Genteel Death 12.10.2013 05:57 PM

I don't know why rich hip hop stars should come under harsh criticism more than anyone does when it comes to materialism. Some of them got rich through their talent and when the occasion arises they fuck up just like everyone else. Your argument is unconsciously racist. Nobody questions one's wealth when it comes to Kurt Cobain's talent. Give me a break. Please.

Rob Instigator 12.10.2013 06:01 PM

there is no such thing as race.

Genteel Death 12.10.2013 06:02 PM

I was just experiencing some nostalgia for the good old days of the Coming, and I saw E.L.E. at Schuler's and bought it for $3.00.

I can't say he's quite the talent I thought he was. I've only ever really listened to the Coming, and loved it, but I think with the right production he could give up MTV spring break special muscle flexing and actually rap for a living.
I've also been listening to a lot of Black Album lately, and that verse about "not being like that fake-ass busta rhymes" has been turning over in my head.

I did appreciate his destinctly non-gangsta style in he 90's, despite the fish-eyed lens usage. I would totally listen to him spar with Q-tip... That is, if Q was sharing the mic and not just producing.

Re: Q-tip
Anyone else think Q is an extremely strange choice as producer for a producer for Kanye's Yeezus 2? And why is it starting to sound like Q and Rubin are going to be *producing* the thing (rather than just guest producing, like Daft Punk)? Kanye has never been anything less than primary producer on any of his solo albums (I don't think?), so if someone's gotta step in, I'd rather see Rza handle that shit.

noisereductions 12.10.2013 08:22 PM

Busta is just way too talented a rapper man. He's so so crazy. But oddly, I feel like I don't connect with a lot of his stuff. But he is so talented haha. The Coming is so solid though. Did you hear him Carter IV? Those tracks are insane.

Black Album kills. Fucking "Threat," "Lucifer," "Public Service Announcement," OMG.

Q-Tip is amazing. You know Tribe is my shit. Midnight Marauders is hands down my fav hip hop LP of all time.

RE: Q/Kayne... I don't know. It should be interesting. They've worked together on and off. I'm interested for sure. I mean try to remember some of the shit that Q's produced for Mobb Deep, Nas, Jay, etc. Might be going back to some straight 90's shit.

RE: Jay... he says "I'm not animated like busta rhymes" that's not a diss. Jay's style is mellow not hyper.

TheMadcapLaughs 12.10.2013 08:24 PM

yeah i've heard it a couple of days ago. it's so good right? wish that Kanye and Weezy had actual verses though.

EDIT: A$AP Ferg's cameo in the vid. :D

it's no surprise to me that Q-Tip is working on Ye's next album. Tip is actually more diverse than a lot of people seem to think. he can easily step out of the "real hip-hop"/soulful rap lane when he wants. don't forget he produced "That's My Bitch" from Watch the Throne.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 12.11.2013 12:13 AM

Love me some Busta, love me some Tip, bout time y'all start talking about rap I can relate too yo!

he's got some clever lines but first impression his voice is kinda annoying

louder 12.11.2013 07:18 AM

can't get into Gambino.. his music does nothing to me.

louder 12.11.2013 07:28 AM

Meth's verse on Trillmatic is so good, he renegaded Nast.

Look at Meth, breaking bad like he cooking meth in the lab
Still a lethal weapon but try and bless him with math
Rappers never learn their lesson so I ain't letting 'em pass
I ain't letting 'em brag, I ain't letting 'em swag
Fuck swag, just being blunt, while I'm plucking my ash
Y'all ain't up in my class in the building
It's A$AP Meth, quick to kill 'em, that's an ASAP death

wooooooo!!

yeah a bit too much of a "greatest hits" eh? Dammit. Still, nice to get "Thank You" on a free mixtape. But would have been nice to have a lot more new shit or at least new remixes of old shit like that Tribe mixtape that coincided with the documentary that Michael Rappaport made. That was solid.

louder 12.13.2013 02:45 AM

new Burial EP is amazing.

louder 12.13.2013 05:14 AM

Beyonce just dropped a whole new album outta nowhere.

