleep 'coz you're in love/sad/have too many things in your mind
6 - you eventually fall asleep
7 - it's dawn , your dog/cat/goldfish wakes you up jumping on your bed(remember to put the fish back in its bowl, if needed) but you're happy, if you don't have a pet it's ok, you simply wake up with a strange smile on your face.
8 - first piss/thoughts of the day
9 - you get ready to go out
10 - you decide to ride your bike to get where you need to go and will live happily ever after.

I like that idea. How about something like this video of Stan Brakhage being interviewed. His voice could be used as one of the many samples.
It would go against his belief that music is an aesthetic error in film. :)

Edit: Um... nevermind. Crap idea.

o o o 01.18.2007 05:19 AM

i wanted to use a demo version, but it looks like those demo version have limited functions which actually prevents you from doing effectively a mix (like the fact that you can only use 60-second files). or if not, there is a voice urging you to buy the full version.

anyway, i will look into it more tonight (i didn't really have time yesterday so maybe i misunderstood things).

I use Traktor, it's a kickass mix software with all them thingies and gizmos to make a great mix (EQ, frequence kill, looping, cue, reverse mode,...) and very easy to use.

porkmarras 01.18.2007 07:17 AM

Tokolosh 01.19.2007 08:25 AM

Nice! Downloading both of those now.

I still haven't listened to all the music you sent me nicfit. The lazy bastard that I am.

nicfit 01.19.2007 08:43 AM

Heeee, don't worry toko, take your time! Hope you'll enjoy most of those bands.

Tokolosh 01.19.2007 08:53 AM

Listening to your mix now nicfit. Great Sunday music compilation!

Kegmama, yours brings back memories. :)

nicfit 01.19.2007 11:16 AM

If "Sunday music" conveys the ideas/moods/feelings descibed in my little notes to the tracks I'll gladly take that as a compliment :) !

porkmarras 01.24.2007 09:37 AM

Bump!I still have to listen to your latest mix Nicfit.WHAT?No more mixes, you lazy sods?

Tokolosh 01.24.2007 09:42 AM

Let this thread die already... Nah! I'll try to make another poor attempt soon.

o o o 01.24.2007 09:54 AM

I have been working very hard on it, I swear, but it's taking more time than expected…

I already transferred a first version of my mix in a wav file, but the software I used put a voice that says "this is a demo version of blablabla" every fifteen fucking seconds!... now, I'll be doing one with the mixmeister demo version, as they don't seem to put their voice that often. I'm still very annoyed that there will be this voice, but I have been struggling for days with this mix, and i really want to complete it now…

I hope I will be able to post it tonight (there a still a few changes I might make).

_slavo_ 01.24.2007 10:58 AM

Ah, shit, I will upload mine tomorrow finally!!!! I promise!!!

o o o 01.24.2007 05:42 PM

So, here it is, finally:

http://www.badongo.com/file/2084464

(Solomon Islands) – Eolian Organs (Ghau Kilori)
Moondog – Avenue of the Americas
Grauzone – Eisbär
The Plastics – I love you, oh no!
France Gall – Laisse tomber les filles
Alexander von Borsig – Hiroshima
Dennis Alcapone (feat. The Clarendonians) – Power version
Hans Edler – My third eye
Electric Eels – Agitated
Theo Beckford – Easy snappin
RZA – Ghost Dog theme
Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf – RLGL (Remix)
Sinn Sisamouth – Don’t let my girlfriend tickle me
Edith Piaf – Jezebel
Gate – Shimmer
Danger Mouse – December 4th

(45 minutes)

it is actually the first mixtape or mix I’ve ever done – or at least I don’t recall ever doing one in my life... so please excuse me if it’s rubbish. I realise it’s more a mash-up of songs than a mix. it probably only makes sense in my head, and I’m not even sure it does make sense in my head now, but as I’ve spent all the last evenings reworking, rearranging, changing all the tracks up to the point of slowly driving mad, I might as well post it now as it is and stop losing my time struggling with it…

I enjoyed a lot racehorse’s and porkmarras’s (the first one, the only one i listened to) mixes, but I still have to listen to the others… oh and I initially wanted to include Malaria! but I saw that pokkeherrie already did…

o o o 01.24.2007 05:47 PM

Ah and yes, unfortunately there is this annoying "this was done with a demo version, please buy the software" voice that appears regularly and perhaps ruins everything… i just couldn't find a free software that didn't have restrictions preventing me to do the mix as i wanted...

porkmarras 01.24.2007 05:51 PM

Nervermind.I'll listen to it regardless.More interesting and creative than the opinions that get posted about subjects that don't even get explored in any depth, like, ever.

porkmarras 01.24.2007 06:23 PM

Awesome mix. This is the way i like it.

porkmarras 01.24.2007 06:27 PM

10/10

Totally!
