I typed 'I love some of their singles...' in parentheses after mentioning The Smiths: because I was referring to The Smiths.

Do you see?

If you look through some of my previous posts, you may find some spelling mistakes you can quote if you're desperate.

so you think maybe John Peel never listened to Coltrane, Miles Davis,. Thelonious Monk, Itzhak Perlman, Rahcmaninoff, Beethoven, etc?

John Peel speaks out his ass.

atsonicpark 08.28.2008 01:42 PM

Okay.

I've always felt that Rob's name on this board is perfectly fitting of his personality. No?

Rapeman

Not that I don't like them but my Albini scavenge did Big Black and Shellac before losing interest.

It's just missing the ".rar" at the end.

atsonicpark 08.28.2008 04:38 PM

I finally bought my first Smiths record last year, Strangeways, and while I thought it was okay, it didn't exactly light my fire. Similarly, I've listened to parts of the debut and Queen is Dead and just kind of went, meh. But I keep hearing how great those albums are, and I look at my collection and wonder why I don't have them.

How about you?

I think the Smiths can take quite some time to get into, I'd say Hatful of hollow is better for a start.

MellySingsDoom 08.28.2008 05:31 PM

Jandek. Went to one of his concerts in London, was immediately bored, and went back to the pub after 20 mins. Sorry, but I just don't get him at all.

atsonicpark 08.28.2008 05:48 PM

I have every Jandek album and I love him... but even I can't pretend it's entertaining or technically "good". The recordings have an awesome atmosphere and some of the lyrics and surprisingly musical parts are what makes it good for me.

I've got an other one : Arcade Fire. My friends told me I should like them, but, well, I think it sounds like shit, it's really boring, pseudo-arty crap...

Their first album is at best okay indie pop that I'll pull out every once in a while (like, I just listened to it the other day after not doing so for over a year) but the second one was just like god awful.

Hootie and the Blowfish.

noisereductions 08.28.2008 07:57 PM

I actually love NEON BIBLE by the Arcade Fire. And I'm pretty far from being hip on hip indie rock.

I've read many articles over the years mentioning, and sometimes praising, Leonard Cohen but have yet to look into his work.
