Hey CHOUT, why do you have a TB looper on your board. Does it just make it easier? I've been thinking about making a TB looper or two.

I think it would be incredibly useful. I could then turn on two effects at once instead of just one, and if I wanted to turn one on at a time, I could do that too.

yeah it's helpful...all the modulation and behringer delay are in one loop and the french toast and fish n chips in the other (eq'd to work with the ft without moving the guitar tone or using a neck pickup).
Makes things much easier when you sing and play.

i finally got a big muff!

Yeah I'm going to build a few custom loop boxes. I think it will make it way easier. I'll never have to reach back for a pedal in the middle of a song again.

Also, I've got some new things I want to acquire:
an Orange Tiny Terror and a Fulltone '70

CHOUT 02.23.2008 03:42 AM

i looked at the tiny terror today...looked is all. looks cool but i wouldnt pay full price personally.

i'm currently really digging that behringer vintage delay...i used it at a show last night,,,when I'm playing bass and we need some noise i just turn on the tb loop and let it oscillate on my gtr amp.

I don't know about the Orange man. Powering a 4x12 it is pretty loud, even on the 7 watt setting.

Also it sounds great. 500 bucks for a small, portable, great sounding amp that is giggable? Sounds awesome to me.

i like it a lot. i like the sustain on it. after i bought this i gave my cheaper fuzz box to my friend. that one doesn't compare to the big muff. i recorded with it last night and i got some amazing sounds out of it.

i guess you can call it my new obsession.

it turns out i have the digital delay pedal. do you know the difference between the vintage delay and the digital delay pedals?

what loop station would you recommand that doesn't cost lot of money?

fugazifan 02.23.2008 02:21 PM

i bought a big muff like a year and half half ago and recently gaver it to my brother. i think the muff is good but only if one modifies it to its not so bassy and dfoesnt get sucked into the mix as much.
instead i bought a proco rat2 and am much happier

nature scene 02.23.2008 02:33 PM

i don't remember if I answered this thread, and I'm sure as hell not going to look through to try to find out, so here's what I got:

Boss CS-3 Compression/Sustainer
Digitech Tone Driver Overdrive
MXR Phase 90
SansAmp TRI-AC triple distortion/amp modeler
Boss PS-2 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay
Boss DD-3 Digital Delay
Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter
Morley Bad Horsey II Wah that I'm going to sell to get another crybaby

That delay is all digital and has a longer delay time and more features...the one i have has a bucket brigade analog chip that goes to 300ms...so not as much features, but it sounds great to me.

What features do you want in a looper?
Lots of time?
multiple Save-able loops?
Reverse?
Octave up/down, pitch/speed shifting?
tap tempo?

CHOUT 03.06.2008 10:49 PM

here's some stuff i've done lately as i learn the electronics thing

added the switch to go between stock/mod blue box sounds (mod sounds 100000 times better than stock)

added a green led to my frequency anaylzer

replaced my broken speed pot and added a yellow led to my nano stone

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 03.07.2008 12:00 AM

oh CHOUT, what resistance did you end up needing for that? I want to get a 3dpt and do that more my frequency analyzer.

i used a 1k cap...have you checked to make sure yours doesn't already have the 3pdt switch? mine already did, i just had to rewire it.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 03.08.2008 02:06 AM

A cap????

That's crazy talk. That makes little sense to me.

Mine is an old pointy knob one, 2pdt.

lemme know if you need a good pic for reference too...but my filter switch isnt working now dammit...didnt use it much though...ill look into fixing it sometime. I was gonna add a footswitch for that too.

Mrs. Butcher 03.08.2008 03:16 PM

i've got a few home made distortions, that's about it.

no camera here right now, but one of them is a super aggressive fuzz, sounds like a chainsaw (i think it's meant to be a guitar pedal, but it sounds ok in the higher bass register, gets a bit muddy lower down), other is one of the walkman distortion pedal mods that i use rarely.

usually play straight through to the amp, distortion channel but with gain turned low down, so if i decide to play hard i'll get distortion, if not it's clean.

soapbars 03.09.2008 10:35 AM

ta da!

