i actually got mildly pissed off, since she's so much hotter than him |
So how about that HOOM then?

Certainly, I don't go two weeks without crying. |
Listening to it now. Sounds great this far, but I'm still on disc 1.
|
If Joanna Newsom decided to write, produce and star in an "alternative" porn film and soundtrack it.... what would it be like?
|
annoying

Ah, we are going to talk about The Artist And Her Work again? One can only hope, because frankly, this thread for the most part has severely disappointed me. I thought SNY Gossip was so much better than this embarrassment of a thread. But I digress. "...less epic than Ys...." Couldn't disagree more! Otherwise a decent article though. Thanks for posting it. I'll NEVER listen to Ys again. HOOM is light years ahead of Ys in every conceiveable way. I'll try to come up with a decent review sometime, once I've fully immersed myself in the whole work, if I become convinced that this thread gets semi serious..... |
I had the misfortune of hearing this this other day.

Expand, please. I'm not angry if people hate this, and explain why. That interests me. (My wife hates it!) |
The first disc is my favorite by far. The first tracks of disc 2 and 3 are wonderful. Baby Birch is my current obsession.
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HER ON APRIL 2ND. |

I've decided that this is the greatest album ever.
Y'all think I'm muthafuckin kidding don't you? Well, I'm not. |
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Skuj again.
|
the album was so moving it prompted me to write a hiaku
nut over her face, joanna newsom, she likes dog wang. harpsichords and watnot, face nuttin', peanuty diarheaa, joanna newsom. as you can see its so great it replicates itself indefintely |

Well, I don't know if you are being serious or not..... But I completely agree with what you have said. I thought this forum was so much better than this thread, and the fact that I find this album to be Monumental makes this hurt even more. Fuck it I'm done here, hahahaha. Seriously. This is not the forum that I thought it was. Cheers SNY Gossip. It was fun while it lasted. |
bwahahaa did i get rid of skuj?
1 down, many many more to go. |
Quote:
i wrote you a leaving hiaku to celebrate. skuj, listening to joanna newsom's new album, all 3 cd's lined up to be heard with no breaks, cannot make it more than 3 minutes in, without dreaming about me, face nuttin on joanna, then peanutty diarheaa surprise, its like a kinder surprise, only more organic. because it comes from my anus. |

Skuj's posts on here are the funniest of the board. What a hilarious guy. There's no way he was seriously that up in arms over such an awful album..
...right? |
Guess he was.
|
She's smart and talented, but she's basically just a poor man's version of Noe Venable and I'm not a poor man
|
If I wanted to hear half-brain-dead-child warbling I would listen to teh disney radio station.
or just remmeber to pay attention when I am plowing Regina Spektor. |
I lied. I came back to torment you all.
You motherfuckers, HOOM is fuckin monumental. 2-3 months later I am still bowing to it's greatness. |
Yes!
|
Joanna Newsom is shit, let's not forget.
|
so is this album any good? I heard it is from one guy, but he's a former pseudo-elitist so I don't know for sure
|
I like it. A lot. It's a nice midpoint between the short songs of her debut and the sprawl of Ys (which I love), and it's also more mature and direct than either I feel. Her voice has only got better. I don't know which I prefer of this and Ys quite yet. Need to listen more.

I agree. One of my favorite albums of the year this far. |
I used to love Ys. Now I can't listen to it. HOOM is lightyears ahead of Ys.
I really love that she put 6 songs per disc, even though this could have been a 2CD vice 3CD. She made 3 superb 40ish minute albums here, each with amazing ending songs especially. My only quibble (no album is perfect) is having the title song as CD1 track 2. It needs to be on much later, CD2 or 3. Where it sits, it's a bit of a hurdle before you are properly warmed up. I cannot think of 1 song here that is weak, or that I want to skip. |
I love Joanna Newsom. Can not stand this album. I don't have 120 minutes to dedicate solely to harps and strangled kittens.

I don't understand how anyone could love, say, Ys and then say that about this. I mean sure, it's a very different album tonally, I think perhaps a better one, not sure yet, but the essentials of long songs with harp and that voice aren't HUGELY different from her earlier work... |
On a side note, In California is my favourite song on the album right now. Amazing.
|
I appreciate Ys ability to be on one cd.
