This thread is just an impression of subconscious ideas generated by Hume. We have accomplished nothing.

Unlike in other threads.:)
( who's Hume? )

atsonicpark 12.28.2008 07:53 PM

R.E. Hume?

ZEROpumpkins 12.28.2008 08:03 PM

How about on Richard D. James Album by Aphex Twin? That was one of the first popular records to use software synthesisers and drum machines.

And just listen to what he did with them :)

David Hume. Founded (didn't found?) the philosophy that every idea/philosophy/abstract is really just the combination of existing elements.

atsonicpark 12.28.2008 08:05 PM

Richard D. James innovative? Nah, not really, but it is amazing.

How isn't it? The only thing that was done before it that sounds like it was Hangable Auto Bulb which was by Rich anyway,

acousticrock87 12.28.2008 08:20 PM

Actually, I was thinking Equation by him was pretty innovative. But it's a sort of shit song.

atsonicpark 12.28.2008 08:29 PM

It came out in 1996. I don't really hear anything too innovative on that record; drum machines played on synths (even if this was SOFTWARE and not hardware, that doesn't really make it all that innovative to listen to) and melodies combined had been around for 20 or so years. Ever heard Kraftwerk? Besides, by that point in Warp's history, they'd already released a lot of innovative stuff... I'd argue that Polygon Window's "Surfing on Sine Waves" was more innovative than the Richard D James album.

I think he has a lot of innovative work; he's a true original and a class act. I just don't see what distinguishes Richard D. James as innovative. I CARE BECAUSE YOU DO had already been released by that point as well.

noisereductions 12.28.2008 08:37 PM

What about ENDTRODUCING... DJ Shadow. THAT IS musical innovation.

atsonicpark 12.28.2008 08:41 PM

it's alright 'cos the historical pattern has shown
how the economical cycle tends to revolve
in a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop
a slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more

bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery

you see the recovery always comes 'round again
there's nothing to worry for things will look after themselves
it's alright recovery always comes 'round again
there's nothing to worry if things can only get better

there's only millions that lose their jobs and homes and sometimes accents
there's only millions that die in their bloody wars, it's alright

it's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing
it's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing

it's alright 'cos the historical pattern has shown
how the economical cycle tends to revolve
in a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop
a slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more

bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery

don't worry be happy things will get better naturally
don't worry shut up sit down go with it and be happy

dum, dum, dum, de dum dum, de duh de duh de dum dum dum... ah ah
dum, dum, dum, de dum dum, de duh de duh de dum dum dum... ah ah

Eli's freestyle was pretty innovative..

“I got one question man, tell me who next? This nigga salt let nigga who duh’ give ‘em the best. See I’m the best mayne, I did it………oh………….ah……..ah…………………..Yo, uh, yeah. Yeah, yo, see imma let you know who best, by the hour just like Rosie O’ Donnel, at a bi-sexual bridal shower. It ain’t nuthin to me man, I keep it fo’ real, look at this detal man with…dent on the grill see…I’m the best, I told you dat, this dude like that he running from the cat. Naw, I messed up but imma stay on top, they told me man but you know, I’m never gonna flop. Look at this dude, he need to stay in the shade, ain’t no wonder why he came out, he already in the gay parade. I told you man, I got you, roastin like ever, yall don’t know, but my rhymes, they straight up clever. So you step down, off the pedestal, I’m the best man, you need to go, to the fucking dental…”

How about the style? Kraftwerk didn't have beats like that, man.

davenotdead 12.28.2008 08:50 PM

is Boadrum innovative?

acousticrock87 12.28.2008 08:52 PM

I don't know. It was too busy melting my face off.

atsonicpark 12.28.2008 08:56 PM

I don't think "beats" represent musical innovativion, except perhaps the stuff venetian snares does. And again, I Care Because You Do already had that kinda stuff. Just wasn't as refined.

atsonicpark 12.28.2008 08:56 PM

Eh. That's up for debate. But I don't care enough to state my case.
