the first time, dez sang "rise above"
the second time they played "jealous again", "thirsty and miserable", "fix me" and "rise above". dez singing, sounding like it was 1980 again. |
Judas Priest's most mature and professional album was their first one, Rocka Rolla. Little by little, they went downhill with each album after that, so that by the mid '80s, they looked like a bunch of silly middle-aged men playing childish bubblegum for below-average 10-year olds. Turbo (1985, I believe) makes the first two Partridge Family albums sound like Larks Tongues in Aspic. I'd rather listen to those old LPs anytime.

I think Rocka Rolla's pretty awful, but their best stuff is definitely from the 70s. My favorite is Sad Wings Of Destiny.

turbo is fucking hilarious, last time i saw them play, that was the most fun i had during their set, when they played "turbo lover".

Ramones (though they still had good songs on each album).
I disagee with Television. Of course, Adventure and Television couldn't live up to Marquee Moon, but they're still very good albums, far from bad. |

wow, when they came here, they did absolutely no black flag material, it was jerry/dez/marky lineup, at least one song would have been nice |
Mogwai, unfortunately.

Black Flag for me showed the most rapid decline of any band I like.
I disagree with The Clash. In their short existance (five years from first to last album), they barely put a musical foot wrong. I also disagree with whoever said Pere Ubu. Great start, mediocre middle period and a recent return to greatness. |
guns n roses (duh)

death
obituary morbid angel all early 90s death metal bands that didnt break up in time the greatful dead |
I'm almost loathe to say this, but I'd add Godlflesh to the mix - the first 3 albums are amazing (esp. "Streetcleaner"), but from then on, each new release was a case of diminishing returns.

Philip Best one did a "review" of "Metal Dance", that said "Even with a whore fronting the band, they still can't get into the charts". Ah, them were the days...

Monster Magnet.
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Unsane. |
Primal Scream - they were actually quite OK on the first LP and "Screamadelica", but as for the rest of their oeuvre, well.....
