rr is a catchy album. not a serious deep meaning one, but some songs are superb!
lets face it. you just are bunch of cocky wankers that cant appriciate some good quality pop rock songs!

it's hard to get into something when it sits on a shelf gathering dust dude. nevermind, you don't want to like this album, you've got a very firm opinion on it that won't ever budge. well done.

Man, I have no clue what you're talking about. This is what I said:

So?

Rather Ripped Rulez!

Rather Ripped and Dirty are my favorite SY records, followed by A Thousand Leaves and Experimental Jet Set.

Do it, please, I'll try to understand this time.

[Sandbag] 01.25.2009 01:53 PM

fine..

i compared sonic youths 'rather ripped' to radioheads 'in rainbows' saying that both albums were -to me- a more 'friendly'..(pop if you want) approach to their music... and that in both cases those albums do not represent what *i* love/like/dig about both bands.. which is some degree of experimentation, noises, weird structures, etc...

and that was about it... :o

joe11121 01.25.2009 08:58 PM

^ good analysis.

Ripped had a few good tunes,

And I Really enjoyed In Rainbows.

ah, ok. I understand. No problem.
Even if I've never listened to In Rainbows.

Man, I think "In Rainbows" nearly unlistenable.

This thread also gives a very little answers to me why people hates Rather Ripped. Some say itīs not experimental enough, some that it is mediocre. Others just say they donīt like it.

Will SY's first attempt to desperately try to appeal to people who normally wouldn't be willing to spend dollar on their records do? And the resulting mess, of course.

kinn 12.06.2010 02:49 PM

first?

I donīt believe making money has been the goal, when Sonic Youth was making Rather Ripped. If they ever wanted success (I mean lots of money etc) they would have make another Dirty after Dirty. Instead they made experimental that is totally uncommercial album. Why they would have wanted success in the end of their Geffen contract? And after Rather Ripped they released totally uncommercial compilation. I truly believe that there still isnīt any commercial planning in Sonic Youth, they are making what theyīre making only because they wanted to do it and like it.
