having an opinion on nirvana at all doesnt count

Seandi 07.09.2009 12:05 AM

nirvana was barely ok

DeadDiscoDildo 07.09.2009 12:09 AM

nirvana was barely genius, and by barely I mean definitely.

But not the end all. There is never a be all end all.

summer 07.09.2009 12:32 AM

Alright I'm not sure how popular/unpopular the band is outside of Pitchfork buuuuut.. I just listened to Sunset Rubdown's Random Spirit Lover, and couldn't really finish it.. like three tracks to go and I couldn't. It all sounds so samey and just eww. Total shit.

automatic bzooty 07.09.2009 12:38 AM

sunset rubdown are poo. wolf parade are poo. i haven't heard any other spencer krug bands, but i bet they're poo, too.

dionysusundone 07.09.2009 12:52 AM

Dirty Projectors are one of the worst bands I've ever heard.

atsonicpark 07.09.2009 02:12 AM

I saw sunset rubdown live once, and they were fucking terrible. It was part of some shitty festival. They were the worst band there, of like 15 bands...

I love Blackhearts, but never cared much for Runaways.

Live in Leipzig is my favourite of theirs. I like Deathcrush more than De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas though.

demonrail666 07.09.2009 04:57 AM

I totally agree on the Deathcrush thing. Far better than De Mysteriis.

I can't think of a single song that wouldn't be 1000 times more interesting if Bruce Dickinson provided the vocals.

Death & the Maiden 07.09.2009 05:01 AM

I've always preferred Paul Di'Anno to Bruce Dickenson. I think Iron Maiden's S/T is the best thing they did.

Fair enough, but think about it, DiAnno singing 'Death Valley '69' wouldn't be all that interesting, but Dickinson ...

Death & the Maiden 07.09.2009 06:33 AM

Haha, I see your point.

Rob Instigator 07.09.2009 09:56 AM

EVERYONE thinks In Utero is Nirvana's best album. that i NOT an upopular opinion.

loubarret 07.09.2009 12:12 PM

Unplugged is great also got me into the Meat Puppets which isn't a bad thing at all.

Rob Instigator 07.09.2009 12:19 PM

not a bad thing, but not a good thing either.

ha!

loubarret 07.09.2009 12:28 PM

Depens on how you look at it.

automatic bzooty 07.09.2009 01:38 PM

if you flip it upside down and squint, it looks like madonna.

MellySingsDoom 07.09.2009 02:00 PM

I think everyone here is grimly aware of my love for the Ting Tings....

You mean our love for the Ting Tings.

automatic bzooty 07.09.2009 02:35 PM

SHUT UP THAT'S NOT MY NAME.

They're not as bad as I first thought... though, erm, still not great.

joe11121 07.09.2009 03:46 PM

Yeah, they're alright.

The quality of Mayhem record has been a bit up and down. But their last Ordo Ad Chao is pure genius! Totally fucked up in a good way.

atsonicpark 07.09.2009 06:57 PM

In Utero..... hmm... Heart-Shaped Box is boring, Rape Me is probably their worst song, All Apologies is awful, Pennyroyal Tea is bland, Frances Farmer sucks except for the kick-ass riff in the middle, Tourette's is a throwaway.

The other half of songs is quite great though. I love love love Scentless Apprentice and Radio Friendly Unit Shifter. Serve the Servants, Very Ape, and Dumb are quite good as well. And, oh yeah, Milk It.. Milk It is insane, even though it sounds quite awful compared to the songs it rips off/pays homage to/whatever (Melvins' "It's Shoved")...

I can also join your club.

atsonicpark 07.09.2009 09:21 PM

It bores the shit out of me. And it's 1 minute long. It's definitely a throwaway, to me.

Rob Instigator 07.09.2009 09:47 PM

FEAR is the best West Coast punk band

Satan 07.09.2009 10:00 PM

standard tuning sucks ass

Satan 07.09.2009 10:31 PM

made up ones really are the best
it's so hard to write a decent song in standard tuning

QFT

Most songs I've written are with some fucked up tuning and a capo on the 4th fret

Seandi 07.09.2009 11:25 PM

the true meaning of rock and roll=Joan Jett

atsonicpark 07.10.2009 12:41 AM

I think that was already said..

fugazifan 07.10.2009 12:58 AM

i used to shy away from standard tuning, but ive almost completely gone back to it, or at least 50/50 with open tunings. i got sick of made up tunings.
its really not about the tuning, but the guitarist....
