its not my ability to play guitar that's a hindrance
it's the fact that whats floating around in my head is impossible to transpose onto a standardly tuned guitar, physically...i have to tune my guitar to accommodate the music

atsonicpark 07.10.2009 04:12 AM

you know you don't want it with the hatred incarnate
show me your pussy and watch me vomit on it
the wicked king wicker chew you up like snickers
she looked at me funny got stabbed in the ticker
the trigger is my quick fix to turn off the suck
6 shots equals six brand new holes fuck
she's stuck in the trunk of an old honda civic
turn a born again christian to a dead again cynic
where's your burka, coatrack whore?
i make more enemies than faith no more
you can call it malpractice when I swing the axe
she's more broken up than Discordance Axis
moved away to try to become an actress
ended getting stuffed inside a mattress
some would tell you she was already a mattress

Boredom...

Actual, honest-to-God boredom.

I used to play in my own made up tunings all the time (sometimes I'd use an SY tuning as well), but I was basically writing not very good Sonic Youth style songs. As I got more into the conventional theory side of music, I began to use standard almost all the time. Now I use key signatures and modulations and other things like that.

Funk metal is the only forward thinking genre of music to emerge in the last twenty years

noone really listens to merzbow, they just say they do.

therealglenstyler 07.10.2009 07:44 AM

Here's an unpopular one round here. From 74 til 77 Kiss were one of the greatest rock n roll bands of all time. You name them, Kiss were probably better than them.

Was not aware.
Can't believe I like a Kiss song.

???? so you're the one that's stealing my thoughts?

Everyneurotic 07.10.2009 01:33 PM

king khan & bbq show are fucking awful.

static-harmony 07.10.2009 01:39 PM

I still can't stop listening to Lady Gaga. Say what you say, but she outdid everyone in that genre.

GeneticKiss 07.10.2009 07:22 PM

^That's what makes it "unpopular"...

As far as standard vs. open/altered tunings, I agree that weird/interesting sounding chords are easier to play in open tunings, but leads are next to impossible.

Also, I've found that playing in altered tunings too much can cause songs to sound alike, especially if you're using drone tunings.

and i may or may not be selling them to the "other team" ...

Shifty Prophet 07.11.2009 12:30 PM

In the David Bowie canon I've always felt that ''Heroes'' was better than ''Low''. Despite the articulated arguments of many knowledgeable musicians and fans a like, I've just always thought that ''Low'' was slightly inferior.

demonrail666 07.11.2009 01:36 PM

yeah, Low 'feels' like a better album. If that makes sense. It somehow seems more significant or 'important' when I listen to it. Of the two though I definitely prefer 'Heroes'.

GeneticKiss 07.11.2009 04:28 PM

One word asserts Heroes' superiority over Low:

Neukoln

Seandi 07.11.2009 04:42 PM

Low=Much better drum sound

Toilet & Bowels 07.11.2009 07:41 PM

david bowie is mediocre at best

_slavo_ 07.13.2009 02:15 AM

"In Rainbows" belongs to the top three Radiohead records, right after Kid A and OK Calculator.

"Hi there. We're electronic music of the last 20 years."

Youth_Against_Facism 07.13.2009 07:00 AM

Pink Floyd is the best band I've ever heard.

demonrail666 07.13.2009 07:46 AM

U2 have made more good albums than bad ones.

gualbert 07.13.2009 08:43 AM

Now the opinions are getting really unpopular!

+1
I've listened to Ziggy Stardust dozen of times, trying in vain to hear some part of his "genius".
Without his reputation, I'd have quit way earlier.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

_slavo_ 07.13.2009 08:50 AM

i was wondering, who's that dude in your signature, SuperCreep? it ain't David Tibet, is it?

SuperCreep 07.13.2009 08:59 AM

It is. That's what makes it so amazing.

how worried should I be that you took me seriously there?

... have to say though, your examples don't quite support your point, i mean, it's like you put pictures of tad, screaming trees and mudhoney up stood back and said "Voila! guitar music of the last fifty years, never been healthier!"

Rob Instigator 07.13.2009 09:36 AM

David Bowie is BORING AOR rock, and always has been, disguised as groundbreaking new "styles" which he stole from true rockers.

Decayed Rhapsody 07.13.2009 11:07 AM

Says the ARCHERS OF LOAF fan haha. I can see how some peeps don't dig Bowie, but AOR?!?! Have you listened to The Man Who Sold The World or Scary Monsters? He openly admits he's never had an original idea in interviews (but this is the case for a lot of artists).

Rob Instigator 07.13.2009 11:22 AM

fuck bowie

floatingslowly 07.13.2009 11:31 AM

I like the archers of loaf, but not as much as I like bowie.

does that make me halfway on-topic here?
