Leicester put back in lockdown after a spike in cases, with a long list of other areas that might also be affected. I'm wondering if the government isn't contemplating using this strategically, as a way of trying to suppress further BLM-inspired protests/riots. Whatever the motive, authorities will have a tough time enforcing another lockdown if/when we have another heatwave like last week's.

h8kurdt 06.30.2020 07:48 AM

Think the whole Dominic Cummings farce has put paid to the idea of another lockdown succeeding. It was beating those first few weeks of lockdown and people still stayed in.

demonrail666 06.30.2020 07:59 AM

It's a host of factors. Cummings will obviously be used as one of them, as well as the authorities allowing mass protests and the fact that now people have had a taste of even relative freedom after the lockdown had been eased it'll be even more difficult to enforce, especially during spells of hot weather.

I had to use the train yesterday, where it's now compulsory to wear a mask. A majority of people in my carriage weren't wearing one and the onboard guard made no effort to even question them about this, never mind eject them. Whatever the government says, it feels like most people now have a post-COVID mindset and in light of recent events, the authorities feel utterly powerless to do anything about it.

Using a mask EVERYWHERE, especially public transportation, has been mandatory here for MONTHS. You CANNOT try to get inside any train, building, spaceship, whatever, without a mask and not get stopped at the door. Actually, you can't even go walk the dog without a mask on. Fucking first-world countries of yours wiping their asses with the face masks, man, it's mind-boggling.

Even countries which were rightfully praised for their response to the outbreak, like South Korea and Germany, are now being battered by a second (or are we on the third now already?) wave of Codeath-19. So imagine where that leaves these assholes:

^ Miami Beach, Florida on June 26. Hey, here's an idea: Washington D.C. gets State status, and Florida gets kicked out of the Union. That way the mooks who want to keep the number of states round get what they want, and the red "chads" state can go fuck a goat.

demonrail666 06.30.2020 04:00 PM

Sorry to disappoint you but if there's one part of Florida that can be confidently described as Blue, it's Miami Beach.

but you realize not everyone there is a neighborhood local, yes?

then again, people lacking sef-control come in all colors of the political spectrum

demonrail666 06.30.2020 04:38 PM

Yes, I do realise that. I'll go further and wager that some of them might not even be from Florida. So really not the best photo to use when desperately trying to politicise bad behaviour.

Thanks to the ridiculously distorting electoral system (U!S!A! U!S!A!), their votes don't count unless a huge bunch of Boca Ratón old-timers drop dead at once. Which, come to think of it, may well be the case this year...

demonrail666 06.30.2020 04:54 PM

Apparently those pesky Boca Raton seniors are taking this whole social distancing malarky a bit more seriously than all those MAGA rust-belt tourists that've apparently descended en masse on a usually very reserved Miami Beach.

I'd love to think states like Florida and Ohio can flip, but even in the midst of this devastation I still can't. Biden has to recuperate those 107K votes in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Nifty how these three threads have a tendency to overlap, huh.

Yes, stupidity is transversal. This specific kind of stupidity, the one described by Fauci (as diplomatically as he could...), is undeniably lopsided to the red hats crowd, big time.
