That's nutso. Some people just have too much disposable income....and even if I had 200 quid burning a hole in my pocket, there would be a million better things to squander it on.

Ghostchase 04.22.2012 03:32 PM

Nice snag on the poster!

blunderbuss 04.23.2012 12:31 AM

Bloody hell! I gave my one of those away years ago. (I hope that's not it.)

"SONIC YOUTH promotional Goo poster"

Isn't this just the "poster" that came with the Goo CD?

gkmachine 10.24.2012 05:35 AM

So I have a signed copy of Bad Moon Rising, a classic of course, which I'm sadly selling. I'm in dire need of cash, and the CD will do me which I also now have.
I've listed it on e-bay and I don't think I can post URLs here on the forum so either PM me or have a look for it on ebay yourself. I'm in the UK so it may not show up on all regions.
The LP is in almost good as new condition, vinyl is Nr Mint, sleeve excellent mainly due to a slight bend (but not a full blown crease) in top right front corner of sleeve. Comes with the insert too.
Cheers
Gordon

Blue Human 10.24.2012 08:00 AM

Whilst not directly a Sonic Youth item, my Musima Eterna Deluxe 25 (Jazzmaster copy) is currently listed on ebay UK (same era model as the SY Eterna - as played by Kim on ATL & Thurston on Ono Soul et al). I've sent the specs through to Chris Lawrence in the hope it sheds some light on the SY model. Not really trying to drum up business here, just thought the specs alone may well be of interest to those interested in SY Guitars.

Chris Lawrence 10.25.2012 04:12 AM

For your help, I'll help you drum up business: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Musima-Ete...item2ec2c564dd

I believe you need 10 posts before you can include a link, which is why the first 2 didn't show up. :) That is a COOL guitar!!

I'll help you too! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SONIC-YOUT.../271087849904?

I'm curious when it was signed!

Not on Ebay yet. Don't know how to sell something on (American) Ebay because i'm from Holland and for some reason it doesn't allow me to sell anything on foreign Ebay sites.

Anyone interested in this limited copy?

Have you tried logging in on ebay.com (instead of ebay.nl) directly?

Not me - its title is quite accurate except for the "TV" part. ;-) This and SYR5 are two of my least favorite SY(-related) releases.

By the way, it's not that rare or expensive:
http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=27013&sort=price%2Casc&format=Vinyl
Except that it's only ~8 minutes of "music".

I'm curious when it was signed!

Hey Chris, thanks for putting up the link :)
As for the signing...I have actually no idea.....I got this album in a second hand store funnily enough. There was only ever one signing here in Glasgow and that was in Nov 1988 (I think) and it was jam-packed. I was there but never got anything signed. However, I was speaking to Dep, who runs Monorail Records here in Glasgow and he said he was also there and also has a signed copy of Bad Moon Rising....so maybe signed BMRs are not to rare at all!!
Anyway, I digress, my copy, is so messily scrawled on that I can't actually identify whose signature is whose except for Lee's which incoroprates the infinity symbol. The rest is anyone's guess unless you know their styles. The odd thing is that one looks like B+B which makes you think Bob Bert....but I think he only ever played with them in 1984....but I may be mis-reading it.
If anyone can identify those signatures let me know please. Thanks again

gkmachine 10.26.2012 10:31 AM

Hi Chris,
Thanks for that....much appreciated.
I have no idea when that album was signed....I got it on discogs or ebay a few years ago....the seller was pretty new and made only a brief mention of it being signed (I think he thought the pen on the sleeve might devalue it like it was defaced!!!).
There was only ever one signing here in Glasgow where I'm from and that was in Rat Records during Daydream Nation tour. I was speaking to someone else about it yesterday - Dep, who runs Monorail records - and he said he also got a copy of BMR signed, along with about 500 other people....so maybe not as rare as I'd like! ;)
I found a forum that also makes mention of the 'memorable' signing by SY in Rat. I remember being around at that time and some of my friends got their copies signed but I never was quick enough to think about bringing LPs I'd already bought (and not having enough cash to buy another album). At that time I did have a copy of BMR...but I sold that long, long ago, maybe 20 years ago when short of cash.
But back to this copy. It's confusing because I can't make out whose signature is whose, other than Lee Ranaldo's. They're pretty illegible. There's one that looks a bit like B+B, which makes me think Bob Bert...but I'm not even sure of that. I'm not familiar with how their signatures look. If anyone can look at the photo of the back and identify any of them that would be great.....
...anyway...thanks again. Gordon
As for my copy, well, I find it quite confusing. Firstly, the signatures are quite messy

crazy right? I got my copy of a few years back -- did I get mine from you? I'm pretty sure I got it from rappard actually. But insane how it's shot up in price so much.

Don't think so - the image doesn't ring a bell, and I don't collect DVDs anyway.

Yeah, it was a trade for your copy of (I think) Sonic Mania Of Brother. I'm surprised no one has bid on Onsoku Seinen yet. I only ever saw one copy in two years of regular record shopping in Tokyo. I guess they're still being stashed by sonic otaku :-)

right right right! And you sent me some nice Japanese salty candy as well. :)

I forgot about that. Yeah Sonic Mania I found just stumbledupon at a record store in Boston when I was about 18. Feels like around that time I couldn't go to used shops without finding a handful of SY boots. This was before Chris L had put up the discography here, so every one I found seemed like something I should pick up because it was a new discovery to me. I ended up selling all of them since I believe, as I'm not a fan of bootlegs these days other than 'official bootlegs' (which in my head... isn't a bootleg so much as a live album but wtf do I know) /ramble.

just curious,if the sound quality is good, why wouldn't you want that? Most vinyl bootlegs I've gotten are usually not good. Bought and sold some dreadful recent Stooges shows thatwere put to vinyl.

it's more a matter of time. I don't have time to listen to thousands of records anymore. So if I listen to a live one, I guess I'd just rather get more comfy with an official live album as it means it's a show the band wants me to hear. One they're proud of or whatever.

Have been trying to get a Green Beck/SY 7". Excitedly, I discover one, only to be disappointed -- there is something mysterious. It has no number. . . just 'HC' where the number should be. Does anyone know what the 'HC' is?

Hardcore for sure! But. . .

No idea. The seller's been trying to sell that same copy on Discogs for a while now though.
