why are you here at this forum? 1st she starts a thread at the old board called "I don't like Lee", now this. Step the fuck off. Don't bother answering the question; you've been ignore listed. Quote:

I like Sting much more without the Police. He's a nice guy, he cares about things, and he has made many a fine song (and LP). You can't mess with songs like 'Shadows in the Rain', 'Seven Days', If I Ever Lose My Faith', Fields of Gold' etc. I think Sting has a bit of class about him. Sorry. |

Well, she wants to know if L7 are hispanic... That's reason enough |

No need to apologize. |
I've been getting more acquainted with the Beach Boys recently. After hearing Lee singing 'I know there's an answer' I dug out my pet sounds record and just got right into it. It's an extreme, I know, but it's pretty sonic when you get into it. Listen to the organs on 'Here Today' and you'll know what I mean.
Also, The Violent Femmes. Dude! Too cool for... country. The drummer is really friendly, y'know. |
On top with Smashing Pumpkins
Adore and Machine are great albums, and Gish isn't that good. Siamese Dream is over rated and MCIS is much better. |

1. The Shins are overrated and unoriginal. 2. Interpol are overrated and unoriginal. 3. The Killers are nothing more than a 21st century "new wave" band. 4. Lightning Bolt is a ruins ripoff. 5. Wolf Eyes wishes they were half as witty as Black Dice. 6. 95% of the people on this board didn't know who Jim O'Rourke was before his work on SYR. 7. NYG&F was a horrible album for SY standards. 8. Locust are an incredible band. 9. US Punk Rock > UK Punk Rock 10. Sex Pistols and Steve Jones in particular, ripped of the Dolls ridiculously. 11. Sub Pop has gone soft. 12. David Grubbs > Jim O'Rourke 13. The Postal Service sound like generic car commercial music. 14. The Flaming Lips new album is great. 15. Prog reemergence is "so 2000". 16. Faust > Can 17. Slowdive is unoriginal and just another carbon copy of My Bloody Valentine. 18. Shoegazer is "so early 90s" and that Ride, Lush, Chapterhouse, Catherine Wheel, and Slowdive all sound the same. 19. People in Los Angeles need to get over shoegazer and realize that there was much better music after 1992. 20. The last great true hardcore punk movement was Gravity in the early 90s. 21. Royal Trux > Jon Spencer 22. Majority of the new psychedelic noise folk bands today cannot pull off what Califone/Red Red Meat were doing 15 years ago. 23. Jim O'Rourke never made a huge noticeable impact on Sonic Youth. 24. The Hypnotics were doing stoner rock much better than the 21st century stoner rock bands. 25. Trans Am still kick ass. I could go on but I'm sure this will be enough to create a war of words. |
Oh yeah:
As far as writing music, Brian Wilson >The Beatles. |
Just remembered:
Stereolab criminally ripped off 2 bands(and songs in particular): The Beach Boy's "Let's go away for awhile"(off PET SOUNDS) and Neu's "Hallo Gallo"(off their s/t) |
"MCIS" was a masterpiece, and although lots of people don't like "Adore" I think it was pretty rad. Interpol are pretty good (haha, Im not starting anything I hope).
|
I'm lovin' this thread!
I didn't know I had so many complaints about music. |
Quote:
Na, you're entitled to your opinion(which was what this thread was about). Also, majority of people would disagree with me and side with you on that issue. |
Holy fuck!
Another: Guns and Roses are not cool, never were cool, and people in Los Angeles need to stop pumping that shit in the clubs and just remember 80s hollywood metal is not cool, was not cool, and will never be cool. |
This one is related to SY:
Kim's bass playing > Jim's bass playing when it comes to Sonic Youth's music. |
everyone is getting told! is there anyone who hasn't got an artist they love trampled on?
|
Quote:
That is a good point, and I agree. Jim's basslines were more complex and with more note-heavy, but they followed along very closely with what the guitars were doing. I like how Kim's lines are kind of off and sort of out of tune with the guitars and stuff, and how they are very simple but really go good with the music. It's a nice contrast with the music. |
The Rolling Stones are WAY overrated.
|
madonna is a wayward would that needs to be clubbed to death like a baby seal.
|
and it's about fucking time we put the stones out to pasture. after that shit they pulled with bittersweet symphany they needed a beating anyways
|
Nirvana is boring.
Sonic Youth aren't the greatest band ever. I love them and all but some of you need to get off your knees and stop bowing for them. Kind of like Khchris said Black Dice > Hair Police > Wolf Eyes Yellow Swans kick major ass Jamie Stewart is the greatest musical mind of the last decade Sufjan Stevens deserves a fucking grammy for how good his shit is "I'm Wide Awake. It's Morning." Was a decent record the Postal Service are great Same for Death Cab, the first Taking Back Sunday cd, and alot of Brand New |
