You know, I could quite easily be mistaken for a gay from my recent posts...

I'm working hard at making that happen, honey bunny.........

i was a bit pissed off at the last diamanda galas tour to aus, to me lighting adds alot to the music and creates a more emersive environment, she played in our town hall and they had the wrong PA for the occasion and about 12 par64 cans with a red wash, a blue wash and a green wash. except for her performance the show was disappointing and could have been done much better. but being a capital city of about 1 million people there are some people that aren't up to scratch on lighting design for touring acts. the mix was good but the PA was not great. she did a killer version of cash's twenty five minutes to go though....i just wish she played at the major arts centre where i worked then the lighting would have been better and so would have the PA.

ironic that the doors should be maligned and haino championed, the doors are one of haino's favourite bands.

Fela Kuti: right all along

I think The Streets qualifies for this. Mike Skinner seems to have nothing at all to Rap about other than his problems with drugs and relationships, and his lyrics aren't very strong as well.

and why is radiohead doing things for the wrong reasons? what are those wrong reasons they're doing things for? and the way they look? do they have a super processed image?

now, so does sonic youth look wrong and do it for the wrong reasons? i guess, by most of the standards carried by people here, sonic youth belong to that category.

I guess part of the appeal of Eddie Vedder for me lies in the hope that even John Denver can rock out.

Agree with the Eddie Vedder bit.As far as Radiohead go,i put them on that list because they are a blatant example of white caucasian rock with a deep sense of guilt for not been ''innovative'' enough. My template for such a bold statement would have to be traced back to a very interesting interview i read ages ago with Asian Dub Foundation on an issue of the Wire magazine. On it,one of the guys in the band rightly points out the fundamental differences between the attitude towards music between ethnic minorities and white people in the uk.What struck me as being totally intelligent of this guy is how he states that ethnic minorities generally go for more technologically enhanced music because of the fact that the nostalgia generally attached to guitars is one for a past that was good only for the white oppressors of this earth, while the embracing of the latest technology in music making is generally more widespread in the black community because the future is the only thing to be longing for.Radiohead are one of those bands(and i want to point out that i am expressing my opinion within the loose parameters of generalization) that suffer from this ''white middle class boy with guilt syndrome'' that only complicates things further for genuine innovators(regardless of colour, sexuality or faith) out there.

I read somewhere that Thom Yorke bought the entire back catalouge of WARP records immediately after wrapping up touring for OK Computer. That was back in about 1998? He's got this fetish for electronic music it seems to me... And his zolo album's coming out, The Eraser...

I'm going to have to disagree with you there.

I remember that interview, he made another very good point about modern improv being the antithesis of what it originally stood for... I think he misses part of the point, but I agree with the sentiment. I agree with the Radiohead thing, I like them, but I can't stand them being crowned as innovators par excellance. They are an above average pop group to me (seeing as they still use very, very pop structures), they certainly don't deserve all the accolades thrown at them (and I could argue the same for SY).

There are worse bands for white guilt though, The Clash being foremost to my mind.

It's a shame I don't really like ADF's music, they give one of the best interviews of any band...
