Half of mine were on there. Much better list than the over-all one. Sad there wasn't any Knife Play, though.
Strokes > Xiu Xiu???? Since when? |

maybe people who watch total request live, but doubtful that people on underground rock message boards havnt at the very least heard the name |
The Strokes are obviously the closet band of a lot of people who post here.
My guess is that they were probably a bit like Pearl Jam for a next generation who heard them on mainstream radio and MTV and then got into the better music that they emulate and therefore maintain a soft spot for what they came by first. I never had that middle ground, because when I was in high school it didn't exist (aside from maybe the Police and U2 of course) it was straight from mainstream radio to Confusion is Sex for me! |
Good to see Lift To Experience make the list, even though it's the only one of mine that did. Did they get many votes aside from mine & Torn Curtain's?
And I'll nth all the props to SYRFox - as a few others have stated, it's a handy catch-up guide given that I've only heard about half of them. Still don't understand why so many people rate Nurse over Murray Street though... |
for me it was nirvana about 10 years ago.
after them straight into SY about 8 years ago, and since 5 years I am diggin leftfield electronica too. somehow thanks to sonic youth |
Nice so see Fennesz high in the list!

You are certainly not alone in that routing. This sound like a great question for a poll! |
but what bands to add to the poll beneath nirvana?
|
Good list, Mr fox.
No Shellac ? I'm surprised, their last one had got good critics on the board when it came out. |
i'm shocked that sonic nurse beat murray st & nycg&f.
only one of choices made it to the top 35. 1) Fushitsusha - I Saw It! That Which Before I Could Only Sense 2) Quasimoto - The Unseen 3) Charalambides - IN CR EA SE Joint 4) King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader & Keiji Haino - Next Let Us Try Changing The Shape Joint 5) Merzbow - Yoshinotsune & Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out 6) Charalambides - Live/Dead 7) Pink Reason - Cleaning The Mirror 8) Striborg - Trepidation 9) Teenage Panzerkops - Harmful Emotions 10) Eddie Marcon - Shining On Graveposts |

If Terraform (NEEDS MORE LOVE!) or At Action Park had come out this decade I would have put on, but 1000 Hurtz just doesn't do it for e in the same way and I haven't got Grayhound yet. 6 of my picks made it, and my entire top 5, so I guess that means my taste is even more in line with the majority of this board than I thought. Great to see Fennesz so high. Makes me feel better about not voting for it (it would be top 15 for me, but not top 10). And yeah, mega plus points for the Boris placing. Oh and totally thumbs up to everyone for putting A Ghost Is Born on instead of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (not to say I have anything against YHF, it's just that AGIB is so brilliant. My number 2). |
Yeah, Terraform rules!
Personally, I think shellac gets worse with every record... but they're still great. |
greyhound is great man...
|
Yeah I know.
|
good #1!
and #25 was nice to see |
Three of mine made it into the top twenty (Nurse, Murray St and Is This It?). I knew my other two wouldn't make it (The Verlaines - Pot Boiler and Ed Kuepper - Jean Lee & the Yellow Dog). I don't understand why people think it's awful that The Stokes were on the list.
