Yeah. That album is what really threw a wrench into my 2014 list. I felt weird about putting it so on a list for a year that it barely made it into. Then I vacillated... finally I decided it deserved top 10 status no matter what, but I left it out of the top 5 just because of timing. It is a brilliant fucking album. The best R&B release since Channel ORANGE. Possibly... actually, probably, better. I've known I liked D'Angelo since hearing how gritty and dope the non-singles and album cuts on Voodoo were. But I was worried he'd lost his mind a bit. Now I think he's one of the most talented artists in music, and crazy or not, he's released 2 10/10 albums. a perfect record. Fucker's going on tour and I'm fixin' to see him. |
I wore out Graduation last summer and the summer before, before that. think i'll do it again this year too.
only heard bits and pieces of Black Messiah but it sounds fucking great. |
i really like both Future tapes from this year. can't wait for "Ape Shit" his collab tape with Mike Will.

YES!! FINALLY. |

Every time I see Kanye I just think "Soooooo...... How's that album ya been workin' on?" I want a goddamn track list and release date, like, yester-fuckin'-day! |
Ugghh!!
Kanye's forthcoming (but when?) album, previously titled So Help Me God will be titled SWISH. SWISH? SWISH. God motherfucking dammit. He's havin' a bloody laugh. |

Hey, this thread's kinda dead in the water.

Is it good? I know Snoop totally dissed my mang man Jah B (Bunny Wailer, the Emperor of Reggae) but I always have a soft spot in my music collection for Snoop records.. |
RE: BUSH
Hmm... I didn't answer right away because I was really excited about this record and he first listen was so... mind boggling... downright shocking really.. that I was sure I was not hearing it right. But I was. And unfortunately, despite some exquisite production, this album is a Snoop album about as much as that Snoop Lion joint was. In other words, it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SNOOP WE KNOW AND LOVE. The only actual rapping on the album is on the tracks that feature T.I., or Kendrick and Rick Ro$$. It's like.... Snoop kinda doing an 808's thing, only instead of being iconoclastic and daring and refreshing like 808's, it's pretty much just a dogg turd covered in shoe polish. Snoop croons like some twisted crazy pedo uncle of Frank Ocean's. Literally, all our boy does is fucking sing. He makes some piss poor attempts at being romantic. The lyrics reach new levels of stupidity... "RUA Freak or what/ I'm just a squirrel trying to get a nut/ you crack me up!" "My name is snoop dogg/ not to complain/ I gets my groove on/ Do my thing/ My planet's Krypton(?)/ home of the freaks(?)/ come get your moon rocks/ I am a G" (Uhh... you're Superman now? Oh, just a freak.. Got it. I forgot that the Freaks, and their cousins the Shuck & Jivers were aboriginal to Krypton long before it was colonized by Kryptolumbus for the Kryptonians back in star year 0mega99^[1000]. But that doesn't explain why it would be a place to go for moon dust. Just saying.) I'm seriously fucking embarrassed. I've been waiting for a promo of this for months. We all know Snoop is still fully capable of rapping his motherfucking ass off, but this is some Teddy Pendergrass/Lionel Richie lite-funk shit. On the upside, T.I. Holds it down! And Rick Ross and Kendrick do too. But it's basically an album full of Snoop trying to do "Get Lucky"... without Daft Punk. I think it may have some niche value in the long run. But SFAD, I don't think you're going to be fuckin' with this one. "Reinvented Snoop's career" my bloody, hemorrhoidal asshole!! I'm even pissed at Pharell. There are potential "Happy"-esque hits all over this album, so it might be a commercial success, but this sure as hell is not what I was hoping for. |

Dude, I have a soft spot for old boy too, but do yourself a solid and forget about this album immediately. |
Hold never diss Teddy Pendergrass
|
Pharrell actually wrote and produced the entire album.
|
been listening to a lot of Vince lately. obviously the Hell Can Wait EP from last year is dope, but don't sleep on Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1 & 2, as well as STOLEN YOUTH which was entirely produced by Mac Miller.
|
changed my mind and decided to give the Snoop album a spin. it's actually a fun summer album. i think you just expected too much from Snoop at this point, Sev.

Ima give it a spin but it sounds to me like what I was afraid it might be, some kind of experiment with that "trap" sound.. now it is not surprising since essentially snoop was part of the invention of original trap themed rap about dealing in the early 90s, and also how with every Snoop album in the past he was willing to experiment with contemporary sounds, whether the No Limit era, or that Blue Carpet Treatment record.. Snoop always tries to rap with new styles |

Sorry, I got thrown off by Severian's 808 reference..
