Limp Bizkit is just that: Cheese... Just because you enjoy the Beluga Caviar that is SY; it is not impossible to also enjoy the Cheese that is Limp Bizkit; though probably it is not a good idea to enjoy them at the same time... The presence of one does not automatically negate the the existence of the other... Just because Cheese is a highly-processed, artificial, mass-produced consumer, populist product (i'm referring to the cheese in supermarkets; the slices like Kraft), doesn't mean that it cannot be eaten by whomever so chooses. And just because Beluga Caviar is a highly refined, highly exquisite, difficult-to-prepare piece of haute cuisine; does not mean that it is a necessary part of your daily diet. I know many ghetto kids who did not die from a lack of beluga caviar in their diet...

You are mistaking cheese for shit.

I wouldn't go that far... :) Limp Bizkit actually managed to sell approximately 50 million records so far; so that's a lot of people who will readily disagree with you. I am not using their sales record as a form of validity for their band or their music. I don't even like them at all. It's just that they are pop metal for the nickelodeon crowd. And that does not necessarily make them shit. Although I'm sure i completely dislike them for that; because Pantera managed to get on Spongebob Squarepants without dating Britney Spears. Anyhoo, here's what Bobby Christgau thinks of them:
"Minimal sexism, doody jokes for corporate America, and the best rapping money can borrow ("Rollin' [Urban Assault Vehicle]," "Getcha Groove On"). *" Explanation: A * Honorable Mention is a worthy effort consumers attuned to its overriding aesthetic or individual vision may well like. |

So did fucking Garth Brooks... Limp Bizkit represents everything I hate about America in one backwards turned, red baseball cap. I could find more culture and style on the bottom of my shoe. |
To be honest, I think Garth Brooks isn't that bad of a guy... But what are we talking about anyway? But it's true, America is the land of excess, crass consumerism and capitalism. But it's also the land of rock 'n' roll, baby! If anything; Limp Bizkit is just the collective voice of the youth of America growing up in the 2000s, in the shadow of post 9/11 emasculation...

I just don't understand the reasoning going on here. Why in the world can't I like both? Obviously I love Sonic Youth but I enjoyed that new tune by Limp quite a bit. Right now I'm listening to the Beach Boys. Later on who knows maybe The B 52's. I think the problem with some people is they over analyze the music they're listening to looking for some hidden meaning or message or something else instead of just enjoying the noise being presented... |

So it is ok to like DMB and SY? Or Creed and SY? FUCK THAT LOGIC. That is fucktard logic. It is not ok to like Limp and SY. |
hahahah ^

from now on, every time i'd want to like a band that isn't sy, i promise to ask hevusa for permission
|
I like a few Garth Brooks and Toby Keith songs.
See, my thing is, I like music, PERIOD. I don't base my liking of a band on their fanbase, what they're associated with, etc. I like a band with interesting songwriting, cool riffs, etc. Limp Bizkit has a really cool, interesting sound, that is unique (or, uh, was) and appeals to me. I know that's "Weird" but it also makes life a lot more tolerable, when you can find a cool bass groove or a neat drum beat or something, even in the worst shit ever. |