Sonic Youth 37 03.15.2008 09:50 PM

Ok, I'm looking for an effect to reverse my signal. What do I need to get?

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 03.15.2008 10:44 PM

You can't do that in real time.

You've got two options:

1. Get an attack effect pedal: When you play hard it turns the volume down, then swells it at a speed you select

2. A reverse delay: Lee Ranaldo uses a Danelectro Back Talk

I use an Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai- I can have a reverse echo up to 1 second in length (well I think it can get even longer than that if I tap a really slow tempo) and I can cut all the clean signal. It also has a normal echo setting where you hit a switch and it plays your last 7 seconds of playing in reverse. That setting is way cool. Finally, it has a looping mode, with the ability to reverse the loop.

Sonic Youth 37 03.15.2008 10:57 PM

Ok, thanks. I don't need to do it real time, I was thinking of using it for breaks in songs and for loops.

CHOUT 04.24.2008 09:44 PM

found this morley fuzz/wah/volume pedal at a music go round, the second smallest wah i've ever seen next to the dod fx17 (my friend's dod is in the pic)

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.24.2008 10:35 PM

Cool. I just got a Pearl Flanger.

25 bucks. I'll do some samples in a bit. It's pretty fun.

scott v 05.12.2008 11:12 AM

I also have simplified my setup to a basic minimal set of pedals, eventhough i have soo many pedals just laying around but basically i just use these:

dunlop hendrix octave fuzz
proco rat
russian eh bigmuff
dod graphic equalizer (primarily as a booster)

backup to the hendrix octave fuzz is a danelectro french toast octave distortion. pretty much by far the best of those mini dano pedals supposedly a very close replica to the infamous foxx tone machine octave fuzz unit but for the price of $30 or so, not bad at all. bad thing is that the french toast doesn't have an LED, the switch for the distortion to octave is not foot friendly, plastic case doesn't seem durable and its not really true-by-pass (but what do you expect for a bargain pedal).

the only other pedal i'm thinking about getting right now is a reverb.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.12.2008 12:01 PM

Is the hendrix octave fuzz louder than the french toast? I loved the french toast, but with a band it would always seem to make me quieter, even when cranked.

Sonic Youth 37 06.19.2008 10:02 PM

Okay, made some purchases, updated list. maybe pics later.

Sovtek Big Muff
Cry-Baby
Dano Compressor
Dano Chorus
Ibanez Soundtank Classic Metal
DOD 515-A Sustainer
DOD Supra Distortion
DOD Stereo Flanger
Johnson 50s Tremelo
Modtone Vintage Analog Delay (new)
MXR Phase 90 (new)
Electro-Harmonix Soul Preacher Compressor/Sustainer (new)

Next thing I order will be a MXR Blue Box.

Cantankerous 06.19.2008 10:05 PM

delay/swell is my new favourite effect
you can get it to sound pretty demonic

i have a french toast which i really like but its not as loud and uniquely crazy like the hendrix octave fuzz, my octave fuzz is a beast 10 or 11 o'clock on the volume is much loud enough, cranking it beyond 12 o'clock is just deadly on the ears. though mine my have been quieter but i find it unlikely as i fried a capacitor and had to have it repaired back when i didn't know anythign about electronic circuits and how to fix the thing.

i kinda go back and forth with delay, sometimes i like it sometimes i don't... yet i love the Digitech PDS 1002 (that Lee uses) one of the longest running pedals in my chain i've modded the trim pots so i can get slightly longer delays (from 2 seconds to almost 3 seconds) without too much decay in sound quality and increased the repeats just to the point of self oscillation and if i leave it maxed it slowly degernerates and feedbacks into this intense noise swirl. kinda sounding like those lee moments of layered and overdubbed guitar noise in daydream nation.
