When he was talking to the dead charred guy, yes that was very creepy. I agree. Don't get me wrong I loved that scene, and besides begins and the dark knight, the original batman is awesome and was obviously has the nostalgiac element to it.
I would actually say the pencil thing is less gruesome. I don't think that's the scene I was compare the buzzer scene to though. I would compare it to the scene with gambol (the ghetto banger). Which I thought was just as dark and creepy as the scene talking to the corpse. why so serious? |
nolan creates better tension
|
Yea definately had good atmosphere. That's why I like the penguins. God the Catwoman's acting though. Ugggh
|
Burtons movies were pretty shitty to the source material though, AND in returns...Batman goes "are you ok?" after hitting catwoman during a fight just because she's a girl....
haha |
Yeah.. also.. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in EVERY Batman film (maybe not Begins -- I don't remember), Batman intentionally reveals who his secret identity is to someone.
That's not accurate to the source material at all :( |
I mean someone who isn't Alfred or whatever.. people like Vicky Vale, Catwoman, that chick that Nicole Kidman plays, etc.
|
Burton in my opinion, has made some very bad movies. Planet of the Apes, Corpse Bride, Sweeny Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow. I like Beetlejuice, Batman, Mars Attacks, Nightmare bfore christmas and Edward Scissorhands even though I think they are both very overrated by hot topic kids
|
Well in The Dark Knight he doesn't, but I'm pretty sure the Joker, Harvey Dent, and this one other guy figure it out over the course of the movie.

I can't say I disagree |
I don't think Burton ever made a good movie besides Batman and Pee-Wee.
|
Oh yeah I forgot about Pee Wee, which was definately good, but in a very rediculous way. Pee Wee was like my favorite person when I was a kid
![]() You didn't like Beetlejuice though? Or Nightmare Before Christmas? |
i heard steven seagal is going to play the joker in the next batman movie.
|
WHOA, I forgot that Burton made peewee....
That solidifies my "peewee herman hand buzzer" comment about the Joker I made a few pages back. Take it to the bank. Seems burton gets a good idea and re-hashes it in every movie, rather than stay true to source material. |
[sigh] when did pee wee use a hand buzzer?

Batman Begins is just OK. Anyone who considered it the best Batman film ever was retarded. The Dark Knight is way way better though. |

He makes Rachel aware of it by repeating to her what she herself told, Bruce: "It's not who you are underneath, but what you do, that defines you" For the record Both 'Begins' and 'Knight' have flaws in the editing department, but are pretty much equal in quality. I prefer 'Begins' as a movie, but 'Knight' as an idea. Quote:
...Ed Wood, Beetle Juice and Edward Scissorhands. |

But is that strictly necessary? Maybe it's okay to go off on a tangent from the source if it makes for a better story/movie, no? |
^^ true but I dont think it was the case for burtons films. in my opinion at least..
Batman Begins wasn't the greatest batman film, but it was the set up to the greatest batman film! It needed to leave you wanting something more, because it was an origin story, he wasn't established yet. |

That movie was full of silly gadgets and such, remember the magic shop? |
ed wood is great... batman is pretty great... edward scissorhands and big fish are good
|
Yes, don't overlook Ed Wood. I had to leave a few minutes ago if I was going to The Dark Knight tonight.

What's the very best time and day to go to a movie theatre to avoid crowds? I'm thinking an early afternoon matinee on Tuesday or Wednesday?

You said hand buzzer |
How is everyone overlooking the nightmare before F-ing christmas? True it's image has been horribly tarnished by Hot Topic. But I remember going to the movies back in those days and coming out of every movie like, ah, that was pretty good. But I came out of Nightmare before christmas going HOLY CRAP that was awesome!!
it was so stupid when hot topic started putting Jack Skellington's face all over everything. Hats, backpacks, cd wallets, fanny packs, a million t-shirts, steering wheel covers, air fresheners and all the other garbage goths throw their money away to buy. I know a girl who has like, everything I just mentioned literally, drives a car with the steering wheel cover, has the bumper sticker on her car, wears the hat with his face. Of course if you have a good memory, Jack Skellington's face was in the movie Beetlejuice |
i didnt think it was that awesome
|
I never dug it. & whatever with the hand buzzer fuck you, you know what I meant. Key word, silly, not handbuzzer.
|
Tim Burton has made me sick with repeating his now campy style in every movie of his that I've seen. I can't even watch movies I originally liked by him like Beetlejuice or Edward Scissorhands. I am not a fan.
|
OH i totally forgot he did ed wood
One of my favorite films ever even... well, in the top 50 or so. Thank you guys. |
the nightmare and ed wood are masterpieces; beetlejuice, edward scissorhands and mars attacks (among a few others i'm forgetting) are great.
the rest rank amongst the worse movies to ever be released by major picture studios. |

Like Sweeney Todd. The worst shit ever. |
ohh man, i still can't believe i saw it in a theater.
i clapped when helena bonham carter's character dies, and by "clapped" i mean i gave a standing ovation. |
I was like, god what is this crap. I hardly go to the bathroom, but I left several times.
|
I saw the movie tonight, I feel really disappointed, it didn't feel like a Batman movie at all :(
|
To each his own.
|
Well I thought it was a very well made film and a lot of parts in it were definitely solid but the reason why I liked the Batman films and not other superhero movies is because I totally dig the whole atmosphere that the whole franchise portrays.
It just seemed like this movie and Batman Begins were completely removed from the Batman world and put into a normal world, which I hated. I also didn't like the music score at all, they should have just stuck with Danny Elfman's score that he did for the other films. They definitely did not pull Two Face off as well as they should, his character was very one dimensional I thought. Whatever, no one will agree with me hahaha. |
I agree about the normal world thing, but that's what nolan was going for. It's not exactly like our world but it's close. 'Heightened realism'
That said, the elfman theme would be silly in a film like this, it was good for back then but the whole superhero cliche theme song (usually elfman does em all) has lost its appeal to me at least. Begins was definitely more influenced by Blade Runner and The Dark Knight by Heat. The subtley of the music works for that in my opinion. It's more personal, especially the nods to the cohen brothers style where the music just fucking cuts out and leaves you in the moment. It's just two takes on a character that has MANY incarnations. I thought two face was great...would you rather have tommy lee jones again? |
I can see where you're coming from, maybe I'm just clinging onto my Batman childhood haha.
And I didn't mind Tommy Lee Jones for the simple fact that he played his role true to the source material. |
No he didn't.
Two face always obeyed his coin. Tommy Lee Jones didn't. & Two Face wasn't a cackling cunt/pun making joker wannabe. the worst thing about those two movies looking back, is that riddler and two face are both over the top and eccentric just like jacks joker, except that riddler and two face aren't eccentric characters. (minus the riddlers 60s show suit) |
Sorry I liked them when I was a kid too but now looking back the only one I dont hate is Batman 89.
Im posting too much in this thread. |
