The cover in itself is superb, and the sticker didn't ruin it at all. It matched the picture in a beautiful way.
The sticker was orange, round, with the Christian Death cross and bones, and a short text saying : "contains the hit"; the hit not being mentioned. I don't have this album any longer so may be wrong about the text.

I dig Cramps covers (a Date with Elvis, Look Mom, Psychedelic Jungle) and Nick Cave's (Tender Prey, From Her).

Honestly don't know how I forgot this one, probably my overall favourite album cover...

I'd buy that record on the strength of the cover. Who is it? Hopefully someone I hate to prove my point.

sarramkrop 03.30.2008 12:51 PM

Yes, that's indeed a superb cover.

I don't know for sure, but the url says it's by UNKLE.

I would say the same reason you find it boring (the Animals cover) is why I find it so lovable. It says mid-60s rock, to me.

A quick Google confirms that you're not wrong. I shan't be picking that record up, as I can't abide that band, but that's some amazing artwork. Well done UNKLE!

and just about every album that came out on Blue Note Records.

Yeah it's from UNKLE's new album War Stories, its an utterly superb album, and a very different sound to any of their previous efforts. It features vocals from Josh Homme, the Duke Spirit and Ian Asturbury from The Cult, which is pretty cool. I beleive the artwork is done by '3-D' from Massive Attack...

I have to say that I find the IN RAINBOWS cover to be boring as all fuck, and that it looks like a band that ran out of ideas for their imagery. BORING

I love outer space.

I'm far from the biggest Morrissey fan, but this is a pretty cool cover.

Rob Instigator 03.31.2008 02:32 PM

the gatefold vinyl is sweet in that it has the full Tommy Gun.

Not an album, but goddamn, I love this alternate Spanish cover for this single.

agreed, I do love the cover for his polygon window record surfing on sine waves though. also on a beach tip add on the beach by neil young. james brown in the jungle groove (no beach involved here), end hits by fugazi (not a great record at all but a truly beautiful cover I'm sure you'll all agree), outkast stankonia, bitches brew is obvs' amazing and all those kitschy easy listening covers from oxfam. virtually every jazz record ever has an amazing cover and makes most rock iconography look silly and dully unimaginative (although i do love the uk cover of the first strokes album), seripop are really great though and must be the exceptions that prove the rule.
I can't face trying to dredge up examples to post here, sorry.

therealglenstyler 07.03.2009 09:35 AM

oh my god someone just posted the polygon window cover up as i was writing my post!!! oooohhhweee (am i the only one that thinks that spooky?)

demonrail666 07.03.2009 09:54 AM

It's not an album cover but the sleeve for their 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now', single. Still absolutely brilliant though.

He he, I was reading your mind. The art inside the albums was also good, really liked the early Warp covers by the Designers Republic.

This has to be one of my favourite album covers of all time as well as one of my favourite albums of all time. Swish.

Another LP I'm proud to have in my collection. Beautiful photo. It can't really be appreciated fully at this size, and the colours are a bit off on this scan. Oh well.

Mmm-mmm.

It's Paul Simon in a hood, and you'd do well to listen to that album.
