also it depends on how you define middle class
|
The only definitation i trust of middle class:
Enriched working classes.I can i argue the fuck out of anyone over this. |
i see where you're coming from but i don't totally agree. do you think posh people are middle class?
|
No.
|
And posh is rich, yes, but not the same nonetheless.
|
posh is to rich as chav is to poor.
|
posh is more to do with your family history etc. my mum is posh (according to most people), but my dad isn't. however, my mum thinks of herself as being middle class, and i agree, she's not upper class.
poshness and richness aren't synonymous by any standards. |

You speak words of wisdom Moronic one. |
I am from Liverpool, cradle of the chav. It's not a class thing. It's just a subconcious thing over here that the 'normal' clothes to wear are bad 1980s tracksuits and huge gleaming white sneakers. The 'normal' hairstyle is a skinhead, and the 'normal' way to speak is to be unintelligible. It's not cool to know things. Nah, as long as you've got one of those new Motorolas.

i was reading a book once upstairs on the bus.
this was my encounter. check out dis fukin dikhead innit, wiv iz fukin book. oi geeza, why doncha go back to the fukin libry ya fukin wanker. with the gang all clicking their fingers and repeating the words "innit" and "dickhead" this is pretty much typical behaviour from this species if any of the none brits were still unsure. |
There isn't really an equivelant concept in the states as far as I can tell.
We've had a similar pheomenon in Ireland for as long as I can remember, generally called skangers (s-gang-ers), scobes, knackers, scumbags etc. Real hard-cases, or people who think the're hard, but of a particular type I don't think you really find in the U.S. Same time those labels are generally applied way to broadly, even sometimes by me, which is really fucking snobbish. |

i know exactly what a chav is now. |

poshness and richness aren't synonymous by any standards. What is that meant to mean? |
that other people think his mum is posh but he doesn't?
|
well i never really thought my mum is posh until other people kept remarking on it, for example, at her work she is known as posh catherine. what i'm saying is that the only reason i think my mum is posh is because other people say so, so she must be, but on the other hand she not posh enough to be upper class.
the english class system is one of the most complex and convoluted constructs in the history of mankind though. though it's sort of disintegrating and becoming more fluid now, which is a good thing. |
there isnt an equivelant to chav in america. the closest thing would be white trash, but as ive said its not really a class thing. every class has chavvy fuckers in it. If youve seen the (crap) comedy series 'little britain', then vicky pollard is the classic chav character. but, as ive said, its not really a working class thing, not ANYMORE at least.
|
yeah, i went to school with a few kids from very affluent backgrounds who would act behave like complete savages, one of them even rejected a job on a plate from his dad, wound up becoming a drug dealer and got murdered by another kid from a wealthy family over the paltry sum of a few hundred quid.

I think it's true that chavs come from all classes but would still say that it is a class thing. The majority of chavs, in my experience, come from working class families and there are always areas in towns and cities where the people who live there are predominantly working class and these areas are always a lot rougher and there are always loads more chavs. |
There are a ton of chavs in my town and they're arrogant little pricks who get away with a lot of bad stuff. We just call them 'scumbags' here. Yes, they are working class but not every working class person is a chav. I'm working class myself but you won't see me wearing a tracksuit to a pub.
As someone pointed out, it's only the lefty middle class types who'll complain about the abuse of the word chav. Real chavs are too stupid to be offended. |

I had a similar experience recently. Only difference was I chirped up with, "I'm dreadfully sorry, could you repeat that?" One of them says, "I asked what're you fucking reading for?" I said, "Well, I'm reading up on how to make drugs." The conversation went swimmingly from there. Nice chaps, even if they did show me their horse porn on their mobiles. |
Snakes one a plane?
Chavs on the bus more like! |
Yeah, I've actually found most chavs to be reasonably polite, moving out of the way when they have been loitering in the underpass, as is their wont.
It's the same as any subculture, their are cunts and their are nice people. Maybe their is a slightly higher percentage of cunts amongst the 'chavs'. I know some dudes who dress fairly chavvy and they are sound guys. They do far too many drugs for their own good but if I ever need to get my hands on a large amount of mind altering phamaceuticals at short notice I'm covered! |
