Toxic Johnny has been here so he knows how small it is.

Pookie 01.23.2007 08:02 AM

So it's quite a big box then?

I had visions of you huddled up, knees to chin wirth your little telephonist head thing on, poking plugs into sockets.

porkmarras 01.23.2007 08:12 AM

The box itself confines with my immediate boss's office. So tiny the desk is v-shaped and stuck in the corner.Where is the wonderful Toxic Johnny?

I'm just back from a three hour lunch break:

To start: Sundried tomato and artichoke salad
+
Main course: Mushroom, leek and brie tarte
+
Dessert: Chocolate sponge pudding with Baileys cream

All washed down with a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc.

Paid for by someone else.

I feel somewhat chirpier now.

_slavo_ 01.23.2007 12:18 PM

the gender, maybe.

Was searching this board for drone related discussion as I've been getting into drone again after actually getting bored with it a while back. This is my favorite genre of music, up there with jpop and American guitar primitive stuff definitely. Just amazing stuff.

Agreed, minus the jpop and american primitive.

atsonicpark 12.08.2008 09:08 AM

You haven't heard the right jpop! Plus-Tech Squeezebox, Capsule, Perfume, Mac Donald Duck Eclair, Strawberry Machine, etc. are so amazing. Some of the most fucking brilliant melodies ever. As for American guitar primitive, I dunno what to say.

But drone..... fuck. DRONE!

believe me, I heard more jpop on the plane from Vienna to Bangkok than is healthy :) . I don't remember the artists' names though.

I don't know, I just think of as Drones as extrwely powerful waves of sound that are generally used to hold music together, only in Drone music the Drone becomes the music. I've heard some absolutly amazing stuff in the genre, no doubt, but it's the once genre that too often gets too academic.

batreleaser 12.08.2008 11:28 AM

I love all the Double Leapords/Marcia Basset/Sunroof!/Matthew Bower/Hotogotisu/Zaimph stuff because its without dount some great stuff anyways but also because it just kind of rocks, like makes my adrenaline get going and wanna freak out a bit. This is the problem I find with a lot of Drone, I feel I listen to it so absentmindedly, which is something I enjoy about all the Ambient music I dig, but with Drone I wanna feel it a bit more. Like Charalambides is a good example, they use Drones but only as a way of intensifying the other styles they dabble in. Another band I love. I will always love La Monte Young's drones, especially the mega-power drones used in the Theater of Eternal Music records. The Theater of Eternal Music still sounds more extreme than any drone I've heard today, including Sunn O))). That's another band I've TOTALLY lost interest in, how many more drone metal albums do we need when the best one will always be Earth 2?

I generall am a big Kranky records fan, particularly of Stars of the Lid, who I feel are the most underrappreciated musicians of our time.

I like Tangerine Dream, and other Krauatrock bands who ocasionally will pull a drone or two.

I like Phil Niblock, sometimes.

You could prolly argue that "Heroin" makes the Velvets responsible for introducing the drone to Rock music, and their one of my 5 or 6 main musical obsessions, so them.

I like lots of Dark Ambient like Shinjuku Thief, (some, dude has made lots of shit records) Lustmord, and Blue Sabbath Black Cheer.

batreleaser 12.09.2008 10:04 AM

the fuck you talkin about?

When did it become bad to like tons of different music?

deflinus 12.10.2008 01:49 AM

listening to drone music is like you being at a party surrounded by people at every corner, with loud annoying popular power pop songs playing- and at some point you just want say "fuck it!" so you go outside and you're by yourself and it's very quiet. and you can make out the quiet noises outside and the peace and calming sounds lifts you..

drone music is like a breath of fresh air from this fucking force-fed crap we're surrounded by. sometimes you just need long 33-minute drone pieces to pull yourself together.

i'm new to it so lately i've been listening to jim o'rourke's pieces. i love his laptop pieces like Long Night and Despite The Water Supply. is there any similar drone artists that someone can recommend me?

_slavo_ 12.10.2008 03:46 AM

not really "similar" in the sense you put it, but I highly recommend you to listen to some Peter Wright. Most of his releases are pure bliss, however my favourite is definitely "At last a new Dawn"

I definitely will. I haven't bought a record in ages.

atsonicpark 12.10.2008 07:10 AM

I have a friend into drone music who talks like a drone record. Everything he says has a droning, monotonous "yeeeeeeeeeeeah" in between words. It's awesome.
