I second your sentiments.

Please let's get back on topic.
- What's your position in the league table?
- Have you made any substitutions or transfers?
- Do you think your team will move up or down the ranks during the next few days?
-...

demonrail666 06.14.2010 02:10 AM

OK, yeah. Point taken.

I just found out today that we are supposed to make substitutions during the rounds!

Haha, NOW I understand why we had to select so many players, I thought it was ridiculous to select 23 when you can only play 11... as a result of that I have no less than 6 players with a value of 1 in my squad, in order to fund some big stars (a la Real Madrid). Guess that will make the decision to bring substitutions or not a lot easier!

I'm 4th in the league. Not surprised that o o o and Bertrand are on top. They always do well in this kind of thing.

Beautiful Plateau 06.14.2010 05:36 AM

I'm ambitious.

I'm currently third :p and expecting to become #1 or 2 after all teams have played their first match.

pokkeherrie 06.14.2010 09:14 AM

Good luck!
(I've yet to see a SYG World Cup/Euro fantasy football game that wasn't won by o o o.)

!@#$%! 06.14.2010 01:26 PM

game time! go paraguay!!!

(and thanks demoņo for the deletion)

Beautiful Plateau 06.14.2010 03:57 PM

ouch and ouch!

1 mediocre and 1 bad result for my team today. I might drop out of the top 10. :(

That substitution thing tricked me. I was completely wrong about it.
I'll try to understand how it works when the window for it is open (which never seems to the case for me). I understand better when I manipulate things.
Not that I should ashamed now.
51 points with just three players...

(transfer transfer transfer fellow player transfer or lag behind but I could be a liar)

I don't understand the substitutions thing. I did some yesterday and lost all my points so I've effectively had to start again. :(

o o o 06.14.2010 04:37 PM

yes, i also found out late that we were supposed to make substitutions during the rounds, and that only the 11 players "on the pitch" actually gather some points...

but it has not really had a negative impact on my team, i think, as it actually allowed to correct some bad choices... it's just that i am now hesitating to make further substitutions for the last games of the round, as it is some sort of gamble, and i am stuck with Lukovic and his 0 points in my 11 (he was sent off against Ghana)!

Rob Instigator 06.14.2010 04:38 PM

the whole website is quite counter-intuitive.

substitutions opne again at midnight south africa time, which is in 22 minutes or so.

hah! I'm second best of our League. Seems like most managers have already "used up" most of their positions. I still have three positions that can score points... Watch out o.o.o. !

Rob Instigator 06.15.2010 08:51 AM

I still got 4! coming up from 36th place damnit!

PAULYBEE2656 06.15.2010 12:15 PM

these substitution rules are really confusing.... i thought it was a simple thing.... oh well...onward and upward and onward we go!

pokkeherrie 06.16.2010 06:27 PM

Weird, I substituted Luis Fabiano for Xavi yesterday and confirmed it, but now today Luis Fabiano is back in my team.
Anyone else had something like this happening?

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, because one had 3 and the other had 4 points...

Rob Instigator 06.17.2010 09:04 AM

you need to make sure you are doing substitutions for the current roundma nd not for round 2.

it is tricky. substitutions open in 8 hours again.

PAULYBEE2656 06.18.2010 12:36 PM

fucky fucky fuck...klose red card! and used my transfer!! god damn it to hell!!!! still in top tho! result!

chicka 06.19.2010 11:56 AM

Moving up all the time. I've got the substitution down finally and even made a transfer but he may just sit as my midfielders have had quite a second round. Biggest mistake was taking Milito as Maradona doesn't even play him.
Next free transfer he's gone. Another stinker is Buffon being gone for Italy with Howard having a stinker in the second round it would have been nice if Buffon was available to replace him

Bertrand 06.20.2010 03:16 AM

The third game is always puzzling when a team made good and won its two first matches.
Some managers rest their best players (or those who've been yellow carded).
I have no idea what Maradonna and Baart van X will do and ask myself : should I keep the same Dutch players?
Will Maradonna rest Higuain and give Milito some action?

pokkeherrie 06.20.2010 06:34 AM

Van Marwijk has hinted towards the press that he'll start with the same team. Plus he's really not the kind of coach to switch around with his first team much at all.

