Noisereductions, did you ever see INSIDE? It's one of the few new horror movies I really really liked. Maybe my favorite soundtrack ever.

It's a bit more artsy fartsy than most, that's probably why I like it.

I also like High Tension a lot, I mean the ending was sort of unneccessary, though sorta cool. I mean, the entire movie is about her lying. Makes sense but it could've just been a hardcore slasher, didn't really need that twist.

You've never heard of (rec)? I find that hard to believe! It's the original version of Quarantine. But way better. Not really my thing, but it gets cool at the end. I don't really like movies with shakey cameras, as I've said before. They make me sick, and not in a good way.

oddly enough, my wife really wanted to see this one -- and the library (which we live across the street from) has it. BUT for some reason when I read about it, it made me really really nervous to watch it. I don't know why. It's like I'm scared to see it. Haha. Considering almost every movie I watch is horror, it's kind of weird that I can still get like that...

I liked it. Didn't love it. The beginning is horrifying (the dad's head scene). Amazing. But yeah, it could've just been a slasher, and a good one. I think it was aiming more towards Revenge Flick ground though. DAY OF THE WOMAN style. But agreed -- no twist necessary. And it was almost tacked on. Apparently the movie is basically jst an unlicensed adaptation of Dean Koontz's INTENSITY. My wife read the book and confirmed that other than a few critical parts, it's pretty damn close. At least as a ripoff would go. And of course, the titles are quite similar. No?

NR, please go see Inside. I never reccomend movies to you, but I am reccomending this one. It is impressive. It is genuinely disturbing at points. It is unpredictable. And it is stangely beautiful. It is just STRANGE, period, and creepy. It actually reminds me of Lynch, a times, and I don't just throw around the "every weird film is Lynchlike" thing. It's one weird little fast paced atmospheric horror modern classic with lots of SHOCKING violence. I think you'd dig it.

Ah, I'd heard the Intensity thing before. Yeah, it's probably identical then, I've heard that from a lot of people. That's pretty lame. It's too bad that movie starts out so fantastically and then by the end it's just like "wow, did the filmmakers actually not know how to make movies or something?" Again, I take the ending as.. well, the entire film is her telling a story that isn't true, and she's lying about it... which is cool in a way, but also kinda cheats the viewer a bit and is unnecessary. I mean, it's almost as bad as "everything was really a DREAM!" or something, you know? Just a cop out. Has a lot going against it, but I liked it. And I actually liked the Hills Have Eyes remake those dudes did, until the HORRIBLE ending, when the heroic music starts playing and the guy starts going wild on the freaks. Anyway...

noisereductions 07.07.2010 08:21 AM

You don't recommend films to me. Maybe once a year. So yeah, I'll try to strike up the courage. haha.

I liked the Hills Have Eyes II that he did, but of course Craven co-wrote the script, so I'm a bit biased.

it was like 4th horror movie i've ever seen in my whole life, but just that kind of thing that I seem to like. Not too much blood or gore, but scary atmosphere and high tension.

Any recommendations for movies like this? The less gore and the more fear, the better.

we watched this movie Lake Mungo a few weeks ago. The best way I can describe it is that almost nothing even happens. But then you're left feeling really creeped out. It's weird. Different. I liked it.

atsonicpark 07.07.2010 08:23 AM

Less gore and more fear? Hmm... I'm trying to think. Not many movies have genuinely scared me. That movie MARTYRS came out at the same time and a lot of people seemed to like it, it was similiar in tone and such, I thought it was 'aight.

Actually, Slavo, I'd get some Argento! He has really atmospheric films and not much gore (there's plenty of blood and in SOME of his films there's a severed head or something, but it's usually only one or two brutal murders and the rest are just stabbings and shit). Deep Red, Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Tenebre, Opera, and (overrated but still) Suspiria might be up your alley if you want atmospheric horror without people's insides turning out and such.

I've watched the trailer, looks interesting, thanks for recommendation.

Martyrs? Come on, I've heard the last 30 minutes are just pure torture.

atsonicpark 07.07.2010 08:31 AM

I actually meant Frontiers, not Martyrs. But either way. I guess they've both got some brutal stuff in them but they're kinda similiar in tone to rec. I dunno.

If you really just want atmosphere and no blood, get Baron Blood (irony eh?) by Bava. I dunno, it's hard to reccomend a horror film without violence and shit! Sounds like you might want to start watching Japanese horror. Most of that is pretty bloodless (I'm talking J-HORROR, not the brutal Japanese horror shit like SPLATTER: NAKED BLOOD and KICHIKU DAI ENKAI) and more concerned with atmospherics. Freeze Me is cool! Pretty much ANYTHING by Kyoshi Kurosawa, like Pulse, Cure, etc.

_slavo_ 07.07.2010 08:33 AM

Is there something like Paranormal Activity out?

Rob Instigator 07.07.2010 08:36 AM

Let The Right One In. have you seen that yet _slavo_? May be right up yr alley.

atsonicpark 07.07.2010 08:36 AM

Oh, THIRST might be worth watching too then.

noisereductions 07.07.2010 08:41 AM

Paranormal Activity sucked.
Let The Right One In is AMAZING. Minimal gore.

atsonicpark 07.07.2010 09:04 AM

Yeah, Paranormal Activity was like a 1/10.

_slavo_ 07.07.2010 09:09 AM

I liked that a lot. Why so low score in y'alls books?

noisereductions 07.07.2010 09:10 AM

it was. Nevermind the tired concept -- that could have been somewhat redeemed if it weren't for the horrendous acting. i mean honestly, most Naughty America films feature far better acting.
