postal service just barely toe the line between sucking and decency. and they only made one album, so they're not big offenders.
|
I haven't been listening to all that much music since this road trip began.
|
Yoko Ono is my favourite Beatle

I'm probably the only person on the planet that thoroughly enjoys this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PizGV-zKi44

oh my god, i had "this is a long drive.." and "lonesome crowded west" blasting today. good times. haven't heard them in over a year and broke those out today. |
I'm sure this isn't that unpopular here but I think Interpol are really boring and don't understand why people like them so much

I love this. |
LCD Soundsystem
MGMT Interpol Scissor Sisters We Are Scientists and the entire dance-rock revival is shit. |
I can't stand Modest Mouse. I love Death Cab and Tegan and Sara. I don't get the big deal with Bright Eyes.
|
Quote:
Yeah definitely. I mean even in the realm of 'revival post punk' or whatever there's better stuff than Interpol going on...I mean I guess I'm glad they got people interested again but I really don't get the fuss. |
Modest Mouse were pretty good up til the last album but I never really want to listen to them, even the old stuff.
|
They were decent if a little unexceptional. I thought it was interesting that the songs that the girl sang (sorry I'm shit at names) seemed way ahead stylistically and in originality over the ones the dude did. I'm not sure if they write separately or not, but I'll assume they do considering the vast difference in quality. I DID like them, I just can't say I'd buy a record or anything.

-Henry Rollins was the best singer of Black Fag. Side 2 off My War is some of the best shit ever. Slip It In is an incredible hard rock record.
-GG Allin in one of the most interesting characters (don't think he was a genius or anything) in music over the last 25 years and made some great records. On "Always Was, Always Is, And Always Has Been" he's in the ranks of Darby Crash, Iggy Pop and Stiv Bators in greatest snotty punk vocalists. "The Suicide Sessions" is better sludgy noise rock than Drunkdriver, Pissed Jeans etc. -Nick Cave blows. All post-Birthday Party projects suck. That junkie-poet. swap rock thing is one of the least versatle and interesting musical styles. Bang records sucks. -Alice Cooper group (meaning when Alice Cooper was the name of the band, Dennis Dunaway was on bass etc) were better than the MC5. Love It To Death, Killers and Easy Action are awesome sleazy hard rock records. -Television sound like a bunch of wussy art school pricks. They make Roxy Music sound like Motorhead. - Early days of SST were better than early days of Rough Trade. - Early 80's USA is better than early 80's UK. |
John Cage is boring.

And really most early ''electronic'' music as well. Edgar Varese>Karlheinz Stockhausen |

That's not unpopular, it's far-fetched. |
Power chords suck.
|
Quote:
thanks Rob_I. I figured out the DIY myself after a few hours but the shoegazers I had no clue I like... |
The first interpol record (the first side) is fucking pure rock fabulousness
everything else is so DULL |
spinnerette >>>>> the distillers

Far-fetched that most of the ''pioneers'' in electronic music were somehwat boring? Ok, your entitled to your opinion, I just think far too much credit is given towards their quality of music/sound/compositions, than to their actual influence and importance within the context of future artists. |

Well, if it weren't for power chords, I wouldn't be a musician. |

Music-wise, I love both, but I'm more sold on Neil these days. |

I don't understand you. |
i still like 'firestorm" by earth crisis.

i probably wouldn't put it on or listen to it though. |

you might've at an early exc show, but i doubt so when they got bigger. i remember the singer of throwdown got into a fight at a show because this guy lit one up. |
Prince is way better than Michael Jackson.
|
Quote:
i still love michael jackson though |
Quote:
Same here. |
prince is dope.
|
i do prefer prince but got a bit tired of hearing the words 'musical genius' every single time his name was mentioned in the media.
|
Quote:
Yeah, I'm slowly moving in this direction I think. |
I am a huge Prince fan, but I can't remember the last time he's done anything worthwhile. Black Sweat.. that's about it.
|
Statistically women make more interesting, enjoyable music now than ever. Please combine this thread with the other one I started, because females are way more interesting, creative, to the point etc than ever. I am very happy.
|
prince was great, but yeah his recent work (anything after graffitti bridge) is comparible to muck.....
still he wrote sign o the times, one of the greatest songs ever written by mankind... |
Prince is way better than MJ, no comparison necessary in my books.
Unpopular opinion: Deserter's Songs is far better at being The Soft Bulletin than The Soft Bulletin is, and it was released months earlier. Mercury Rev just doesn't get enough credit in general. |
Hypothesis: One day soon there will be a critical backlash against Radiohead once the "alternative music press vanguard" decide to pit them against some noisy visceral new thing that makes their recent work sound like yawn-worthy product made by "professional" musicians. It will be similar to how people saw Yes, Zeppelin and Pink Floyd as cultural dinosaurs and cast them to the side when punk hit. WE CAN ONLY HOPE.
This might also happen with Sonic Youth, to a lesser extent. It's happened a few times before with certain albums (Dirty, NYCG&F, Murray Street - remember that Village Voice review by Amy whatsherface?), but not to the extent that they should just quit while their legacy is un-tarnished. |
