In an ideal world, so called ''difficult music fans'' would be able to tell that exotic ways of playing aren't always meant to sound like confrontational wank, regardless of personal taste. Look at the way noise is too often written about as something purely meant to provoke, rather than a compositional tool that can be as good as throwing a few chords together.

Rob is just mad that Jack doesn't rock.

The problem with Rob is that often he leaves me with the impression that he purposely ignores bands that ROCK, yet he feels obliged to remind us how much he loves THE ROCK.

Don't worry about Rob, he has his collection of jazz and funk records when he's not in the mood for rocking!

It's really hard to deal with the death of a member of a band you treasure. I felt terrible when I heard the drummer from Echo and the Bunnymen, Pete De Freitas, died in a motorcycle accident. He was only 27, the same age Kurt was when he died.

My take on Jack's acoustic playing is he had a technique that he could pull every bit of resonance out of the acoustic guitar and give it a very rich and warm sound. The reverberation is lush and dense. In the past year he was regularly playing his songs with other people, the D Charles Speer guys and also the Black Twigs, I think his career was just getting going. I can't just play "Fishtown Flower" once, if I start playing it I must play it over and over.
