ahh christmas and the postal system!!!!

Danny Himself 12.04.2006 03:39 PM

I know. I just don't want to risk having them lost in the christmas post chaos.

Bytor Peltor, I got your tape today by the way. Very nice. :]

Danny Himself 12.07.2006 06:48 PM

Okay, just thought I'd update on how things are going.

I have been organising the tapes today, sorting out who's getting what and whatnot. I am waiting on one more tape before I package them all. I am wondering what to do about this whole christmas-time postage jam. I fear that if I mail them out this month they'll be lost among the countless other christmas packages, and won't be delivered for a long time.

Should I delay the posting until after the holidays?

Glice 12.07.2006 06:55 PM

I reckon post them now. They should be alright, the postal service lay on a load of extra staff for the period, and you've got another few days before the last cut-off.

But then, I live in the same country as you, so it's pretty much a dead-cert that mine'll come before Christmas.

Danny Himself 12.07.2006 06:57 PM

Yeah, that's true, but I'm still waiting on Joel's tape. Oh, what to do..

finding nobody 12.07.2006 07:39 PM

It's been 4 days. I think my tape go to Pookie within 6

I'd wait until you've actually got all the tapes before sending any out.

Just in case FN's gets lost in the post and somebody misses out.

Danny Himself 12.11.2006 12:55 PM

I got your tape today Joel.

I am going to hold back sending them out until after Christmas, though, just to be careful. I don't want any tapes disappearing in the christmas post-madness.

finding nobody 12.11.2006 12:59 PM

Great. Reading that makes me happy.
By the way, whatchu think about the artwork?

hey alex 12.11.2006 01:42 PM

shit missed it again

Danny Himself 12.12.2006 06:38 PM

I thought it was great, Joel. I was like, 'whats that?', then I took out the picture and it all made sense.

finding nobody 12.26.2006 09:48 PM

YEAH

Danny Himself 12.28.2006 07:23 PM

Hah, okay.

I've been packing them up gradually. They'll be sent off within the next couple of days. Sorry for the delay, but it was necessary.

Danny Himself 01.03.2007 06:04 PM

Okay, I sent them off today, after some delay. They are now jetting their way towards you, as we speak.

Glice 01.03.2007 06:14 PM

Skill! Weekend tape for me! Hooray, British postal system!

racehorse 01.04.2007 11:28 AM

got mine, just about to go and listen to it!
cheers bytor beltor and danny, both stars :)

Glice 01.04.2007 12:07 PM

Got mine from Paulybee this morning, just finished listening to it (before I go out on the piss for the evening).

It's a great tape, so thanks to Pauly and Danny 'Faciliatator' Himself.

Side 1:

Starts with the Boredoms - Monster Rex... which is in their silly phase rather than the hippy bollocks of Seadrum, which is infinitely preferable; Trumans Water next, who I've not given enough time to and do sound like I'm Being Good, although I'm Being Good are better la la la I can't hear you. Daughters next, nice racket; Pere Ubu next, who I've neglected and are actually quite good; DJ Scotch Egg next, and I have to pause here for a round of applause [insert applause emoticon] because Scotch Egg is fucking amazing and a brilliant live show and deeply, deeply silly in an utterly great way. Prurient follows, who sits very nicely in there. I don't 'like' like Prurient, but in this context a bit of sub-Masonna squealing fits very nicely; Coughs up next, good, fun rackety things; Rub next, a new name on me, does an amusing London [I assume] 'ting which is funny without being annoying
; The Flying Luttenbachers next, who I dismissed on first listen because I'm clearly a dick and clearly entirely wrong on very rare ocassions - fucking brilliant; Next Lee Ranaldo, who if I'm honest does my head in with his poetry, but that's not really a problem. It's pleasant enough, just moderately annoying; Next is Boris' veil (part 7) which is more of their 'rocking out' stuff than the dirgey drones I tend to prefer. Good band though.

Side 2:

Sundburned Hand of the Man - Don't like this band, but this is not entirely offensive, quite a change of pace from the preceding side. I'll insert a compliment here on the sequencing of this tape, which is superlative. Next the Skaters, who are brilliant, and this track has reminded me that I should invest in a record because in spite of not liking a lot of this noisy drift that's very popular at the moment, I like them a great dea; The Magik Markers, who are another band I obviously didn't hear the right stuff for first time, this is quite enjoyable in an opiated rock out sort of way; Vampire Can't next, fun guitar racket again; Afrirampo follows, not my thing, but it's short; NWW up next, who, obviously, are brilliant, as everyone knows; Agata up next - didn't like his album, but, yet again, in the context of a mixtape this works terrifically well; Aidan Walsh and the Masterplan up next - another new name, this is probably not my thing, but it's a mixtape so hey, let's go along with it; Cassette Boy closes the tape, I haven't heard him for years, I've still got a few tapes/ CDs of his from c.2001/2, he's a bit of a one-trick pony, but is definitely tailor-made for inclusion on mixtapes.

Ace tape, cheers Mr Bee.

Oh, and the artwork's a green insect on the lid of an eyeball, which is somewhat disturbing (I have a weird thing about my eyes, I'm not squeamish for anything except that involving the eyes).

Rushed response, I must shower and get on a train, but thanks again.

Iain 01.04.2007 12:13 PM

The Skaters are ace but I have enjoyed them much, much more live than on record. Palmshaper and Gambling in Ophas Shadow are two of the better records of theirs that I have heard. Obviously they all sound much the same but that's not always a bad thing. They could be the 21st Century heirs to the Young/Zazeela/Maclise/Conrad throne if they wanted to but probably don't want to so there.

Also, nerd-y correction: Casetteboy is actually two blokes...or were, they are on hiatus/not doing anything anymore. Although they are going to be doing some music for a documentary.

Danny Himself 01.04.2007 01:49 PM

'Facilitator' is definitely a nickname I would like to have. Those tapes moved pretty fast. You see, with the Facilitator, it's nothing less than First Class.

I made a mistake when packing them all up, however. I was packing them up when I realised there was one tape that would not be sent out. I panicked, and put it one of the envelopes. I later remembered that the extra tape was for me to keep because I had made a tape. It's all too late now.

So, who's the lucky bastard who got two tapes?

Are you sure about Casetteboy? Even earlier stuff? It seem ridiculous that t/he/y should be the work of more than one.

I also, as I'm a little pissed, should not that the Young/ Zazeela [etc] trajectory is entirely about academic notions of drift, which is entirely different to improv notions of drift. But, otherwise (and infact includingwise), yescore.
