do you play bass or geetah?

Sonic Youth 37 08.10.2008 05:53 PM

guitar. The new Bass Muff have a function that is supposed to be super close to the old Green Russian Muff

al shabbray 08.10.2008 06:13 PM

I got an old green russian one, but I never got a cmparison. whats the difference?

Sonic Youth 37 08.10.2008 07:41 PM

The newer black Russian don't sound the same as the older Green ones. I've never played a green one, but I think the green ones are supposed to sound a lot fuller. I have a black Russian model but I love fuzz, so I'm going to pick one of the Bass Big Muff up whenever I track one down.

al shabbray 08.11.2008 03:00 AM

ah ok. doesnt sovtek produce them anymore?

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 03:01 AM

fuzzbox and zoom 500 reverb pedal is all i'm using anymore.

Derek 08.11.2008 07:20 AM

I have a cheap fuzz pedal and a Double Muff pedal

I could probably do with some more pedals actually

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 07:32 AM

Melly currently uses: Space Fuzz, Electro-Harmonix Graphic Fuzz, Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress Flanger, Elelctro-Harmonix Memory Man, Cry Baby wah-wah.

what's a space fuzz and where can i get one?

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 08:38 AM

I'll have to find the details from where I got it from when I'm at home tonight - it's a germanium fuzzz pedals, which has a couple of switches on it that can adapt the sound from a tinny to a deep bass-heavy FUZZZZ. It's a really versatile pedal - I like it loads.

Cantankerous 08.11.2008 08:38 AM

i want it just cuz of the name.

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 08:43 AM

Well you can't have mine! :p :D ;)

demonrail666 08.11.2008 08:43 AM

The Devi Ever US pedal sounds like a car bomb going off in Detroit, in 1968.

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 08:48 AM

It most certainly does - Raw Power in full effect.

the fuzz factories also use germanium transistors, and it can sound really creeeaaaamy, but also really disgusting in a good way!

Sonic Youth 37 08.11.2008 09:09 AM

EHX has a germanium OD that has a knob so you an vary the voltage between nothing and 9 volts and everything in between. It's really cool to here the battery draining sound without actually using a dying battery. Might pick one of those up.

Sovtek is still making the Black Russian Muff and that's the only one I think they've made for a while. Last time they made the green ones was the early 90s I think.

Memory Man is re-ish, Electris Mistress is original (from 1978, I believe). The E Mistress kicks serious arse, y'all.

They make the Shoegaze pedal right? I've thought about picking up one of those.

al shabbray 08.11.2008 09:56 AM

what kind of effect is the shoegaze pedal?

I like the stab knob on the fuzz factory, which modulates the tonestability of the fuzz factory...you can create really insane sounds with it

Sonic Youth 37 08.11.2008 10:19 AM

- Dual mode, foot switchable high gain fuzz

that looks really nice....want one!

Sonic Youth 37 08.11.2008 10:30 AM

It's $195, that's a lot for a fuzz, but it sounds soooooo good.

I tried one of those. It was great.

Sonic Youth 37 08.11.2008 12:39 PM

The Shoe Gazer is really tempting me. I'm the worst to impulse buy pedals. I'd really still like to have a Turbo Rat first.

demonrail666 08.11.2008 01:39 PM

I'd definitely try any Devi Ever pedal before buying one. They're definitely not 'standard' fuzz pedals.

al shabbray 08.11.2008 01:47 PM

could anybody compare it to a fuzz factory? is it worht it to own both? as somebody mentioned, its only fuzz I guess

Yeah, I tried a few. They're a lot less versatile than standard fuzzes, but make interesting sounds.

In a textbook case of Melly fuckwittery, I managed to get the name of my fuzz pedal entirely wrong :o - it's actually called the "Electro-Grid Fuzz", and here be it:

Alas, it seems that Burford Electronics no longer make this pedal :(, but I have seen it pop up on Ebay in the past...

demonrail666 08.11.2008 08:43 PM

That looks well worth investigating!

MellySingsDoom 08.12.2008 01:12 AM

^^^Next time you're round Melly Towers, you can most certainly have a go on the gtr with it - I think you'll really like the fuzz tones you can get from it.

for what is the knob on top of it?

MellySingsDoom 08.12.2008 03:11 AM

^^It's a bias filter, which changes the thickness/thinness of the fuzz. It's one of this pedal's secret weapons. :)

I love effect pedals especially when thy got some "misplaced" odd knobs which really make them special.
the time I found out that my ad-80 got a screw on the circuitboard which manipulates the sound quality and the length of the delay...was like christmas and the bunny o one day

Sonic Youth 37 08.19.2008 07:10 PM

Oh shit, Boss PS3 for $85+tax at local music shop. Going back for it tomorrow.

al shabbray 08.19.2008 07:13 PM

thats pretty cheap I think

Sonic Youth 37 08.19.2008 07:17 PM

Yes, normally $100 more than that on ebay.
