I gotta say I'm not real surprised on this one... makes sense, I guess. I'm just excited about the new record. You know, I was kinda hoping it would be Fat Possum.

yeah, but they also have love of diagrams, lavender diamond (granted, they only had an amazing ep i love dearly but the full lenght was awful), mogwai who have gone pretty much downhill in my opinion since rock action, brightback smelly hippie or whatever they're called, the new pornographers, and i mean actively. the only one right now you mentioned that's in the label now is cat power. fuckers also dropped bardo pond (they didn't sell records, eh? NO SHIT!! you should have known ever since you first listened to them!). anyhoo, independetly of my personal feelings towards matador, no label is god. matador, geffen, same shit for sonic youth. (i don't get me the 'creative freedom" thing, thurston is just goofing around as always...having released a thousand leaves, nycg&f and murray street on a major is pretty much the most freedom any band has enjoyed in a major since the 70's). ---- i was hoping for kiddieriot but, eh, you know... |
Hahaha.
Everyneurotic wins. |
the best record ever released on matador was tful282's "mother of all saints".
|
jeez.. im always the 36th to find out these things!!!
and i am blind as a....have i mentioed that before.. im posting this in braille!! |
Joining Matador seems like a full circle with Gerard Cosloy back in the 1980s when Youth were on Homestead Records... just finished the Browne bio on SY was just wondering the future of SY after the release of Rather Ripped... perhaps now they can really do whatever they want and move towards a new album close to the current noise/psych folk/whatever scene championed by the guys..

NO FUCKING WAY!!! GOOD FOR THEM!! this is great news, matador is a decent label, i hope this helps the band. damn, this was from how long ago? but better late than never. |
I loved Matador.....when I was in like, the 10th grade.

ding-ding give the man his prize money! |
Maybe they can tour with Mission of Burma now.
|
I just read on some website that Sonic Youth's next album is going to be recorded high on weed on a 4 track with acoustic guitars.

That would be a fucking awesome tour. And also would be nice for Burma because apparently they are pretty poor. Roger Miller's been giving guitar lessons in Boston for extra cash. |

I would imagine he could command a pretty massive fee for that. |

Sure, and they could call it "The Freed Youth"... |
I was thinking Guided By Youth.
I also heard they were going to change their name to Crack Concrete and start using wacky synths, quirky vocals, and 2 drummers. |

Don't scare me, they already did that once, and it's not exactly my favorite record. |
Great news. It was thanks to Matador artists (Pavement, Yo La Tengo) that I came to know about Sonic Youth many years ago.