Perhaps one or two players will get rested. Van Persie is not looking 100% fit for instance and there are 3 players on a yellow card (including Van Persie).
Maybe Elia/Affelay/Huntelaar will be given more playing time and perhaps we'll even see Robben come on in the second half.

Right or not, but in Dutch media, the whole "resting the first team"-thing is often mentioned (together with Boulahrouz' prematurely born child's death) as one of the main reasons for the quarterfinal fiasco at Euro 2008.

I just took out 13 points worth of players out of my fantasy team, so my substitutes better not disappoint me!

Bertrand 06.20.2010 07:22 AM

Thanks!

Van Persie was my main concern. I'll keep my midfielder. Van Persie's case is giving me a headache. Among my five strikers, 3 could be rested...

I did not know that.

I dropped 12.
And lined up New Zealand goalkeeper instead of Neuer. That's not as risky as it might seem. He'll be shot at 100 times. He might let in a couple of goals, but I'll be rewarded.
On my bench is 15-point Stojkovic...
Pffff...

Being number 2, then, pokkeherrie?
Thrilling, isn't it?

pokkeherrie 06.20.2010 08:01 AM

I have exactly the same thing with Van Persie... had high hopes for him. Finally he'd been given the centre-forward position (in previous years he was nearly always moved to the left/right in favour of Van Nistelrooij or Huntelaar) and he looked sharp in the pre-tournament games (4 goals in 3 matches, scoring with both left and right foot). Then he's also Holland's first choice penalty-taker, which can be important in fantasy football.

But in the first two matches he hasn't showed it AT ALL. He looks tired, he doesn't get the ball and instead comes collecting it on his own half... and when he does get a shot on goal it doesn't look powerful. Yesterday I even thought about transferring him... yet I still have a feeling he might start scoring again. Maybe that's wishful thinking. :(

Second place feels good, but it also makes me wish I had read about the substitution thing earlier. Bringing in Hamsik today isn't paying off though, but at least he's not doing worse than Lahm (whom I substituted him for).

o o o 06.20.2010 08:33 AM

today i made 5 substitutions worth of 24 points!... but i think that - as in first round - i'm actually taking too many risks looking for the perfect score. in particular, i regret bringing in Hamsik - not only because he only brought 3 points today, but because throught this last substitution i now have the minimum of 3 midfielders and cannot substitute again Hamsik with one of my three last potential players on the becnh (no midfielder among them).

i think that in the end i might have too much of a balanced team (only one of my 23 players - the 3rd NZ goalkeeper - is not a potential point-earner) - having lots of potential substitutes is good to try to correct bad choices, but maybe i need more stars and more "ghost players"...

pokkeherrie 06.20.2010 08:49 AM

RE: ghost players, I just noticed I have J. Yun Nam in my team... I had no idea! :)

He's the North Korean who scored against Brazil. Naturally he was on my bench, so no points for me. I doubt he'll be scoring again, but maybe I can sell him at a profit.

chicka 06.20.2010 11:59 AM

I'm happy so far as I didn't have to much of clue on world class players as my soccer involvement just started this year watching the English Premiere
league. I've been getting killed with my third forward as Milito hasn't been playing and the Vela of Mexico got hurt. If I had a third guy up there giving me what Messi and Robinho have been giving me I dare say I'd be in the top 3 or 4. Hopefully I can make the right transfers for the round of 16.

demonrail666 06.20.2010 12:06 PM

... while I just feel like Domenech, with a team full of Anelkas.

Rob Instigator 06.20.2010 08:22 PM

I am waiting for the round of 16. I finally understand what is necessary.

Van Persie will play according to Van Marwijk, because he needs to "regain his form and match fitness". Other than Robben it's very well possible he won't change much at all. The yellow card thing no longer seems important now that they're only discarded after the quarterfinals.

However, it seems like Higuain will not be playing. I don't speak Spanish, but supposedly Maradona has said that he will start with his son-in-law instead playing next to Messi.

Since he was my captain, David Villa missing that penalty costed me 14 fantasy points, dammit! On the other hand, he should've been red-carded for hitting that Honduras player in the face, so I'm actually pretty lucky here. It's even possible he may still get suspended for that.

Rob Instigator 07.07.2010 12:51 PM

Man, for a total futbol fantasy newbie, I feel pride in moving my way up the Liquid World Cup rankings , even if it is from dead last to 28th
