I made a huge bet!

Now you may guess how mad I am, it won't even be that... To make it even more cruel, I haven't seen the game...

Gotta see the 1 hour resume on TV tonight to simmer down...
I like that player...

Hope he beats Platini's Euro goal scoring record to bring points to my reshaped bemused team...
But that won't happen, will it?
Anyway I don't care..., I won the Premier League championship by 178 points.
Should have sticked with the Gerbils label.
I'll pout.

he, don't tell me, every single player I considered and then "discarded" is getting amazing results this metchday...we'll see how things develop, but I've a feeling I'll get transfers frenzy quite soon...

o o o 06.10.2008 01:56 PM

It's a shame, with 4 more goals by Villa, I could have overtaken pokkeherrie...

Congratulations to PAULYBEE for picking not only Villa, but also Fabregas as captain... Quite a successful game for your fantasy team...

o o o 06.10.2008 01:59 PM

Hmm... All the favourites seem to have had a succesful start in the tournament apart from the two world cup finalists...

GrungeMonkey 06.10.2008 03:14 PM

i think spain and holland are looking particularly strong... though id like to see fernando torres playing a full game and getting some goals next time please!

my subs have been made (deadline tomorrow before the games!!!)

now the game is truly on!!

still cant get over pokkeheirres being ranked 22 worldwide and 1 in his country!! thats fucking stunning opening gameweek performances!!!

PAULYBEE2656 06.10.2008 04:00 PM

and i won my first round head to head match by 5 points!!!

edit... ON YOUR ASS POKKHIERRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HECKLER SPRAY 06.10.2008 05:03 PM

Sweden 2
Greece 0

Bertrand 06.10.2008 07:30 PM

All right, I've seen the games and I'm back to my normal, well-mannered self.
Spain was brilliant and won over a creative Russia.
Sweden and Greece weren't as impressive.
I'd like seeing Russia making it.

HECKLER SPRAY 06.11.2008 04:45 AM

I've got doubts about their points allocation, for example, Puyol just gained 2 points, Mutu 1 point, Van Der Vaart 3 points...
They want me to lose !!! I'm pretty sure !!!
I must admit my frenchies were crapy...

thing is, the point allocation is not linked to the quality of the game played by the player or his team, but is solely based on statistics:

Quote:

For playing in a game: 1
For playing at least 60 minutes in a game (includes playing points mentioned above): 2
For each goal scored by your goalkeeper or defenders: 6
For each goal scored by your midfielders: 5
For each goal scored by your forwards: 4
For each goal assist: 3
For your goalkeeper conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes): 4
For your defenders conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes): 4
For your midfielders conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes): 1
For every penalty save: 5
For every penalty miss: -2
For every 2 goals conceded by your goalkeeper or defenders: -1
For every yellow card: -1
For every red card (includes any yellow card points): -3
For every 3 saves: 1
Man of the match: 3

Just in case you had not seen this...

HECKLER SPRAY 06.11.2008 06:46 AM

I didn't noticed there were negative points, shit....
And I suppose that the man of the match is picked by the UEFA.

pokkeherrie 06.11.2008 09:33 AM

I dropped about 3,000 places in the overall ranking yesterday. Everybody who had Villa and/or Fabregas went straight past me. Even worse, my 30 points lead in the Sonic league has almost completely disappeared as well. ¡Ay, caramba!

Like Bertrand I did think about going for Villa for a while (had him in the team, but eventually couldn't afford both him and Klose anymore and added Petric instead). I was aware that Villa was the most important goal scorer for Spain (and not Torres), but there were some reports last week that Aragones might be playing with just 1 striker instead of 2, and then picking Torres over Villa. Didn't want to take that risk... I can't really complain though, because I almost dropped Pepe too, but kept him in and he brought in 15 points.

Anyway, after that hattrick I think it's safe to presume Villa will play now. :)

So that's one transfer. Still thinking about the other ones. Deco has got to go for sure; too expensive for a midfielder that doesn't score much. But the others... Will the Italian defence be better the next game? Does Ribery deserve another chance? Bring in Kuyt now or will Van Persie be starting the next game? Is Klose looking good? Is Modric looking good? (I haven't been able to watch much of the games so far, mostly just the highlights).

nicfit 06.11.2008 01:22 PM

too much cech in our league.

the ikara cult 06.11.2008 01:58 PM

When i was considering bothering with this David Villa was my no.1 striker choice! Shows how much i know.
Is Bertrand eating all of you alive like he did in the Premiership season?

the ikara cult 06.11.2008 02:02 PM

Oh yeah, if youre following the tournament and you havent yet heard this, The Guardian have a brilliant football podcast which theyre doing daily from Euro 2008. You can also listen to archived editions from the course of the season, its very entertaining. :)

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/s...footballweekly

Bertrand 06.11.2008 05:10 PM

I'm not eating anyone alive, alas, hungry PAULY, pokkeherrie, o o o, jico., Thousand Threader were starving, they didn't leave much.

I saw Portugal beat the Czech today. The Eastern team seemed better than during their first game but couldn't keep playing well too long. Past the first hour, a big gap appeared on their left flank, and it took a few tries for the Portugese to take advantage of it. I was surprised Brückner didn't see it coming. They'll have to watch that point out against Turkey if they wanna to go to the quarters.

