Gurgle gurgle motherf****r. Christ though, you realize we are all here because we just can't make it through the drudgery of life without semi-regular "slurpfests" for Sonic Youth. It's weird to say this, since most of my life has been spent salivating over post-punk, noise, math-rock and hardcore bands, not to mention the mellowed out golden age indie groups that grew out of a cross pollination of all these brutal genres with pop and folk... But in a world without Sonic Youth, Kanye West has become the undisputed king of my musical world, forcing even such long time runners up as Spiritualized, Flaming Lips, Aphex Twin and countless others to bend over (or... Maybe just kneel) before him. So, y'know ... Sorry... or something. But that's just the way it is. To begrudge me my slurpfests would be to discredit the purpose of SYG, and all the important work we've done here ;) |

don't worry, I've accepted it. but for all the slurpin and circle jerkin going around you need someone to keep the balance and tease;) . besides weak disagreements about the Pixies or some such nobody is adding anything worthwhile of the opposite persuasion. it's like "should I like this, should I not"?? it's arbitrary. slurp on slurpin on, but please stop with the gurgling. it's annoying.;) |

new A$AP Rocky album in like three weeks.
this is all the info i have: - features Mos Def, FKA twigs and Lykke Li. - exec prod by Yams (RIP), Juicy J and DANGER MOUSE. - said it's gonna be "psychedelic". potential album of the year on the way? :) |
man Tyler needs to get into trip-hop. imagine him making DJ Shadow/Portishead influenced stuff.

if "Multiply," "M'$" and "LPFJ2" are any indication - yeah strong contender for AOTY. |

Yeah, cuz A$AP Rocky (awesome as he is) has any chance in hell of topping Kanye and Kendrick. Well... I suppose he has a shot, assuming he hasn't hit his peak, and keeping an open mind, of making a stronger and more enjoyable album than Kendrick, but the day he tops Ye will be the day MTV plays videos. |

well personally, Live.Love was my 2013 album of the year, edging out Yeezus based on the fact that I just listened to A$AP way more. I can def see the new A$AP being better than Kendrick's album this year for me. Like I've said, I like the Kendrick. Respect it. But musically it's not doing a whole lot for me. Those 3 Rocky singles have been way more what I need. |

Hmm. I can see where you're coming from. To Pimp A Butterfly is a bit like a James Joyce novel. It's obviously brilliant... it's also a massive undertaking. I had a similar problem with FlyLo's You're Dead! I knew it was good... great, even... intellectually. But for some reason when I put it on, I rarely lasted more than 3 songs after the binge that took place during the first week. It wasn't very fun. In fact it started to irritate me after a while. I'm used to experimental music, I'm used to sonic chaos, but there was something presumptuous about it. I couldn't just press play and let the mood carry me. It was a stressful listen. Being an Aphex Twin fan, music that evokes panic and claustrophobia is nothing new either, but maybe that was the problem. Syro and You're Dead! dropped within weeks of one another, and (big shocker) RDJ stole the show. Maybe this is kinda how you feel about TPAB. Maybe not. Either way, A$AP and Kendrick are both totally secondary to what Kanye's dropped so far. Man, I'm feeling agitated just talking about You're Dead! The fact that I know it's good is no consolation. Maybe I just need to make sure I take a Xanax when I listen to it. |
By the way, did anyone catch Pitchfork's moronic review of Barter 6? I can't believe how trend happy those fucks are. That record is the epitome of boring, tired ass shit. It's why Cash Money has become an enemy of quality hip hop. Best new music. Jesus fucking Christ!

your James Joyce thing is perfect. I felt the same way about the FlyLo album. I was impressed. I knew it was good. I just never felt like listening to it. And yeah, I'm getting a similar hang-up w/ TPAB man. I thought it was great on first listen. More impressed on subsequents... but I have so little desire to put it on.
I did read the Pfork review. Honestly, I'm still gonna give the album a spin. I respect you and louder's opinions immensely... but I need to hear it for myself and see what I think. I'll let y'all know. At any rate - there's no Ye vs Rocky competition or anything in my mind. If 2015 is like 2013 the top 2 spots in my list will end up occupied by those two artists, and the #1 will simply be determined by which one I spent the most hours listening to. |
