These things can only work in isolated communities of like-minded people. on a large scale, they are impossible.
The strong dominate the weak, the clever dominate the strong. That's pretty much how it works, no matter how "sophisticated" we think we are becoming.
People suck.

Did they teach you that in college?

Savage Clone 09.27.2006 04:41 PM

I was a fucking English major. And I dropped out in my senior year.
I had a strong interest in anarchism at one time, that's all.
Extracurricular reading.

And I was supposed to know that?

Well, I have been known to post the occasional longwinded diatribe about these things...
My comments about human nature come from a combination of reading and living in a society in which I see the idiocy and depravity of the human race thrust in my face on a daily basis. I think it's the logical conclusion one comes to after a while.

Oh, I'm sorry, I've had a few beers. I'm in the Communist Party's youth organisation, and we figth against things that are happening on a more local basis, but we're trying to get people with us. We're trying first of all to make a change here in Norway.

Just now we're figthing against a "pimp-and-hoe" party that is beeing held at a local club in my hometown. It's a party where people are dressing up like pimps and whores, it's totally glamorising the sex-industry, and I mean that's wrong.

It's called an irreverent sense of humor.
What you are doing is at best promoting a lack of humor and at worst it is thought control.
There are much more important issues.

Cantankerous 09.27.2006 04:51 PM

I'm sorry I'm not up to your standards. I'll try harder next time.

Savage Clone 09.27.2006 04:52 PM

I was talking to Demon Box.
Edited accordingly.

Cantankerous 09.27.2006 04:52 PM

I still think you've just got your panties in a bunch over the Chris Frantz thing.

Savage Clone 09.27.2006 04:53 PM

Underwear is for suckers.

Cantankerous 09.27.2006 04:54 PM

Hayden will be pleased to hear this statement coming from you / I couldn't agree more.

fighting to stop the party happening?
i like to have the freedom to go to whatever party i want to. id steer well clear of a pimp and ho party, but id defend the right for people to go to it if they wanted.
id rather live amongst people who didnt want to go to such things, not amongst people who didnt have the right to because others disagree with it.
you are messing with peoples freedom to do as they wish.
if someone messed with your freedom to join the communist party, i think you would be a bit pissed off.

Пятхъдесят Шест 09.27.2006 04:55 PM

Catankerous, did you ever get that Communist Party shirt??

Cantankerous 09.27.2006 05:01 PM

No, it's not funny. I don't think it's thought control either, we just say what we mean. And yeah, it's more important issues, but this is happening in my local area, and it's happening now, and I'm not tunring the blind eye to this crap. I mean, It's a students club, and they should know more than this. I don't think trafficking is fun, and this party is just making it more social acceptable. I don't wanna be a fucking pimp.

You don't have to be a pimp.
You don't have to go to the party.
Being a prostitute or a pimp is never going to be considered "acceptable" by mainstream society and you know it, party or no party.
It's called free expression. You know, the cornerstone of a free society?
People can say or dress however they want.
Just because something is stupid or objectionable to your personal point of view doesn't mean it needs to be suppressed.
This applies to White Power groups, Anti-Semitic groups, religious separatists, people who don't want their children marrying outside their religion, all of it.
People should be free to hold and express their beliefs, no matter how inane, stupid or crazy they seem to others. Free speech cuts many ways, and you need to take the hit sometimes for this principle, which is extremely important.

Political correctness IS thought control, and it is easily as dangerous as any tool of oppression.

DemonBox 09.27.2006 05:16 PM

So, why is it social acceptable for kids at my school to call themselfs pimps, and singing along to 50 cents P.I.M.P. lyrics? It's just fucked up.

Well, the word "pimp" has taken on a new meaning in current slang, for better or worse.
Is the old term "Lady-Killer" better or worse?
How about "Man Eater" for the ladies?
"Fucked up" it may be, but no one should suppress ideas or expression, fucked up or not.
I'm sure you realize "Fucked up" is in the eye of the beholder.
