Yeah, me too.
All these new new New-Wave bands are really boring. Always the same sounds, rythms, bass lines, way of singing... |
I totally agree man, it's like:"
"Ooh, look at us we're so quirky and cool cuz we have old sounding keyboards" Whoever brings back the 80's needs to be sodomised with a sharp, sharp pole. |
dead can dance are pretty disappointing.
|
I think the Cure were pretty disappointing to me.
Because a lot of people with great tastes like them, but the only album I can slightly get into is Boys Don't Cry (or whatever it's called in England), because it has some Wire and PiL references on it. They have a few stray amazing songs ("Just Like Heaven" and "Love Song" -- while overplayed -- are undeniably classic) but their albums bore me to tears, especially Pornography. I don't think they're awful, I just was kinda disappointed. |
MC5. I have Kick Out The Jams, I love the title track, but the rest bores me. I only listened to it a few times, and that was a while ago, so I need to give it another listen.
|
The Cure was disappointing when I first heard them. I was told they were like The Smiths, so I should definitely like them. They didn't sound like The Smiths, so I was disappointed. Then one day I bought Three Imaginery Boys, Seventeen Seconds and Pornography because they were very cheap, I was no longer disappointed after hearing those.

Same goes for New York Dolls. |
Richard Hell & The Voidoids - Blank Generation
noodly stupid rock for a noodly stupid time. |
The first band that comes to mind is Battles......I couldn't even get through the third song.
|
whatever your new band is.
|
yea, ive always hated the cure.
second mc5, one brilliant, radical, genre defining record of which us probably the most influential live record ever, and then 3 shit ablums of which got more boring with every ablum. can anyone think of dissapointing jazz artists? its hard to say, because the good ones are always sooo fucking good. im gonna hold my breath and say ornette coleman. free jazz and the shape of jazz to come are twop of my favorite records ever, but i really dont think "free jazz" really fits his style. he definitley isnt as wild as the other free jazz legends like sun ra, cecil taylor, albert ayler, and others. i think hes genius and amazing, but no more "free" or "avant" then john coltrane. |
Killing Joke. ( 1st lp )
Where does their great reputation comes from? |
Quote:
you know the ORIGINATOR will never be as "wikld" and "out there" as his PROGENITORS, right? mnusic has to belistened to in context man! compare Coleman's work with the hard bop mainstays and cool jazz of the time, and it is FREE and it is MINDBLOWING |
he is "arguably" the original free jazz artist, and yes i love him. but he is always described as being so fucking insane, and to me he is just not so.
|
because you have heard the "insane" stuff that has come as a result of HIS insane stuff. don't you see?
context man. context. |
Quote:
er... |
yeah i get you, context, doesnt change the fact that the way he is described in bios and shit greatly exagerates his style. just my opinion.
|
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Rather Ripped yet....
|
I like Rather Ripped.
|
rather ripped isnt a band, or are they?
|
The dissappointing thing about them is that they don't exist.
But somehow they already have three songs on myspace and are signed to a major label. |

Yeah fucking THIS for sure. I mean, the exciting thing about those old bands was that most of them sounded completely different. And y'know, same goes for the 'post-punk' revival. Too many ripping off Joy Division (badly) not enough ripping off PiL or Killing Joke orTubeway Army or or or... |
A few major ones off the top of my head:
Depeche Mode: I don't hate these guys as much as I used to, but they're still somewhat disappointing. Somone recommended them to me about two years ago since I was heavily into The Cure at the time, and yeah, this just wasn't doing it. Again, I don't hate them as much as I used to. I can enjoy the odd single from them every now and then. Dead Can Dance: Thought they'd be similar to the Cocteau Twins. Some of their stuff is sonically impressive, but overall it's just way too bombastic sounding for my liking. Animal Collective: Rob put this one perfectly. They're pretty interesting when they can get their shit together, but too much filler keeps me away from listening to a full album of theirs. I still like Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished, though it's technically credited to Avey Tare & Panda Bear. Refused: I was quite excited to get The Shape of Punk to Come since my friend loves it (I usually trust his taste) and I thought the Ornette Coleman reference was neat. Immense disappointment. I'm not sure what the big deal about this band is. They just sound like a watered-down Fugazi with a shitty vocalist. |
Quote:
I have to agree with that. That voice is like fingernails on the chalkboard. |
Huh.
Refused are awesome. 'New Noise' is one of the best songs ever. |

DCD have a few good songs... but they're the scum on the bottom of Cocteau Twins' shiny leather boot imo. Another band I just thought of is The Decemberists. A friend of mine who shares a relatively similar taste in music was/is OBSESSED with them. He even got this big ugly tattoo of a squid on his upper right arm that represents the band or something. I figured they were worth a shot if he was so in love with them. I listened to two of their albums. There was one song that I liked quite a bit actually. It was the only song out of both albums that I liked at all in fact. |
the only squid I like is on They Might Bee Giants APOLLO 18
|
Tattoo it on yourself!!!

BURIAL
what is the fuss all about? i don't get it |
burial has a fuss? :(

How can anyone be disappointed in Joanna Newsom? It's obvious that it was gonna be boring fucking SUCK
|
Joanna Newsom
Oh god another musician that is acid to my ears. |
I had no idea who she was going in... I had just heard good things about her. I don't even think her music is boring so much as I think it's forced and unlistenable.
|
Her voice, ugh.
|
long live the harp hippies I guess
|
joanna newsom is actually highly talented and makes good music, but it's not something i'd want to put on all the time. it's got its moments, it's not AWFUL, it's just not something worth extended/repeated plays.
|
I never said her music was AWFUL. Just unlistenable :)
I'm sure she plays the harp just fine. |
Didn't say you said that. Just sayin'.
|
I still think she sucks. But what do I know. I don't listen to what the cool kids listen to.
