I rewatched Anchorman recently, it hasn't stood up well over the years - at all. Steve Carrell's character actually came across more as undeniably lame, and annoying than actually funny. Which is a shame, since I really used to love that flick. I saw Talladega Nights in theaters - it made me cringe.

Elf still makes me laugh, and I saw a good chunk of Step Brothers once, which completely exceeded my low expectations. I'll have to watch the whole thing eventually.

I personally think Ferrell is at his best when playing secondary characters. Take Mugatu, from Zoolander, for instance. Ferrell completely stole the film. Which is hard to do, considering just how funny, and quotable of a film, Zoolander really is.

He was also hilarious in both Old School, and The Ladies Man, where he played a secondary character in both films. He's incredible at playing off of other actors, but his performance weakens greatly once he's in the spotlight.

I also thought he did a stellar job lending his vocal talents to The Oblongs.

Old School! Damn, how'd I forget that? I love Old School. I love Frank The Tank.

atsonicpark 08.10.2010 06:51 PM

wow..

noisereductions 08.10.2010 08:03 PM

it is what it is adam. Sometime entertainment need only entertain the eyeballs and brain being subjected. I mean whatever. I don't care if it makes me a dullard for laughing at Old School. I just do. And it just is.

Ghostchase 08.10.2010 08:15 PM

He was cool in Zoolander. That's it.

noisereductions 08.10.2010 08:19 PM

he was funny in Zoolander, but it was whatever. I mean, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson were just as funny in it. It was a stupid movie so everyone worked.

atsonicpark 08.10.2010 08:22 PM

I watched Rushmore for the first time in forever today and didn't like it very much at all. I don't like any of that guy's movies very much. Unlikeable characters, plots that don't do anything that interest me, just didn't feel like much of anything. Oh well.

Also been watching THE MUSIC VIDEOS OF MICHEL GONDRY dvd set. Now that's cool. Just being able to have "Sugar Water" and "Let Forever Be" and "Star Guitar" and "around the World" and etc to watch whenever I want to, on my tv, is great.

atsonicpark 08.10.2010 08:28 PM

Oh, I watched this recently

"REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER"

and it was probably the best mockumentary I've ever seen. That girl in the poster wears a Nurse shirt in it.. this one:

...really good, watch it if you like smart, funny films.

noisereductions 08.10.2010 08:40 PM

I feel like Wes ANderson is best if yr young and hopeful (and quirky) .Each year you grow up 365 days more and his films are less relateable.

Never heard of Reg Sex Offender. But that Nurse shirt rules.

TheFoxBen 08.10.2010 08:43 PM

You must be right NR... I'm young and hopeful, Wes Anderson is one of my favorite directors (Rushmore being my favorite of his movies) so yeah it's just a thing you have when you're young and I can't even tell WHY I love his movies, I just love them.

(and yeah, that Sonic Nurse shirt mentionned earlier is awesome, I need to buy one of those ! Not a pink one of course.)

atsonicpark 08.10.2010 08:44 PM

oh, RSO is basically just the smartest, funniest, most inventive mockumentary ever, so it's been completely ignored and probably will never get a "proper" release because it's good.

Anderson.. I just don't get the appeal at all, it just seems like a big boring joke on the audience, really. The emptiness of his work doesn't appeal to me.

noisereductions 08.10.2010 08:54 PM

Rushmore I loved when it came out. I still like it. Cept now I like Bill Murray more than Schwartzman.

Tannenbaums I still love. But nostalgia is heavy.

Everything else I"m mostly meh.

one of his best

they are supposed to be stupid thats his appeal

SONIC GAIL 08.11.2010 09:21 AM

I really liked it. Lots of great gore and scary situations. It was a bit different than the horror movies have been. I jumped alot. I did not like the ending. It was too over the top.

I did notice a ton of political references and references to society. You have the fear of our own government poisoning us and lying to us. You have the soldier who doesnt know what the fuck is goin on. He just knows what he was commamded to do. The classic struggle of a soldier and how he has been viewed since the 60's. Then you pull in the fear of the country and rural areas which is really intriging for me for obvious reasons. Lots of movies play up on this lately. Are city people really scared of the country??? have we moved that far from our natural state that we are frightened by nature? The hunters gone gun crazy and hunting thier neighbors obviously this ties in with the current Pro gun discussions and fears that arise from those who oppose guns. Its like thier worst nightmare come true. Thats just what I noyiced

noisereductions 08.11.2010 09:39 AM

SG -- now see the original and tell me which is better.

SONIC GAIL 08.11.2010 09:47 AM

OK i will rent it. I was curious anyway. Typically the originals are better, but the gore man it was so gnarly. I actually cringed up in my covers

noisereductions 08.11.2010 09:48 AM

hahaha dig. I just feel too many remakes are nothing but less story, extra gore now.
