It's never turned on.

max 08.10.2007 06:56 AM

I recently changed pickups in my lousy 140$ epi sg, btw. I have a totally radio-ish tone on the mid position now!

I am done with pedals for good now. totally satisfied with what i have. honestly tho I'm really thinking about switching my amp's speakers. Like the Deville, I've heard the same things about my FM 212 - meaning that it's poorly constructed and the speakers blow ass. in terms of sound, I really like it. and it's cheap as fuck. so I'm guessing what is gonan happen if I will change the speakers?

I found a harmonycentral guy who wrote a bizzare article in a bizzarre way stating that he changed those and ended up having a great tone. lemme paste it here for ya:

Product: Fender FM-212R
Price Paid: US $315
Submitted 07/04/2006 at 11:49am by FRG7SWL

Features :
8

Basic solid-state Fender amp, with 100 watts its' major attraction! Basically a two-channel amp, normal-n-drive; consider that 3rd "more drive" mode a sonic steroid! Mid-contour emulates Mesa Boogie types of Recto-vibed distortion if one certain mod is performed(see below). Spring reverb for subtle retro Fender vibe. Separate bass, midrange, & treble tone controls for both normal-n-drive channels. Pre-amp out & power amp in jacks for additional tonal flexibility. 2-button footswitch for channel access.

Sound Quality :
10

Considering this amp retails for around 3 bills, Fender had to make a production short-cut somewhere. It's in them stock Eminence speakers! They're voiced to emulate Jensen's C12Ns(1204s to vintage vibers), which means they don't suffer brutal wattage gracefully! Plus, they're wired in parallel! That lowered ohmage leads to sucky tone-n-electrical meltdown! As for that aforementioned mod, replace them stock Eminence drivers with Brown Soun's hemp-coned Vintage 30s, wired in series! All of a sudden that normal channel delivers classic Fender clean! A guitar geek bud said it sounded like a 60's-era Twin! Then when you kick into drive, you've got Mesa Boogie-ized Recto-Verbed distortion; more drive morphs into poly-phonic putty! Add pedals of choice if ya need more tonal versatility! Them hemp-coned V30s converts that lowly 212R into a veritable mini-stack! You'll have volume bordering on pain thresh-hold; yet that 212R aint even huffin'-or-puffin'! For added electrical protection, use an appliance surge protector like those sold @ Ratio Shaq! Used a Fender 50th anniversary Yngwie'ized Squier Strat, Mexican Jazz Bass, & Ibanez Les Paul Custom copy(with P.A.F. & P.A.F. Pro pickups) to put this pup through its' paces!

Reliability :
10

With that V30 mod & surge protection adapter, you've got a versatile, portable mini-stack for around 6 bills! A modded 212R should suffice until ya can afford that multi-kilobuck boutique amp! Ya can take a 212R out to a gig & not worry about some five-finger-discount Freddie; whereas ya gotta keep constant surveillance on a classic Twin or Bassman amp! Who sez ya can't be smug coaxin' scintillatin' tones outta a lowly 212R???

Customer Support :
No Opinion

Have never had to find out, thankfully!!!

Overall Rating :
10

Mesa Boogie built their empire moddin' Fender amps! With the aid of hemp-coned V30s, ya get the feelin' a Fender engineer returned the favour by incorporatin' Recto-vibed distortions into them drive channels! For around 6 bills total, plus a little bit of elbow grease, ya get a sonic slice of harmonic heaven!

whaddya think?

My friend had an FM 212. They are OK. I don't think replacing the speakers would do any harm. If you ever get a better amp, you've got 2 pretty nice speakers for it.

Play a blackface bassman with its original speaker cab sometime though. You'll get blown away. My silverface bassman sounds good, but in comparison to the blackface bassman, it sounds like ass. My friend had a silverface blackfaced vibrolux, didn't sound half as good as a blackface bassman. Seriously. I felt like God was rubbing my tummy. But it was like 1300 dollars.

Dude that is a cool board. I wanted one of those reel echoes but never got one. What is the behringer pedal? And I see you have the Android, does that have an expression pedal jack?

You can see my new(ish) 50 watt amp under the Hiwatt there. An Australian 'Ashton' amp. I hadn't heard of them either, but it sounds good.

In the way of pedals, recently I have only been rocking a Wah and a Tremolo pedal.. I'm keeping it simple for now. My phaser is somewhere.... and my blue box is broken again.

Here's some close ups of that Vox Ace I got off ebay:

I highly reccomend picking one up if you can, it plays like a dream. The action is great. That tele-deluxe-esque pickup has been installed since the guitar was made in the 70s, obviously, but the original neck pickup sounds just as good too. I can get some lovely sounds out of it.

looks kind of like a hagstrom. Is that a floating bridge tremolo?

The humbucker looks really out of place on that.

the behringer pedal is just a tuner,

yeah the android does have an expression pedal jack, (see the white jack lead to expression pedal)

but to be honest using the expression pedal gives a very subtle change in frequency,

to be honest the android itself is really the tamest ring mod ive ever played with, thats not to say thats a bad thing its great, but its not an overwhelming clonk like others can be, it add a nice robotic/chime tone to your sound, whilst still really remaining a background effect,

i think i may add another ring modulator at some point, not sure yet though

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 08.10.2007 12:28 PM

As simple as it is, the Frequency Analyzer is great. I hope they make a micro frequency analyzer.

soapbars 08.10.2007 12:41 PM

im sure id love the frequency analyzer but its just so big, although it wont be long until im going to need another board, i dont know if id need to a ring mod thats so big when i might be able to find what im after in a smaller box, maybe the zvex ring tone or someting,

im really wanting to get a blue box next then a phaser of some sort before i start thinking about another ring mod anyway,

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 08.10.2007 01:27 PM

The thing that turns me off about the Zvex ringtone is that it bleeds more than most ring mods because of its old school design and it also doesn't have a mix control except the trimpot inside.

CHOUT 08.10.2007 02:11 PM

Wow that Reel Echo is massive! Putting it by a Poly Chorus puts it's size into perspective...I had no idea it was that big. Nice board, soapbars!

soapbars 08.10.2007 05:52 PM

yeah, ive never really understood why its so big, the size is the only bad thing about it though,

CHOUT 08.10.2007 09:44 PM

I'm getting this fucker!:

I went to the guitar store and changed my Tele from consignment to a trade in...

They ordered me one of these amps directly from Fender.

I'm also getting a new Stereo Memory Man when they get 'em in and still have $300 store credit!!

king_buzzo 08.11.2007 11:16 AM

Fucker! You've always been lucky with gear.

I dont know weather to buy a NanoVerb now, or save money for a VocAC15 cause I'd save it faster from the nanoverb money.

Why you little...

Anyways, I'm demanding some French Toast samples from you, I wanna see how the thing sounds like... Would it be easy to rehouse?

I have this feeling that one day our pedalboards will align. Sort of like the planets aligning. I'm getting the SMM as soon as it comes out too.

BTW. . . anyone want to buy this guitar? 200 dollars shipped in the US (sorry non US guys and girls!)

not in factory condition because I sanded the gloss off the finish and made it look a bit more rough and tumble and also sanded off the part of the guitar that says Ibanez.

Buy our album and you can hear the french toast all you like! HAHAHAHEHE!:D:D:D:D

I may have a sample somewhere...all I can say is that it is easily the best octave distortion you'll find for that cheap.

Dreamweapon 08.12.2007 12:48 PM

Im wanting to change alot of my effects now. When i can be arsed i shall put them on Ebay.
