I'm viddying MTV's 120 Minootas one late Sunday evening, and the swishy Brit DJ veck is all govereeting all gushy like about the debut viddy of some band called My Bloody Something, and onto the telly screen pops Only Shallow, and oh my droogies, it is Glorious and Praise to Bog, and Your Humble Narrator practically tolchocks himself into the music-disc store next morning oh pleading and sighing with the clerk-veck behind the counter for that horrorshow disc with the krovvy-colored cover art. I was cured, for sure.

And MBV don't sound anything like any era of SY.

You're right I don't think they sound like SY. And also thanks for the bands I really like shoegazing music I gotta check out those bands.

Best. Post. Ever.

Yeah, it really was.

I think their EPs are the best things that they've released: You Made Me Realise, Glider, Tremelo. I think these are perfect whereas Isn't Anything and Loveless have a few boring songs on them.

In terms of music texture, I'd say they're very similar. MBV were obviously very inspired by Sonic Youth.

i like their earlier more "twee" releases, but those eps are their best later output.

Glice 01.04.2009 05:28 PM

So it's official then, EVERYONE who has ever existed has now expressed an opinion on MBV? Well done, the world.

ZEROpumpkins 01.04.2009 05:29 PM

This thread is getting dramatic.

Ecstacy and Strawberry Wine are great, and I think the Sunny Sundae Smile EP is just perfect! Kevin remixed Paint A Rainbow for some Indiepop compilation, so I hope the EP appears on that EP compilation which he's apparently working-on but which will probably never be released. The Dave Conway-years definitely shouldn't be dismissed on the basis of their first Cramps-like album where he's doing the weird vocals (I enjoy it anyway).

They are in the long run a good band. Who cares if Slowdive are obviously better? Or if they sound like Sonic Youth or not? Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine are two of the biggest bands in the alternative scene so it's no wonder that their fans overlap. I'm a fan of both actually.

dionysusundone 01.04.2009 06:39 PM

Question, when did it become cool to start saying 'alternative' again?

Derek 01.04.2009 07:03 PM

I dunno, I'm just using the word to group together bands.

Apparently not.

Mary Broadwick from Hornchurch, 56 years old: ''What a load of bollocks, I'd rather listen to dear old Tom Jones, at least he knows how to write a tune without sounding constipated''

Ross Moss from Southgate, 68 years old: ''I don't believe this!''

Derek 01.04.2009 07:40 PM

haha!

sarramkrop 01.04.2009 08:01 PM

James, originally from Maidstone, 24 years old: ''Fuck Off!''

His Dog: ''Yeah, Fuck Off! Cunt.''

jennthebenn 01.04.2009 08:16 PM

The dog later complained his quote was taken out of context, however.
