Honest and Pluto were the peak of his creativity, but the lukewarm reaction made him step away from that, sadly. The fans wanted him to go back on his "street"/banger stuff from his early days. I'd love him to make an album full of R&B ballads and introspective/emotional songs.. but right now he has a niche and is sticking with it because it works for him (commercially and critically). |

It's G.O.O.D. Friday, y'all!!! |
musicians like what they like. I am talking about the audiences, the fickle fickle audiences which support musicians careers.
I mean, you can "rock" like a shit band called Cowboy Mouth, and if the audience supports you you can tour and tour and tour endlessly. I do not see that happening for the current hip hop acts, but maybe we will see them at the county fair like we see foghat, Peter Cetera, or in the future Sonic Youth? |

I saw Bob Freaking Dylan headline a county fair in Washingon and it was crazy good. Thousands and thousands of people. Not all of them are sad pathetic little piece of shit concerts. Casinos are the real losers' circuit, where you'll see Richard Marx and shit. Sonic Yourh are not popular enough to headline a really big county fair. Not by a long shot. So I strongly doubt we're going to have to worry about that in the future, especially since the chances of Thurston and Kim patching things up seem to grow slimmer by the day. Also, county fairs are huge money makers for the area. I don't think anyone would pick Sonic Youth as an act for something that's supposed to be enjoyable for the whole family. |

As you can tell from the responses, there are lots of ways to interpret this inquiry. My musical core is Sonic Youth, Pavement, Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, PJ Harvey, etc. I'll stretch the range to 2000 through 2016. Here are the bands that have put out more than 2 or 3 very good-to-great records over that time period: Spoon PJ Harvey Radiohead Arcade Fire Deerhunter Tame Impala Broadcast Deerhoof Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti Kurt Vile St. Vincent M83 The Walkmen The National |
All Hands on the Bad One [2000]
One Beat [2002] The Woods [2005] No Cities To Love [2015] Sleater-Kinney also fits nicely in the 2000 through 2016 range!! |
