Washing Machine I think might be the most underrated SY record. It has some great songs on it, and while some records are much more consistent with songs, Washing Machine to me is their best sounding album production wise. I love it! I could listen to it all day because of just how great it sounds. Any record ever done there sounds wonderful.

Uhmmm.... Oh but no, the record is really strong. When I first got it I was disappointed, but over time it grew, to the point where it's one of my most listened to Sonic Youth records.

bad moon rising
confusion
daydream nation
sonic nurse
eternal
Dirty
1000 leaves
self-titled
goo

all rank better than washing muchine.

The Eternal only gets discussed more because it's been out recently. How does A Thousand Leaves get more discussed than Washing Machine, or NYCGAF is beyond me. What are you going on about?

Yeah, going by iTunes, the Eternal is the most popular SY album.... this based off of sales I assume. Ya' know it's not their most successful album, but ya' gotta figure it's due to the accessibility of it (via iTunes) at the time of it's release, opposed to the old'en days when the older albums came out.
In all though, I doubt it's sales have exceeded say, Dirty.

I did notice that they put a decent marketing campaign behind the Eternal though.... which was good, and helped (like MySpace and iTunes ads)!

Sounds fucking No-Wave-ish to me, which I'd bet $100 is the point.

A brilliant album that curiously contains the single worst song by any band ever played on any record. You know which one I mean.

evollove 07.31.2009 07:35 AM

You guys really think "Pantie Lies" (the answer; well, my answer) is better than "Junkie's" or "Little Trouble?"

Rob Instigator 07.31.2009 08:39 AM

I enjoy panty lies like a mug

I enjoy little trouble more than I do washing machine the song

I think the lyrics are stupid as fuck and suck the big turd.

I really love WM. It holds a special place in my heart because it was the first record in my vinyl collection. I bought it after hearing 'Unwind' on a free cassette in the NME. 'Unwind' is still one of my favourite SY songs. It's so bloody good!!

WM was the first CD I played in my new car recently. Sounded awesome :p

atsonicpark 01.09.2011 11:30 AM

this album is a riff monster.

Well, I started listening to SY because I heard Washing Machine. At least it was one of the first albums I heard from them.
It is incredible, but there are a few boring tracks, but I mean, all albums got em. ;)

btw, if anyone have a LP-version for sale, let me know!

EVOLghost 01.10.2011 05:33 AM

not in my book.

Agree, it's a strong album all the way through, except that Kim one about underwear.

Plus the amazing otherworldly structure of the song.
