MellySingsDoom 06.12.2008 03:38 PM

Austria have just scored! Go Oesterreich!

o o o 06.12.2008 03:45 PM

Shit... I lost 7 points for this penalty in overtime (including the yellow card). Bad choice of captain again.

GrungeMonkey 06.12.2008 04:15 PM

this rounds going much better for me!
still, need some goals for italy v romania, preferably some pirlo free kicks...

HECKLER SPRAY 06.13.2008 03:17 AM

I'm bad, I'm bad....
Nani didn't play the match, Carvalho conceded a goal.
What will it be the next time ?
Van der Sar 'll concede 5 goals, a red card for Ribery, no goal from Torres ????

Bertrand 06.13.2008 03:31 AM

And we're 13 now !
A Venezuelian bloke joined - or so he says, about being from Venezuela.
He popped at #4.

His team : lionel hutz
- welcome !

I'm #7, right in the middle of the table.
I started this League, I guess I'm bound not to be too high and not too low in order to keep the guests at ease.
My pal, Glasgow Enculouz, asked for a tip yesterday, I mentioned the name of one of his players, and this player is now ruled out.
Eh eh eh...
Now, if I type Buffon... Torres... Klose... Ballack... Pepe... will they sprain their ankles?

Bertrand 06.13.2008 03:48 AM

And right after typing this, I read that Pavlyuchenko might not play!
My captain!
I said nothing about those guys above, whoever you are, powerful spirit, let my Russian play, it was only, really, a joke!

Yesterday games were strange.
Germany didn't look like anything. A bunch of posts in the grass. Modric is some player.
Austria had a terrific start, and Boruc was the only Polish player able to keep his team alive. Then they scored and Austria fainted. Then Poland decided not to play anymore and got punished for that (those late corner kicks). Fine for the hosts.

pokkeherrie 06.13.2008 06:40 AM

Well, Harvik is on my bench anyway, so it would've been cruel if he had scored both those huge chances. (does this game have auto-substitution btw?)

Hey, does anyone know if Cannavaro will be playing today? Even on those crutches he looks a lot faster than Materrazzi...

pokkeherrie 06.13.2008 06:48 AM

Sorry nicfit! :p

In other team news, the newspapers here seem to suggest that Evra will be starting instead of Abidal for France... would that be correct? Time to play the good ol' wildcard then. So far I have only 14 points from 6 players in this round... abysmal! I can't believe I'm still number 1 in our league.

May the best team win tonight.

(... unless it's France of course!)

ha ha it's ok, I'm not a die-hard supporter and as I said italy should start thinking about scoring goals instead of its somewhat crappy defence without real "champions"..
i'll think about a possible wild card too, but i'm not much up to date with formations and stuff-.--

well, looks like the actual lineup will be zambrotta, grosso, chiellini and panucci :D , I'd do for a good fortune teller ha ha!
I'm glad Donadoni chose panucci, he can do well.

GrungeMonkey 06.13.2008 09:56 AM

Donadoni looks like Wayne Coyne.

nicfit 06.13.2008 03:48 PM

Oh well.
4-1

these orange guys can't go wrong this year, apparently... a series of amazing goals...

damn!

nicfit 06.13.2008 03:50 PM

oh about the italy-romania match
everything went as I expected.
clumsy horrid defence, toni not yet at ease, some good cassano moments and not much more. Good game by romania, they didn't much to "build" actions but they did good when they had the ball, pretty effective.

█████████ 06.13.2008 03:59 PM

yes, i saw a bit of the second half and sneijder's goal... amazing.
they are playing very well.

france seemed better too.

looks like we are going to have one of those france-italy once again.

nicfit 06.13.2008 04:04 PM

yep. didn't check the time of the games, if italy-france is before orange people - romania it might be a cool match after all.
if it's after, it might be a 90' of insults from the supporters in the stadium if romania wins before. I just hope holland will keep playing this well and win over romania.they're not just playing well, they manage to turn everything to gold, each attack action is different and dangerous as hell. Definitely the most impressive team along with spain and portugal. Let's not forget they destroyed the 2 world cup finalists (both not in top condition, but still...).

Bertrand 06.13.2008 04:34 PM

That team was great !

Before the avalanche of goals, they kept the ball and moved it so easily. And whenever the French became threatening, Van Bronckhorst altered the rhythm (going forward quickly to remind the blues that there could be danger from the orange or cooling things down). The third goal bludgeoned the French.
The winning side goals were amazing (well, maybe not Kuyt's).

I can't remember a defeat of that kind for France (4-1). Before Zidane wore the blue shirt, even Cantona maybe.

A big competition, two years ago, France facing Italy for the title.
This big competition, in four days, the same teams could be facing each other in vain. Close ups on the players faces will be interesting.

I'm pretty sure the oranges will try to win against Romania (who won't have fullback Goian), they've had 6 different scorers who will want their partners to join them in their netting happiness. Teams who score through many players tend to end up well (France 98, Italy 06).

Romania - Netherlands and Sweaty France - Sweaty Italy will both start at 20:45. I don't think there will be calculation.

Damn, that's true!
I'm such an ignorant, I should know this basic stuff....the fever isn't gone yet...

HECKLER SPRAY 06.13.2008 04:57 PM

Shit shit shit !!!!
Quelle branlée !!!
The defense was dazed and confused.
Nothing much to say about this match (I didn't see it), except I hope Malouda will not play the next (but not the last)one.

