Deerhoof - The Free Triple Live Album

It is indeed free! Or, more precisely, available for a name-your-price. Pay something, you bastards. It's 24-bit and everything!

ETA: "The video is an unedited one-shot video of the entire performance, filmed by Beat Halberschmidt as he ambles to and fro behind us while we play: youtube.com/watch?v=1iUuFXKIeNQ "

Hear The Children Sing The Evidence by Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Nathan Salsburg & Tyler Trotter

two twenty minutes songs, mantra style as they call it.
Only briefly listened to it, didn't have the time. But really liked it.
reminds me of that autobiographical song by The Microphones that goes on forever or a laid-back Big Brave

Mono's new album Oath got released today.
It's one of the last albums that was produced by Steve Albini.

The first time I listened to it (while commuting back home in a large traffic jam), it was a bit boring. Then I turned up the volume and had another spin, the road cleared up and realized it's actually quite stunning. One of the better albums they did since a long time.

Listening on headphones now, it's even better

holy cow times two!!!
One album by a Constellation Records related supergroup has been released today, and another has been announced today as a pre-order:

"NO MORE APOCALYPSE FATHER" by WE ARE WINTER’S BLUE AND RADIANT CHILDREN

releases September 13, 2024 on CST Records

Patch One: Lapsteel, Bass, Ghost Drums, Tape Collage, Voice (Ada)
Jonathan Downs: Electric Guitar, Synth, Voice (Ada)
Mathieu Ball: Electric Guitar (Big Brave)

I hope this band will do some touring too

War Milk by PANGEA DE FUTURA

Quote:

Octet supergroup lead by Eric Quach aka Thisquietarmy. Including 3 drummers, guitar, synth & brass players (who also play in bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Exhaust, Hanged Up, Avec Le Soleil Sortant De Sa Bouche & more); Pangea De Futura brings together the merged and emerging territories of Montreal's exploratory music scene.

War Milk is the debut studio album from the supergroup Pangea de Futura, an octet that has been exploring since 2019, the many ways of - slowly - constructing massive textural musical shapes and droning tribal post-rock ambiances. Each track simultaneously encapsulates its structure emerging from and within a flux, alongside its impending entropy, creating a suspended moment. This intense experience is crafted through the combined rhythmic contributions of Aidan Girt, Eric Craven, Samuel Bobony, the merging brass arrangements of Véronique Janosy, Reüel Ordoñez, Neboysha Rakic, the electronic textures provided by Charles Bussières, and the intense drones / soundscapes created by Eric Quach's guitar playing. Eight musicians, involved - in total - in some fifty projects from the Montreal scene (a.o. : Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Silver Mt. Zion, Fly Pan Am, Some Became Hollow Tube, HRSTA, BLD, Black Givre, Avec le Soleil Sortant de sa Bouche...)

Earth, Water, Air, Fire... the genesis of a complex and
perpetually evolving life.
credits

released June 20, 2024 on Sub Rosa Records

So he's got two solo albums ready. Next one next year?

The price of the CD on Bandcamp is incorrect, evidently - it goes for $12 at the Sub Pop Megamart. I think somebody repeated the price of the T-shirt or something.

looking forward to that one !
I in general really hate those misformed vocals, but somehow when Alan does it it still works for me

The Rat Henry LP on Petty Bunco is probably my favourite new release of the year so far, and The Shadow Ring boxset is my favourite archival release.

I've sent Graham Lambkin the full video of his performance at Worse, recently, and he replied that he will send me something through the post, which is nice of him. I'm hoping it's some of his artwork or this box set because I really want it, but money is tight for us at the moment. I'm also looking forward to take some snaps of him, when he comes back from the States.

The boxset is great and it comes with an enourmous book about the Shadow Ring. At first I was skeptical with the way the music has been collected, the CDs are not replications of albums and singles, but a roughly chronological (by recording date) ordering of all their previously released music (excluding the live LP, and The Klaus Canterbury 7" I think), and some previously unreleased, bits and bobs across the approx 10 CDs,
Personally I think 3 CDs of pre-Shadow Ring material is more than is really needed, it could have been boiled down to 1 CDs worth and it would have been fine. But ultimately that's not really important. I was curious to hear how the music all sounded with a remastering but having listened now I don't have much to say about it, which is probably a good thing. I'd have to play the new versions side by side with old ones to see exactly how different they are, which I may do to at some point in the nearish future as I'm off work with a broken arm and have the rare treat of time to kill.
