have you guys heard the new fiona apple

A Thousand Threads 06.14.2012 03:46 AM

What about the new Fushitsusha?
I still haven't heard it.

Recently got the new White HIlls, which i think is not so good.

batreleaser 06.14.2012 05:20 AM

I like the new Wet Hair "Spill into Atmosphere".

Hip Hop is currently the most exciting genre of music again.

New amazing hip hop is new Death Grips (as stated above), new Ab-Soul, new El-P, new Killer Mike (my album of the year so far), Schoolboy Q, etc..

I'm actually planning on going to Rock the Bells.

I also like this album by Bodyguard "Slicia Gel".

I have been playing Dr. John's "Locked Up" in my car non-stop. It lives up to its hype.

On the weirder front, I really like this record "Sinews" by White Suns. Reminds me of the late 90s (which I was too young to appreciate) when there was little separating the styles of bands as disparate as Dillinger Escape Plan and Black Dice. Derek Monypeny's "Limerence" cassette is rather good too.

Facebook sent me an update about this, the first EP from a band I saw in 2011. Best?? I don't know, but it's much more professional than one would expect from a relatively minor, club circuit pacific northwest retro goth band. It actualy might be a bit too professional, in terms of its sound. Their live show was a lot ballsier.... but it's a good effort!

SpaceCadetHayden 06.14.2012 03:29 PM

if you want to talk hip-hop it's clearly lil ugly mane's mista thug isolation for mixtape of the year and if you disagree you're wrong

true true

I dont know or care about your feeling on OFF! but their self titled record rocks too hard to ignore and has been played in my car non-stop.

Peaking Lights "Lucifer", like its predecessor, is one of those amazing albums to listen to when you are on opiates late at night/early in the morning and can't sleep so you just kind of day dream into the next morning dreading the thought of actually leaving your bed and suffering through the next tedious work day. It's more melodious than "936" though.

I like the new Liars.

Nice Face's "Horizon Fires" is pretty good.

Ty Segall made another pretty great record too "Slaughterhouse".

But in all honesty the only times I really listen to tunes these days are on my IPhone while working out, which is generally going to be hip hop or beats, and in my car, which is going to be Rock n Roll.

Completely off topic here, but how is the iPhone for listening while working out? I'm uusing a Droidx2 at the moment and I find it difficult to listen comfortably while jogging.

I also like the OFF! and Ty Segall records and Liars are just killing it this year. WIXIW is great.

Kylerobert 06.26.2012 01:06 PM

Burial is probably my #1 favorite of the year so far

louder 06.26.2012 01:28 PM

atm, mine is Control System by Ab-Soul. but that Burial EP is definitely up there.

Kylerobert 06.26.2012 01:38 PM

That Ab-Soul album was pretty dope. I'm looking forward to Kendrick Lamar's release as well.

louder 06.26.2012 01:41 PM

yeah i'm sure Kendrick's album will be great.

Kylerobert 06.26.2012 01:42 PM

Have you heard the Joey Bada$$ mixtape 1999?? I've been diggin that.

Mortte Jousimo 07.03.2012 07:54 AM

Krar Collective: Ethiopia Super Krar

This is very traditional Ethiopian, but like all great tradional based music, it really lives and has great spirit! And whatīs amazing on this album, that electric Krar on it reminds me guitar sounds and also melodies and riffs in some certain Beefheart pieces! On the other hand itīs not very suprising, because itīs known Beefheart took influences from African music.

Hereīs one live piece (I havenīt found any from that album):

Has anyone ever heard of Paul Simon? I guess you could call him a singer/songwriter, but he's more rhythmically interesting than most. Top-notch lyrics, too. He has a live album coming out. Consider supporting this young up and comer.

PAUL SIMON LIVE IN NEW YORK CITY

Joining Paul on the show is a stellar band of musicians including Cameroonian guitarist Vincent Nguini, guitarist/drummer Jim Oblon, pianist Mick Rossi, saxophonist/ keyboardist Andrew Snitzer, bassist Bakithi Kumalo, guitarist Mark Stewart, master percussionist Jamey Haddad and multi-instrumentalist Tony Cedras.

The Obvious Child
Dazzling Blue
50 Ways To Leave Your Lover
So Beautiful Or So What
Mother And Child Reunion
That Was Your Mother
Hearts And Bones
Crazy Love, Vol. II
Slip Slidin' Away
Rewrite
The Boy In The Bubble
The Only Living Boy In New York
The Afterlife
Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes
Gumboots
ENCORE
The Sound Of Silence
Kodachrome
Gone At Last
Late In The Evening
Still Crazy After All These Years

Simon and Garfunkel stuff is just great!!! I have now only sounds of silence-album from the sixties, but I have listened it a lot. But I have never been very excited about solo stuff of Simon. I think Graceland is one of too overrated albums of the world.