HECKLER SPRAY 06.13.2008 05:30 PM

Forget what I said about Malouda, I've just seen a recap, and I'd say Coupet and Thuram should be on the bench for the next game.

Bring on Mexès!... Oh wait...

At work, we did a lottery before the start of the tournament, where everyone had to pick one paper out of 16, on each paper was written the name of the team and the one who has the winning team will win the lottery. I picked Holland. At least, I might win something out of this.

GrungeMonkey 06.13.2008 05:50 PM

maloudas crap. hes crap for chelsea and crap for france.

HECKLER SPRAY 06.13.2008 06:09 PM

Idon't like him but he was not the worst player during this match, and he did a really good pass to Henry (wasted...)

HECKLER SPRAY 06.13.2008 06:13 PM

I must ad that a duch player stoped Henry's shot with his hand whereas he was about to score. Fucking blind referee...

Bertrand 06.14.2008 03:29 AM

France hadn't been beaten by more than 3 goals, in a big tournament, since 1958 !
And the last friendly catastrophe seems to be 26 years old, 0-4 against Poland, in Paris.

Local journalists predict a Romanian victory, due to a Dutch scheme planned not to meet Italy and France again.
I seriously doubt it.
OK, Van Basten might pick guys from his bench, but his subs aren't out of shape worthless players. Besides, the bench option was welcomed as a bright move, when Aimé Jacquet and Roger Lemerre did for France on their 3rd game group stage in 1998 and 2000 (a victory in 1998 against Denmark, a defeat in 2000 against the Oranges - so, yes, a group leader defeat might occur).
Romania will play without key defender Goian, and midfielder Radoi whose clash on the pitch with Rat(?) might lead to an operation.

Anything's possible, but, und das ist eine big but...

The only arranged game I remember was Austria-West Germany during the 1982 world cup. Both teams had started playing accordingly to the rules as we understand them. Each threatened the other. And, 30 minutes from the end of the game, realizing the result was satisfying for both sides, they gently kicked the ball, never approaching the box, avoiding cards, injuries and exhaustion - and Algeria, second before the game, came third due to a weaker goal average and exited.

GrungeMonkey 06.14.2008 04:30 AM

why the hell would holland let romania beat them so they dont face france or italy again?
they thrashed both of them!

PAULYBEE2656 06.14.2008 04:52 AM

man i need spanish intervention today again to save my team.. terrible round of matches for me.

Bertrand 06.14.2008 06:21 AM

And now I know how Joan of Arc felt... erm... how it feels to lag behind.
How to improve?
If I pick a great player the leader has, his results won't fill the gap.
Chances chances chances for the last group stage day, find the hidden jewel noone has, and see him score 5 goals in a row.
Higher chances, everybody brings four subs from unqualified teams and use their wild card unappropriately.
As probable as Netherlands scoring own goals to help Romania.

PAULYBEE2656 06.14.2008 05:20 PM

only 5 points behind obiku fc... but only 8 clear of the fast rising bolanarede

its tight at the top...

transfers done, need to tighten up at the back and score more goals!!!

still top of my head to head group with a +7 points difference tho....

atari 2600 06.14.2008 06:27 PM

can't remember if the money caused me to lose Ibramovich, but I know I had him at one point (haven't checked the standings and assume the worst -- haha)

watched nearly the whole Sweden v Spain match today...exciting conclusion in stoppage time...

I have a feeling Malouda will come good in the next couple of years, or be sold and then become good in the next couple of years

nicfit 06.15.2008 03:56 AM

have fun, I think I'll soon be disqualified for lack of points...

PAULYBEE2656 06.15.2008 04:35 AM

DONT GIVE UP.. all you need is a bit of luck....

nicfit 06.15.2008 04:42 AM

PAULYBEE2656 06.15.2008 02:23 PM

PAULYBEE2656 06.15.2008 03:46 PM

petr cech, you gotta feel for him and the czechs but that was an unbelievable game...

glad i got rid of my czech players although my new goialie didnt do much tonight either!

pokkeherrie 06.15.2008 04:00 PM

Wow, what a sensational ending of the Czech-Turkey game! Unbelievable!

...costed me a lot of fantasy points though.

pokkeherrie 06.15.2008 04:07 PM

Guess it's not too late yet to comment on the Holland-France game... I once again had a very enjoyable night at the pub! Hope it was good for you as well, Bertrand/Heckler Spray! :)

I wasn't very confident during the second part of the first half though. France put on a lot of pressure and clearly exposed the defensive weaknesses of the Dutch team. Luck was a more important factor in this game than it was in the Italy game. But what a very, verrrry bold move by Van Basten to put on both Robben and Van Persie while being under that kind of pressure. How many coaches would have done that? I wasn't sure if it was a good idea at the time, but 5 minutes later they were responsible for the 2-0, so I had to eat my words/thoughts.
After that Robben goal people were standing up and applauding. Amazing finish and perfectly timed, 45 seconds after Henry's goal (which was awesome as well). Thuram and Coupet could've done better though... Sneijder's goal was great too, but he has scored many like those for Ajax.

Bring one the quarters! Whoever's going to win it now, they will always have won "the tournament in which that Dutch team played so awesome".

nicfit 06.15.2008 04:09 PM

well, it was fun.