Now, will Scolari (heading to Chelsea after Euro) rest his players against Switzerland? The hosts haven't got a single point, their best scorer's injured and they are the first team to be out. Some blow.

Who to keep in a team when that team is already qualified?

o o o 06.11.2008 05:22 PM

I think I'll go watch the Turkey - Czech Republic game in Kreuzberg, should be fun... Although I did not quite understand what happens if there is a draw: same goal difference, same number of goals, which team qualifies to the quarterfinals? On television, the mentioned penalty kicks, but that sounds like a mistake.

GrungeMonkey 06.11.2008 05:28 PM

aha! much better today...
things are looking up, klose had better get himself some goals!

█████████ 06.11.2008 05:31 PM

i really enjoyed today's victory, the czechs were just defending and waiting for mistakes...

deco did a great game today, clearly the man of the match, not ronaldo.

pokkeherrie 06.12.2008 06:41 AM

Ugh, I won't write anything about my transfer motivations anymore; it will only make me look stupid. I got rid of Deco and within two hours he gets a goal and an assist. Nice one, pokkeherie!

Oh well, luckily o o o transfered him out too...
I Couldn't see the game, but Portugal really seem to be one of the strongest teams in the tournament so far.

nicfit 06.12.2008 08:47 AM

I made some transfers and I looked myself in the mirror and said: "what the hell are you doing?"
the funny thing is that the mirrored image replied "mind your own business, fool!".
Then for a second there I pictured in my mind the image of how I'd look in a mr-t mohawk, then some flashes from the battle between B.Kiddo and the crazy 88.
Must be the fever.

Bertrand 06.12.2008 09:18 AM

These last messages made me picture the Fantasy Coaches in a pub, every one at a specific place, pokkeherrie mumbling to himself, nicfit facing the mirror, not noticing I'm by his side, trying to find a clue in the peanuts bowl, and PAULYBEE dancing in the middle of the room, with everybody turning his back on him not to notice such joy, while GrungeMonkey and his lookalike plot in a dark corner of the pub, enjoying their recent Portugese income. And everyone becoming mesmerized by the TV when the clock hits 18 and 21.

nicfit 06.12.2008 09:21 AM

There's a lack of nice women in that pub :D!!

Bertrand 06.12.2008 09:32 AM

All we have for affection is a jet-lagged Bulldog.

pokkeherrie 06.12.2008 09:36 AM

So it really is true, Italian men are always checking themselves in the mirror!

Yesterday I went to see High on Fire, the night before that Melt Banana. I think I'll stay in and watch the football tonight.
Tomorrow's the big game though:

French fried!
(hopefully...)

o o o 06.12.2008 09:46 AM

Squeezed orange?

Hmm... that picture is violent...

nah, just a couple times a night, just to make sure we're not vampires.

█████████ 06.12.2008 09:51 AM

i'm sorry to tell this to the french people, but your team is going home with 1 point.

So it looks like there will be indeed penalty kicks in case of a draw.

Shame about Deco, I hesitated a lot before transferring him and had planned to bring him back in the team later on... I hope the new recruit will do even better.

I really need to use my wild card this time, or I will suffer during this second round.

Well, if they keep playing like they did on Monday, yes.

Another possibility would be that they manage to have three 0-0, be eliminated and Domenech to say "We did a very good tournament: we did not lose a game".

Well, I guess we'll soon know about their actual chances of doing something in this tournament. I hope they can come up with something a bit more exciting tomorrow.

pokkeherrie 06.12.2008 10:45 AM

We'll see... If Van Basten's tactics work out well and Domenech' horoscope is looking good then it could go either way.

I'd be satisfied with that 0-0 draw tomorrow, but France are in a less comfortable position right now.

PAULYBEE2656 06.12.2008 01:02 PM

first the italians screw me up and now the germans!!! gah!!! deep thinking about my next 4 substitutions....

cmon the dutch and spanish.......

█████████ 06.12.2008 01:11 PM

yes, that's their coach.

pokkeherrie 06.12.2008 03:03 PM

That German defence wasn't very impressive today. I didn't see their first game so I don't know if they were really tested there, but the duo Metzelder and Mertesacker didn't look very good in central defence and neither did Lehmann... and Jansen was terrible. They still should qualify for the quarter finals without problems though.

As for the other game: OFFSIDE! That Polish goal was a REAL* offside goal!
I can't believe how Austria managed to miss those 3 chances in a row...

*unlike Van Nistelrooij's, you fools! :)

nicfit 06.12.2008 03:08 PM

Just to let you all know how good I am at this game, I didnt buy villa coz I decided to keep.... SCHWEINSTEIGER!! (add thunders' sound effect and some light flashing).

pokkeherrie 06.12.2008 03:17 PM

If it's any consolation, I kept Klose as my captain this round... It's good that they showed the starting line-up before the match or else I probably wouldn't even have noticed he was on the pitch!

I thought that red card was a bit harsh. There was a lot of frustration in the German team though.

nicfit 06.12.2008 03:29 PM

Yes, a yellow card would have been much more fair..had he been booked already or was that a "direct red card"? Can't remember. btw, it's obviously a conspiration set up by some of our leaguemates....
