Oh yes it's awesome.

Probably seen this a hundred times but it still makes me laugh.

Torn Curtain 10.24.2011 05:22 AM

Jarmusch's Year of the horse.

Rather disappointing, worth seeing for the amazing 1978 version of "Like a hurricane" though.

It's ok, nothing special but it kept me entertained and was a reasonably funny alien/hoody/horror/comedy. I'd give it 7/10 maybe.

with all the talk of bjork the other day (i forget which thread) i decided to finally watch this:

von trier is a fucking sentimental sadist. this was a bit fucking much. okay, i get it, you want to fuck musicals upside down and make dreadful things happen, but this was over the top. bjork was fucking great though as a part-retard creature, her little piglet face under those big glasses. she was brilliant.

the rest of the casting left much to be desired-- catherine deneuve as a factory worker? really? doesn't fit the type. a swede playing an american for wannabe boyfriend? come on. everybody had a fucking accent here, which takes away from the story. and i guess it's okay because the story is a fucking shameless manipulation.

also, all the talk of cronenberg got me rewatching this:

well, fuck, that was fucking great. the nc-17 version restores nipple and crotch shots where they rightfully belong. great fucking movie. it's a difficult one, and i need to see it again. DVD comes without commentary so you can find the criterion laserdisc mp3 on the interwebs.

noisereductions 10.25.2011 12:28 PM

^Von Trier sucks.

Quite entertaining, definitely from the 80's, it seems to have all of those staples. I think they wasted a little too much time with the Brenda character and the police in general, both of which are completely unnecessary to the plot and go absolutely nowhere. It's a shame too because the rest of the immortals and their exposition could really have used some more fleshing out. Sean Connery was badass though.

LifeDistortion 10.29.2011 10:30 AM

Since it partly takes place on Halloween, and I just really like this movie. Not the director's cut though.

Pelle 10.29.2011 10:35 AM

Wrong Turn 4, it was pretty good. I like em. :)

HenryHill51 10.29.2011 10:04 PM

Halloween state of mind.... recently watched:

1. Exte Hair Extensions- more perverted (but great) cinema from Sion Sono
2. Haunting of Julia- mid 70's psychological thriller with Mia Farrow
3. Prince of Darkness- Carpenter's most under appreciated film? I think so...
4. House of the Devil- quickly becoming a Halloween tradition

non halloween- Martha Marcy May Marlene, one of the best films I've seen yet this year

Even though Romero has proven himself to be extremely one note and blows serious chunks these days, he still made this movie. And no one could ever take that away from him.

i'm watching this now, i thought bjork being czech wouldn't work but wow the american characters are generally even less believable. it's not important but i really can't buy that this is washington

I like how "Halloween 3" went from being that crappy movie that had nothing to do with Micheal Myers, to being that movie that was cool enough to do something different. Seems like its gotten a lot more appreciation over the years.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 11.03.2011 06:02 PM

^ It deserves it. It's a beautiful, and very fun film. One of my all-time favorites. In a sense, I like it even more than the original - I've certainly had enough sigs/avatars dedicated to it on here to suggest that.

Just wait 'til the original 'Prom Night' starts getting noticed for its great cinematography. Then all hell will truly break loose.

I love 3. Not as much as 1, but 3 has a special feeling to me. It's one I remember watching ON Halloween when I was very young.

keep poppin pimples 11.06.2011 10:53 AM

the first three halloween films are all really great to me, and 4 is pretty awesome as well

to.w 11.06.2011 11:29 AM

I've just watched this :

(cut version)
better than the first one, more "beautiful" (if I can say so...) probably thanx to the black and white photography.

Then, to forget all those awful scenes, I' ve watched this one :

cool! not the best film by Gondry, but still enjoyable!

!@#$%! 11.06.2011 12:57 PM

this thing:

it starts pretty great, suprisingly, with a kind of 5th-element creature as the main character, and it evolves well, but motherfucker, do the writers really fuck up the plot and the believability in the characters when they make a trained hunter and killer run like a stupid rabbit. at least jason bourne had an army behind him and could justify (at first, at least) not to hunt his hunters. rifunckingdonculous. death be to the last 30 or so minutes of this movie.

the cinematography was beautiful, some gorgeous greys in the winter scenes, and some cold would-be denmark/germany, but really, mother fucking really, why did they have to turn the main characters into complete fucking imbeciles for no particular reason?

i am still mad because they actually made me care.

Its a good story. Im fiding it interesting and slightly scary. But the grammar isnt all that great. you need to make sure your is are capital letters. even if i did know the i should of been I. Also you need to add but your using , for but it is still a good story, but I dont know why you changed your writing style. It went from script to story. Also avoid the word yh. Plus, why would she give out her details on a radio station? Every child is taught not to do thta. She wasnt even asked

i found it pretty mediocre, it was quite successful at being really sad and disturbing, but the music and dialogue etc. was really bad.

Martin (the main character) is really fucked up, and he is extremely violent. Plus, he's not a surgeon... his surgical materials are hammers, saws, stapler, etc...
The first one was more like a joke compared to this one...