Jay is featured on "Drunk in Love". fucking loved his verse!! really his best shit in a while.

now i just want Watch the Throne II in my life.

listened to Diplomatic Immunity, Come Home with Me, Purple Haze, and some of Juelz' solo debut. all great stuff that give me chills. Cam has a great sense of humor, dude is so witty. listening to one of his albums back-to-back and hearing those awesome skits just make everything better. and his wordplay is just crazy. low-key he's like the southern DOOM.

noisereductions 12.15.2013 10:26 AM

Southern Doom? Cam's from Harlem.

But yeah Cam is really awesome. Purple Haze is incredible. Love that album. I also listened to Crime Pays not that long ago and realized it's so much better than I thought upon release.

Diplomatic Immunity 2 and We Are Music Vol 1 are two of my fav Dipset releases as well. So solid.

I'm also a huge fan of Jim's album Harlem's American Gangster. Very underrated.

louder 12.15.2013 12:48 PM

LOL true, of course he's from Harlem! i don't know what the hell i was thinking when i wrote that *shaking my head*. :o

probably cuz i always say about Gucci that he's the southern DOOM. both remind me of him in some ways. Cam is way better than Gucci though.

yo i haven't heard that Jim album. i'll check it out.

noisereductions 12.15.2013 01:39 PM

Cam IS way better than Gucci yeah.

I think of Cam as the East Coast Weezy. (When both were in their prime). That love of wordplay. That exploration of the way words just sound.

Harlem's American Gangster is such a weird album. It was supposed to be a mixtape, but then Koch released it as an album. The thing is, it's Jones obviously going after Hov, right? And I mean American Gangster is untouchable. HAG does not live up to AG. But I guess it's awesome hearing a guy who is so below Hov trying to go so hard at him. In that way, it has this really weird charm to it. If that makes sense? It's far from Jones' "best" album, but in a funny way it's my favorite of his.

louder 12.15.2013 04:11 PM

NR, have you heard A$AP Mob's tape from last year (Lord$ Never Worry)? in my opinion, it's underrated as hell & really dope.

yup! It's got some good stuff on there for sure. I don't like it as much as Live.Love.A$AP, but it's solid. I can't wait for the new A$AP Mob album after hearing that single w/ Mef.

FUCK YOU KANYE 2013 YEWWWWWW

Rob Instigator 12.16.2013 09:48 AM

Open letter from Police Chief David Oliver to Kanye West

Dear Kanye West,

I am honored to be writing such an important star. I am a mere Internet sensation. I’m not sure I am worthy to address you, although the Huffington Post did say I was “Humorous and Insanely Popular.” I don’t pay much attention to those things. Anyway, please excuse my interference in your life for a quick second.

I read your interview and also watched it on video. You said:
“I’m just giving of my body on the stage and putting my life at risk, literally.….and I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something.”

I want to thank you for putting your life on the line for all of us every day. I know that being a rapper is tough work. I have tried to rap, and it is very difficult to keep up with the pulse of the rhyme flow…although when Ice Ice Baby comes on the radio, I can usually keep up with ol’ Vanilla. Anywho, your job is just some very dangerous work. Most people don’t consider… if you rap really fast, without a chance to inhale, you could pass out and hit your head.

That last paragraph was covered in sarcasm. I’m letting you know, just so you do not think I agree with your very ignorant assessment of your career (or any other performer)as it relates to a person in the military or a police officer’s service. You sir, are as misguided as they come. I do have a suggestion for you. Since you are accustomed to danger, from your life as an international rapper, I am strongly encouraging you immediately abandon you career as a super star and join the military. After joining, I would like you to volunteer to be deployed in Afghanistan or one of the numerous other forward locations where our men an women are currently serving. When the Taliban starts shooting at you, perhaps you could stand up and let the words flow. It could be something like “I’m Kanye West, wearing a flak vest.” I’m sure they would just drop weapons and surrender. You could quite possibly end all wars, just from the enemy being star-struck.

Your line of thinking is part of the problem in the world today….which include entertainers thinking they are something more than just entertainers. I know it is supply and demand and the demand for your services is high. I get economics. What I do not get is you EVER comparing what you do for a living to our heroic military members, who are always in harm’s way… and my brother and sister police officers who have to go to work carrying weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest to protect themselves.

Check yourself, before you wreck yourself….Chief Oliver.

noisereductions 12.16.2013 06:45 PM

you are a funny guy, Rob.
