Have not watched the OJ one yet, but did watch the Unabomber one and had very much the same feelings. Was very odd trying to pull from what little I remembered of it all, and trying to remember how much was actually reported on at the time. Hard to pinpoint, but something was "weird AF" about it. I imagine watching the OJ one will be quite the same.

Wait, was the Unabomber one also an “America Crime Story” thing? By the guys who do American Horror Story? If so I didn’t know it existed.

The O.J. one turned out to be very good, actually. Except for the fact that Cuba Gooding Jr. was playing a 6’8” 300lb man. Several references were made to his size in the show and he looked positively dainty next to John Travolta.

The Marcia Clarke portion of the story is particularly touching, as are the bits about Ito. It was such a circus when it happened that nobody viewed these people as, y’know, *people.* But at the time, Clarke and Ito in particular were both serious and respected legal minds, who found themselves surrounded by paparazzi and bullshit.

Really enlightening to watch. Ross from friends was not great as Rob Kardashian, but they did a good job with Cochran.

I don’t know. Even watching an attempt to tell a fuller story made me feel a bit ill. But if the AHS people also did a Unabomber show, I’m all in. This was good television at least. Uncanny, unsettling, but good.

ilduclo 11.11.2017 09:17 AM

I started that Unabomber thing, maybe about 20 minutes in I bailed due to bad acting & ham handed writing.

Just started Motherland, Anna Martin and Diane Morgan (P Cunk from Weekly Wipe). Pretty funny.

I don't think there was any production relationship between the two or anything, no. I just sort of lumped them together as modern dramatic series created about historic crimes, I guess.

Very true, I must say. It certainly is a "dramatization" in every sense of the word. I still enjoyed watching it though, mostly for the sense of how little I truly remembered about it via media at that time.

Severian 11.12.2017 08:36 PM

Started the new season of American Horror Story. The one about the greatest horror of all — the 2016 American president election. Good so far.

Started Flaked on Netflix. Stephen Malkmus does a lot of the soundtrack. Only watched one 30 minute episode, but... so far so good.

Nope. I felt the same way.

There are four seasons. And it sounds like that’s all there’s going to be. Spacey fort he axe from Netflix, or so I hear.

:(

I know.

Tracey Breaks the News. This is pretty good, some excellent impressions of Angela Merkel, Teresa May, Judie Dench, Jeremy Corbyn

I'm confused. I thought there was a House of Cards season already in the can. No?

Apparently it’s out of the can. Er whatever.

I was confused too, but apparently it has indeed been cancelled... because Kevin Spacey made a pass at a 14-year-old 30 years ago. I don’t think Spacey forced anything, but I could be wrong.

I was SO ready to see Robin Wright become the “good guy” and ruin Francis, and bea badass bitch of a president. Oh well.

!@#$%! 11.16.2017 11:23 PM

i wanna know where the parents of the 14 year old were 30 years ago. i mean. come on. 18 is legal, 21 is the drinking age. how late are you allowed out of the house

but yeah they just pulled the plug i thought. all those lost jobs. francis got ruined indeed.

btw season 5 of the americans is up on amazon now. woohooo!! but i gotta finish oz first.

oz now im in like season... 4 5? and it’s starting to lose steam. instead of compelling storylines built around strong characters it’s starting to go with unbelievable situation-of-the-week scenarios. still very watchable though, just not as much as the earlier seasons.

what did that guy say? nothing gold can stay.

evollove 11.17.2017 06:17 AM

You're making me want to watch OZ again. It's been a long, long time.

I recall liking some of the characters, but the only concrete moment that I can remember is when dude from Law and Order SVU is fully nude and takes a piss. I was so shocked, that has stayed with me for, like, a decade.

Severian 11.17.2017 12:07 PM

You’re making me want to watch the Americans again, even though I did that like all summer.

Severian 11.21.2017 11:28 AM

The Punisher on Netflix. Is ok so far. Not too excited about it. Never been a fan. Just watching slowly in free time. S’okay.

evollove 11.21.2017 12:13 PM

Is it super violent?

ilduclo 11.21.2017 01:21 PM

Pretty decent mafia show Bad Blood. Bunch of good actors. Canadian TV has some real good shows (Letterkenny is hilarious, and Davinci's Inquest was a good one, too)

go Canucks!

!@#$%! 11.21.2017 02:34 PM

not to be a contrarian (eh, who am i kidding) but i find most canuck tv superboring

long ago tried to get into the cult of orphan black but couldn’t. tried also some cop show, terrible. then there’s the one with the early XX century crimes... i even forgot the name (murdock mysteries maybe?). still gonna try trailer park boys though... that one looks promising.

Very justified crush too. Given her luck with boyfriends though, perhaps best not to date her though.

just finished season 6 of girls which was as annoying as ever— yet i had to watch because i’m wired that way. glad is over though!

So far no moreso than Daredevil. But Daredevil was pretty violent (dude decapitated by car door in episode 2).

It’s good though. Strikes a nice balance between holding to the Veterans symbol the character has become, but avoiding right-wing batshit craziness. Nicely paced.

Little bit espionage thriller, little bit western, little bit... New Jack City?

Violent, sure, but not excessively so. Not yet anyway.