Quote:
Yes! Thank you. And I agree 100% with the Guns 'n' Roses put down. The Melvins and the Butthole Surfers suck. |
Also, Rapeman's Two Nuns and a Pack Mule is one of the few PERFECT records.
|
Fat Worm of Error have the best band name in the world, ish. Too bad they kinda suck.
|
Quote:
I dunno. I like 16 Bitch Pile-Up just a little more. |
i liked black dice a lot more when they used guitars and less synths
aaron dilloway solo is way better than wolf eyes london calling is an ok album with only a couple of good songs hair metal is a FUN musical genre. both intentionally and unintentionally clap your hands say yeah is the worst band ever to be hyped interpol sucks cripple crow sucks. devendra is going down what happened to diverse thinking? fuck you heroes!! |
Quote:
that's a true statement |
Hair Metal sucked. End of story.
Clap Your Hands Say Yes is horrible. Thanks for pointing that out. I must have forgotten them. Rolling Stones are a bunch of dinosaurs. |
Fine then i won't post on this fucking board anymore. hello! the name of the thread is unpopular musical opinions! i like sy but i don't like it when my ears hurt and i get a headache! SY has alot of great songs but they have alot of not so great ones.
|
Quote:
Now that you think of it, most bands on the Ecstatic Peace ticket have awesome names. Jackie-O Motherfucker, Smegma, and My Cat is an Alien is to name but a few. |
i think some of bright eyes stuff is brilliant
|
Quote:
start with yr own opinion...then we will follow the pattern :D |
I like Interpol a lot.
I liked Billy Corgan's solo record. Wolf Parade is a fucking good band But meh, we all have our own opinions. I will argue that Jim's bass playing works better for SY as a 5 piece, but between Kim and Jim for a bass spot in a 4 piece? Kim takes that. |
radiohead is boring
sonic youth's lyrics mostly suck. Lee's are usually good. (of course the music is always amazing) magik markers are horrible |
I will second Magik Markers is horrible until I am blue in the face.
Elisa can choke on skeet and die. |
not unpopular with this board
but unpopular with the general tastes of the public is that The Sopranos (which have been using some terrific music this season) missed a perfect opportunity to close tonight's program with Sonic Youth's "New Hampshire". Instead they used "The Fourth of July" by pseudo-L.A.-punkers X. khchris actually professed once that he likes this horrible band. I'd also like to remark that his contention with Steve Jones is a stupid one. That's okay though, I got Duran Duran, Arcadia & Sade on my '80s list in that other thread haha. Which makes me remember that I forgot The Power Station on my list. That was a pretty damn good pop rock record. hey Hip Priest, Sting sings backup on a track on the Arcadia record. Also in 1985 ,he famously did back up vocals on the classic Dire Strait's Brothers in Arms track, Money for Nothing. Sting says his "I want my MTV" line was a parody of Don't Stand So Close to Me. oh yeah, a little bit of some news for all you (well, most) music-hatin' fucktards: I read that the May 9th Gilmore Girls season finale with Sonic Youth (news at main page) is actually an episode where Grant-Lee Phillips (something has always irked me about that guy) is leaving to go tour with Neil Young so the town (i guess, i've never seen the show) holds a Troubapalooza Festival & performers that will be featured (for seconds, i imagine at a time although SY were listed first in the blurb) are gonna be Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo (recently they played a show with John Zorn & Sun Ra), Joe Pernice (now with the Pernice Brothers, formerly of Northampton's own The Scud Mountain Boys), Sparks (no shit...Thurston got to work with one of his absolute faves), & Mary Lynn Rajskub (who playes Chloe on 24). ...to quote John Lennon: "strange days indeed" |

I agree 100% |

I love it when people are assholes. |
ahhh, x are good!!
not as spin and most people try to say but we're desperate and johnny hit and run pauline are classic punk songs on par with anything you want to put besides. sure, i hate their pseudo intellectual-poet pretentiousness but billy zoom was a massive guitarist and they were from like around la, i think they lived in orange county or around. and i know john doe was from baltimore and moved to cali. |
Quote:
I find you to be quite lovable as well. I like it when people point out other people's mistakes is what I should have said not "I like it when people are assholes." |
x fucking rocked folks
