what is it with theft and bass amps/cabs?

i used to play through a stolen one, some dude stole it from his school, then some guy stole it from him and my ex-guitar player borrowed it, and i used to use it...wonder where it is right now.

demonrail666 08.02.2008 02:12 PM

From what I've heard, there was a period around that time when just about every noise band in London was playing through gear stolen off of James. Must've had their lorry broken into at some point or something. Payback for writing bollocks like 'Sit Down', I suppose.

The funniest incident of gear theft I can recall took place during the Poll Tax riots, when loads of guitar shops on Denmark Street got looted. I never capitalised on it myself but do remember seeing some guy running down the street with a couple of lovely old guitars in his hands. The amount of two-bit punk bands suddenly playing vintage Rickenbackers on stage was a genuine feature of the London scene for a little while.

Just a quick update saying that I've had loads of lists so far and that the top ten is REALLY tight. So if you haven't already done so, pm me your five!!!!

That's kind of my thoughts. I don't know how many people will have in common with me Knife Play and Myra Lee.

hahahaha, this is so hilarious!

----

i bet my allowance loveless will be in the top 10.

hey dr666, how about a top 50 instead?

demonrail666 08.02.2008 07:56 PM

I'm gonna see how it goes in terms of how many people vote. At the moment I have about 50 lists but have found that once you get past say the top twenty you're dealing with albums that were only voted for by sometimes as little as two people - which is a bit pointless really. Twenty should work though.

The Earl Of Slander 08.03.2008 06:00 AM

Having to make it five was excruciating. I've carefully thought over my top 10 to represent everything I love in music (because I'm a massive nerd), and now I have to chop it in half! I still love you Pixies, Dylan, Boredoms, Beatles and My Bloody Valentine! Just you know. Not as much as the others.

atsonicpark 08.03.2008 06:56 AM

Oh I forgot about Loveless. What a boring and dated record to be in anyone's top 5 but oh well.

demonrail666 08.03.2008 07:58 AM

Loveless isn't an album that I've ever had much interest in. I admire it for its impact, and certainly wouldn't call it a 'bad' album, but if anything it seems to have become even more popular over the years. Which, as Atsonicpark, says, is quite odd for an album that has, I agree, dated quite a lot since its release.

atsonicpark 08.03.2008 08:01 AM

My thoughts exactly. I just don't find it very interesting except from a production standpoint. Certainly it's influential but a lot of those songs have always been pretty boring.

demonrail666 08.03.2008 09:31 AM

I have to say that I'm not a massive fan of Isn't Anything, either.

demonrail666 08.03.2008 05:49 PM

Just another reminder that, if you haven't already sent your top five in, the deadline is looming so get them in asap. I'm planning on posting the result around Tuesday or Wednesday, giving as many people a chance to participate as possible.

The list is now even tighter than ever so you really should vote if you can.

Everyneurotic 08.03.2008 11:20 PM

yeah, i figured it get very random after a certain number, would be interested in the top 20.

and i don't care, loveless is one of my favorite albums ever although i didn't put it in my list.

Death & the Maiden 08.04.2008 04:55 AM

My predictions for what will be in the top ten:
Daydream Nation (as well as Sister or EVOL)
The Stooges - Fun House
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico
Joy Division - Unknow Pleasures or Closer
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

atsonicpark 08.04.2008 05:00 AM

I like isn't anything a LOT more. Not boring.

Also... I like Unknown Pleasures a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT more than Closer.

Hmph.

SonicBebs 08.04.2008 05:46 AM

please dont let DayDream be number 1

and please let my list be Not Too Late

pbradley 08.04.2008 05:48 AM

Ugh, I was so confused by "best of all time." So really I cross referenced albums I appreciate existing in general against what I listen to most (as by last.fm's tracking). Anyways submitted.