Severian 11.25.2017 12:51 PM

Actually, it’s very very violent. Yes. Sorry. I’m just thinking on it now, and the amount of blood and guts is substantially higher than any of the other shows, including Daredevil (which had a lot of blood and guts).

But it’s pretty good. Never been a fan of the character, really. But the show’s ok as comic book nerd methadone.

Bubbles and Ricky are two of my favorite television characters ever created.

Hash driveway era of that show was fucking epic comedy.

The violence is a selling point in my book. Who wants a tame Punisher?

If you had written, "It's not violent at all, but it's really well written, acted and produced," I would've passed. Now I'm gonna check it out.

Did anyone see PUNISHER: WAR ZONE? It's a masterpiece of over-the-top violence. All sorts of unfortunate things happen to all sorts of heads. I love it.

I think I thought at first that it was not significantly more violent than Daredevil. But upon further reflection, and as the show progressed, I realized that was just my own long-simmering desensitization talking. There were moments that I had to look away. Seriously. Faces are pulpified. People bleed out through their jugulars. Men take bullets, knives, mirrors and countless blunt force blows to the head, all in the same scene.

It sneaks up on you a bit. It’s not all over the show, and some episodes don’t focus on much action, but when it happens it’s like the thing kicks into Rambo/Terminator/RoboCop mode and you’re like, “Aw FUCK ME THIS IS VIOLENT!”

I fell asleep during Punisher: War Zone... I actually forgot it existed (it melded in my mind with the ‘04 Punisher with Tom Jane and John Travolta) If it’s gonna be THAT B-RATED during the era of prestige superhero flicks (War Zone dropped during the Iron Man/Dark Knight era) then it might as well have starred Bruce Campbell and just allowed itself to be a gory ass joke.

This new Punisher has the Punisherness though. The other guys played him like a random gun guy... basically like John Mcclaine, but this... this is PUNISHER. His speech is a little off from the comics, but the soul of the character is finally there.

It’s cool.

evollove 12.05.2017 02:26 PM

Eh. I'm four episodes in, and I may finish, but I'm not digging it.

They made it too good. The plot is much thicker than it needs to be.

I want more schlock.

And the most violence I've seen is war violence, which isn't fun. I want to see bad guys get their heads blown off with a shotgun, dammit.

And these buff action stars suck. Dude has no personality.

I'm assuming this is all winding up to a gory bloodbath. If it doesn't I want my money back on the electricity I used to illegally download it.

if you want schlock i highly recommend the spartacus series from starz.
1. spartacus blood and sand
2. spartacus something something
3. spartacus war of the damned

it’s at the same time cheesy and great. one of those things. highly pornographic, and that goes for the violence as well. in other words: tits, ass, and exploding heads. in the last series (i’m watching now) people get their skulls split open like bloody vaginas. literally. no, literally. but yes, literally.

Rob Instigator 12.05.2017 04:09 PM

in the first three eps you saw point blank good ol 'merican asssasination and torture. tons of fools getting blown away on screen, etc. The Punisher was never designed to be a sadist. he killed, not tortured. he was a cop in comix, but (of course) he is some sort of "hero" government trained killer special forces assassin asshole. what a fucking joke. They turned the Punisher from an ex-cop avenging angel to a sterotypical "jason bourne-esque" dipshit assassin who i now has to kill those that trained him to kill. fucking stupid.

Rob Instigator 12.05.2017 04:11 PM

BTW, if I see another fucking movie or TV show that exists solely to aggrandize the poor fucks that we brainwash into becoming military killing machines and cannon fodder I am gonna blow up everyones TV's. jesus fuck. I am so sick of that shit.

Having evacuated just about the same time the new TV Seasons started, we haven’t watched any of our regular shows. (NOTE: we would DVR programs and watch later in week).

Unbeknownst to us, my Aunt has DVRd, Young Sheldon. Probably not something I would normally watch. My daughter started Episode One and we ended up watching the first three. I like it because it’s set in 1980’s Houston and Sheldon’s brother wears Houston Oiler t-shirts......just like I did in the 1980’s.

ha ha ha. ive never heard of that. what is it?

btw, you asked me last time if netflix/amazon would work with an ipad sending via lightning cable + adapter to a tv. forgot to say— the answer is of course YES. amazon works better than netflix with ipad. ipad iphone both work the same. adapter is $50 at apple store.

furthermore, found out there’s a samsung device to do the same— sending your screen to tv. so if you have a samsung phone, look it up. doesn’t need to be a samsung tv, it’s an adapter and runs cheaper than the apple one of course.

ok! enjoy

so what is young sheldon?

It gets worse/better/whatever you sicko

I recommended it to a friend who has a high-school age son, and told him it was “no more violent than Daredevil” and I had to take that back. It is more violent than Daredevil.

But it’s 13 episodes long, and there’s a bit of waiting. The violence is more than enough to have made it a Hard R had it been a feature film though.

Severian 12.05.2017 06:18 PM

American Horror Story: Cult (aka, AHS: TRUMP! AAAH!) was pretty good. Nice freaky little story about a little fuckass demagogue motherfucker who rules people with fear (which he creates by murdering people in a small town in a post-Trump purple state, and then leveraged to get ahead in a budding political career). Lil baby Trump. Nothing really new... no genuinely interesting political commentary... but still, better than that Roanoke bullsht.
