Not sure I'd agree with the 'until now' bit. Something you said earlier in this thread about Britain being less apologetic about its pop than America seems spot on though. America strikes me as always trying to cover its pop tracks a bit too much, emphasising so-called 'non-pop' qualities like a 'strong' voice, 'authenticity', etc. It creates pop, but seems utterly ashamed of it when it does. Which is why the US could never produce a Shampoo or a Altern 8 or the mighty Cola Boy. They creatd N'Sync I suppose, and the Backstreet Boys, but we even managed to do that better wih Take That and the outragously underrated East 17. Britain does Pop better than America. Always has, always will. |

No way was London Fashion Week her idea. I suspect Harding was behind insisting that Roberts attend. She left early though, I'll bet. Probably to listen to some Derek Bailey and read some Burroughs. I bet she loves Burroughs. |
I can't reveal my source for this, but I have it on good authority that Ms Roberts is working on a Scott Walker covers album with Jessica Rylan, to be released under the name Nicola Can't.

I reckon Ms Roberts has been listening to early Cabaret Voltaire bootlegs, for new ideas to pass on to Xenomania....and the lyrics in "Speak French" (with verses and choruses having little to do with each other) is pure Burroughs.

Don't words like council, estate, pram and tescos give you a raging erection? They're utter porn in my book. Add a pink velour tracksuit, Gregg's bakery and dodgy politics into the mix and, frankly, I'm well game. |
hoop earrings and shit cigarettes!
