i didn't like prometheus very much either

LifeDistortion 04.30.2013 10:52 AM

I saw Prometheus recently as well, I never caught it in theaters because it seemed so divisive with fans. Having seen it now I can understand how some could love it, and some could hate it for what it is. I certainly don't want to give anything away, all the online movie people I check out were purposely vague about how this movie connects with the "Alien" series, so I feel like I should respect that for those who haven't seen it.

evollove 04.30.2013 11:27 AM

Promethueus made no sense.

Or I'm stupid.

Who was the guy at the beginning? Was that Earth? Why did the spacecraft leave a poison on the side of a cliff? Or did it? What the fuck??

Already I was lost. After a while I forgot about the "plot" and just wanted to see monsters eat up humans.

That self-surgery scene was fucking awesome, however.

h8kurdt 04.30.2013 12:24 PM

I think it was a good film so ner.

I believe the idea was that these scientists believed that the origin of man was extra-terristial. The alien in the beginning was a Titan, like Prometheus, who sacrificed himself for the creation of humans.

Rob Instigator 04.30.2013 02:22 PM

I enjoyed the look of it but the way the "scientists" behaved was not up to r. Scott's usual diligence. No way does any educated person, much less a scientist, takes off a helmet in an alien environment, regardless of oxygen levels.

Machete

I definitely prefer Robert Rodriguez over Tarantino at this kind of thing.

Rob Instigator 05.01.2013 08:25 AM

Machete would have been good cut to a 1 hour show

Yeah, I looked at the clock about half way in and thought, I'm enjoying this but does it really need another 50 odd minutes? A lot of it definitely felt like padding.

My favorite of the apartment trilogy. Somewhat underrated.

The scene where the woman in the hospital screams scared the living shit out of me when I saw it as a kid. (I'm thinking about the right film I hope.)

!@#$%! 05.01.2013 07:41 PM

i finally watched star trek first contact, i.e, picard vs. the borg battle again. not bad! not bad at all. i mean if you're a star trek fan and get into the whole bullshit and forgive the bad acting of some minor characters. i am/ i do. funnn!!! probably the best star trek movie i've seen outside of the jj abrams one.

^^ fine, asshole, i'll "save pics" bla bla bla

the borg queen was fucking great!

anyway another hotlink:

demonrail666 05.02.2013 08:50 AM

Watched these over the past couple of days

Mad Max

Brilliant! Can't wait for Fury Road.

Hobo With a Shotgun

Good fun homage to the kinds of 80s exploitation action movies I used to be so addicted to as a teen.

Bad Ass

This is great. I've been hoping for a 'new Charles Bronson' for ages and Danny Trejo seems to fit the bill perfectly.

bigas luna! i loved "la teta y la luna" and "jamón jamón" and then lost track of him...

----

HOLY SHIT HE DIED LAST MONTH!

demonrail666 05.02.2013 12:37 PM

I had no idea he died. Anguish maybe sunk the way it did is because it's very unlike other Bigas Luna films. It's closer to the kind of self referential horror movies Wes Craven went on to make.

!@#$%! 05.02.2013 12:45 PM

yeah i was looking at his wikipedia and he died of leukemia last month while working on a film adaptation.

im not a wes craven fan but i put anguish on my nflix quee anyway. turns out a bunch of bigas luna movies arent available on netflix cuz i think they have no american distribution, which blows. FUCKIN NETFLIX, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE EVERYTHING.

demonrail666 05.02.2013 01:04 PM

Be interesting to see what you make of Anguish. Like I say, it's nothing like Jamon Jamon but a really good film in its own right.

What could have been a cool sci fi movie became a very stupid monster film. Thankfully I got it on DVD at the library.

Collateral

Michael Mann is probably my favourite working director right now. I've always liked his stuff but it's only quite recently that he's fully clicked with me.

Have4 not heard of this one. I dig Trejo but thought that Machete was a terrible script. Is this on Netflix?

My brother rented that movie for us and our friends to watch at my 22nd birthday party. jesus fuck what a non-celebratory flick! You should watch Werner Herzog's Bad Leutenant:Port of Call New Orleans Not really a sequel but Nick Cage is great in it.

Rob Instigator 05.03.2013 10:40 AM

was at home sick wednesday and thursday. watched this

It made me feel worse. such a shitty movie. Like a color-by-0numbers horror movie, so stupid. so fucking stupid. I give it a 1/10

I don't know about Netflix. It's a decent movie that doesn't take itself too seriously without playing just for laughs. Don't expect too much and you should enjoy it, especially if you like Trejo.

I had to watch Hudson Hawk to get the awful taste of Aliens vs predator out of my mind.

I've never seen Alien vs Predator but saw it in a supermarket yesterday for a couple of quid. I very nearly bought it just out of curiosity. I'm glad I didn't bother, now.

Rob Instigator 05.03.2013 02:34 PM

Speaking as a sci-fi fanatic, who loved Predator and may love Predator 2 even more, who loves Alien, Aliens, and even enjoyed 3 and Ressurection, this AvP fucking SHIT on all the previous movies. I hope no one else ever watches it.
