Yeah- At.Long.Last.A$AP (aka ALLA... Ha!) is now slated for June 2, which still seems mighty early. I wouldn't be surprised if one more delay was announced.

(Btw: has anyone else been sitting around in the 24 months since Long.Live.A$AP, imagining what the next title of his album would be? I have, and I've gotta say, I thought a "All.Hail.A$AP" would be next. Am I crazy or does that feel like a totally probable future album title?)

So what are everyone's thoughts on the B-sides concert Jay-Z's planning in promotion of Tidal?

noisereductions 05.08.2015 08:08 PM

He's turning into a pretty solid hip hop experimenter.

I hope he gets picked up by GOOD Music. Actually, I'm not sure why that hasn't happened yet. Seems like a pretty perfect match if you ask me.

i like how he was too weird for Interscope to handle. he should've signed with GOOD in the first place, but he was too young to really know what he was doing.

Yeah Severian somehow doesn't like Abe's phenomenal drumming.. it boggles my mind yet also ive been listening to this band since 1997 and ive always gotten more static than found fellow fans so im used it..

Around the fur shove it bored engine no9 Be quiet and drive head up digital bath change passenger beauty school rocket skates sextape diamond eyes romantic dreams leathers poltergeist rosemary lotion hexagram cherry waves..knife party elite

A fantastically balanced set list including tracks from every record.. i was very surprised Chino did the hip hop tracks from around the fur and adrenaline. He has said he never liked his raps and that he doesn't like adrenaline.. but its one of my favorite aspects of early deftones indeed its what initially caught my attention with them

Severian 05.09.2015 10:23 PM

There are hip hop tracks on Around the Fur?

I do not recall. Some kinda RATM-y spitting, drowned out by noise, certainly, but honest to got hip hop tracks like ... Shit... Like "Wicked"?

I don't remember that on around the fur.

I just remember Be Quiet and Drive being one of the best uses of Drop D tuning on the radio that year, and everything else sounding like a knife fight in a phone booth compared to the music made by the rest of the band's buddies.

I should pop that album in. I used to never leave home without it.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 05.09.2015 11:29 PM

The third verse on around the fur is a rap so is Lotion, the break beat in my own summer is hip hop azz fuhg. Head Up is a rap. really all the drum work from around the fur is hip hopx if you played tjust the bass and drum tracks from that youd swear it was rap.

From adrenaline Engine No 9 and minus blindfold are a straight rap..

There is Pink Maggot on white pony..

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 05.10.2015 01:38 AM

Also, i adore be quiet and drive. That intro hits me as hard as it did 17 years ago when i first heard it but neither it nor any thing on Around The Fur are in drop D, steph plays seven string. Oh, to be sure i play that entire album on my own guitar from beginning to end (literally) in a drop Db BUT steph is playing them in a standard tuning on 7string downtuned a half step

Yeah I know Adrenaline is filled with that muck. My least favorite Deftones record. I say again: they could have been Faith No More 2!

Ah yes, I had almost completely forgotten about the ridiculous 7 string trend. Still, it amounts to roughly the same thing. I'm a little embarrassed that I made such an egregious error, but It's been a while since I listened to these guys. I like to fuck around with drop tunings myself, but it's usually to record rhythm parts that have a more "Good Morning Captain Outro" type of feel than to play out and out metal.

I'm glad you had fun at the show. For all my shit talking, I actually have a lot of respect for Deftones. Saw them at (blegh) Warped tour way back when, and they saved me from wasting the entire price of a ticket.

Not sure I love the cover art. It detracts from the look and feel of the first two, and feels a little Marilyn Mansony. Also, who phoned in that typeface? Are we sure this isn't fan art?

On the first two albums (or, rather, the first mixtape and the first album... Though I've got a retail print of Live.Love around here somewhere. Maybe just a promo... Anyway on those albums, the covers really helped establish Rocky's (God I hate saying things like this) brand.

There's a sense of ceremony, and uniformity to the whole feel of A$AP Mob, and the first cover was a simple but startling and powerful image. The cover of Long.Live.A$AP took it further. It was still black and white, but the image was high definition, and super official. Plus, it was a nice play on the whole Rocky thing. He managed to make totally different kind of image using the same basic elements, and the result was iconic. One of the best hip-hop album covers of the era.

But... shit... This looks pretty goddamn whack to me.

The Yams tribute motif is a nice idea but whatever the fuck they've got going on now looks like a cross between Manson and

I mean, what's with the white washed look? The contrastless black and white over black and white? It is not an aesthetic pleasure to behold. Not one bit.
