Severian 11.21.2018 09:49 AM

For those old enough to remember the Source awards where Suge called out Puff and the ensuing brawls, this might be the modern day version of that. Lol.

Love that Push walked back out and performed “Infrared” of all songs. Get it, P!

I felt this way about DAYTONA.

Personally I think these 20-minute albums are too short to be considered albums. Records like Yeezus and DAMN., that severed all the extraneous stuff and say what needs to be said in 10 tracks over about 40 minutes — those are where it’s at for me.

20-minute albums just make me wonder why. And, “Is this really all I’m going to get this year from this artist?”

Kids See Ghosts is the only one that somehow feels like more than 7 songs. Feels like an album.

Of course you noticed. It was more a rhetorical question. I definitely felt that FM! ended just as it was getting great.

They’re all perfectly serviceable EPs, great even, but that’s too goddamn short.

How are you going to measure something like Ye up against anything else in Kanye’s discography? Even if every song was as good as Ghost Town, it drops to the bottom simply because there’s less than half as much of ANYTHING.

I’m fine with it as long as artists cal these things EPs and don’t pretend 20 minutes is enough to tide people over for 1-3 years.

Fuck

Severian 11.21.2018 03:11 PM

Better than Scorpion though

All of it is better than Scorpion.

louder 12.01.2018 08:32 AM

Earl's album is fucking gorgeous.

Severian 12.01.2018 10:43 AM

Yeah new Earl is amazing.

“Shattered Dreams” is a revelation.

Severian 12.01.2018 07:04 PM

Rob, I can’t believe you don’t like “FM!”

I would think “Don’t get Chipped” would be right up your alley.

louder 12.02.2018 07:04 PM

Rob.. do you like 6ix9ine? I think he might be your thing. Maybe not.

Glad you love it!

Ew dude.

I think Rob like thunderous bass lines and woozy druggy shit, even if it’s repetitive. Not screaming wanker rapists who use the N-word despite not being black and inexplicably have A-list guest stars.

Tekashi’s album proves he can’t make albums and that being a loud brazen fuck is his only card.

Some nice production on exactly two tracks.

Bleh.

Earl is out.

Severian 12.02.2018 08:04 PM

BTW: I listened to “Rap God” the other day for no good reason and it was SO bad I had to turn it off because I felt embarrassed to be playing it from my car while driving throuh town.

In 2014 that cunto was still making “you’re so gay” jokes. And those dubstep synths? Oh my god they sound 800 years old. Why didn’t someone tel Em that “H*A*M*” existed and was made three years earlier?

Fuck I hate shitty rap music.

And Drake too. Fuck Drake.

Rob Instigator 12.03.2018 09:20 AM

all the hispanic meth-head rappers suck shit

louder 12.06.2018 01:36 AM

All year end lists this year have nothing to do with music.. yay.

Funny thing is that Tekashi has a strong relationship with Slovakia. A couple years back when he was literally unknown, some guys from a local rap label took notice of him, invited him on feats with some local artists and to play gig here.
These guys said he was a real humble and friendly dude, not having a problem with regular shit like going out for cheap fastfood or sleeping on a sofa in one of the promoters' apartment.
He was just being a chill guy.

Then he came back in the summer of this year as a big superstar to show gratitude:

His music is trash of course, though this story offers a different outlook on his persona than the media is portraying.

That dumb enemy of the people media of which I am a literal card-carrying member. When will they/I learn?

Just kidding. I’ve not paid any attention to Tekashi’s hijinx until recently, and when I said “loud brash motherfucker” or whatever, I was strictly referring to his rapping/shouting/screaming like a nü-metal düfus. Not the public persona of illegal stuff and being a jackass that he’s also cultivated, because, again, I’ve barelt noticed.

First time I paid more than 5 minute of attention to Tekashi was when Kanye did two tracks with him. So... last week.

Daytona is getting some love, and I suspect it might eve *too* Pitchfork’s list (long shot, but maybe, since they did an “Instand Classic” video for it, and they’ve only done that for albums that have landed at #1 or #2 (“DAMN.” and “Blodne,” respectively).

But yeah. Everyone is failing at their jobs.

Kids See Ghosts has appeared on ONE list that I’ve read. Goddamn ridiculousness.

Severian 12.06.2018 08:48 AM

Speaking of lists, I don’t know my favorite all-around albums yet, but I have a pretty good idea about my hip-hop faves:

1. Kids See Ghosts - “Kids See Ghosts”
2. Pusha T - “Daytona”
3. Kanye West - “Ye”
4. Earl Sweatshirt - “Some Rap Songs”
5. JPEGMafia - “Veteran”
6. Vince Staples - “FM!”
7. Noname - “Room 25”
8. Travis Scott - “Astroworld”
9. Fuck I guess BROCKHAMPTON - “Irridescence” (shrug)
10. Fuck I guess Lupe - “Drogas Wave” (shrug)
