I read this recently. What do you guys think of the sonic youth slam in the beginning?

http://issuu.com/carlospc/docs/ghost...3&layout=grass

I loved the whole thing though...

This was cool too. Gaiman is fucked up.

I'm taking a one unit comic book class, btw.

Rob Instigator 10.07.2009 09:07 AM

the slam in ghost world is at chicks who pretend to be cool by knowing who sonic youth are, not a slam at sonic youth. clowes is a big fan from what I read.

I am reading

Sandman - Preludes & Nocturnes

But is worth spending the money?

if you like women's erotica.

Alex's Trip 10.07.2009 12:30 PM

Yeah, I just think its funny, I know it wasn't like "im gonna slam this band that I don't like in mah comic book."

Preludes and Noctures is good.

Rob Instigator 10.07.2009 12:51 PM

twas very fun ny.

peopel always use the Youth as their refernce point to rip on hipsters. weird huh?

Katy 10.07.2009 01:15 PM

I've read five Neil Gaiman books this year and seen him in person three times. I'm not even that big a fan of his. Weird.

He's highly overrated.

notyourfiend 10.07.2009 01:24 PM

three books - and the band played on (about hiv + aids), no setlist, and history of sexuality (re-reading for the 4th? time)

Rob Instigator 10.07.2009 01:38 PM

better to be overrated and read than underrated and left on a shelf to moulder

I've read some of his Sandman graphic novels and wasn't overly impressed. I've read better.

Just finished:

Will finish tonight (started last):

A real book that is meant to be the main book from the 1st season of Californication. For a fictional fiction book, it's damn good if a little brief.

dubliners

acousticrock87 10.20.2009 07:43 PM

I read half of the Brothers K in that translation. And it kicked ass.

Right now:

Ron Paul - End the Fed. Good so far, but he writes like a child.
Murakami - Underground. A little repetitive but great on rainy days.
Second Sex. Not really reading it, just bought it and plan to jump around in it a bit.

I also tried Guns Germs and Steel, Mind Wide Open, the Authentic Gospel of Jesus, and this little white Salinger-esque "Manifesto" I found at the record store. I'm probably never going to finish any of them.

dirty bunny 10.20.2009 07:44 PM

you [expurgated], that book is fucking awesome

you just have to get thru the beginning is all

if you wanna get into it furreal (not like some "classword assignment" shit), read georges bataille's "literature and evil". and then re-sink into it with more joy.

nobody should be forced to read shit they don't want to-- it kills the love of literature.
